Hi Pedro I enjoy your videos very much, keep up the good work! I have a question for you, I'm interested in audio video recording my practice sessions. I have an ipad and iPhone and I also bought a mic to plugin. The thing is that the mic is not picking up the sound from the horn or the backing tracks. Do I need an app or another electronic device to record? I would appreciate if you can make up a list of all gadgets and apps needed for audio video recording. Thanks a lot! Just in case it matters I play sax, sop, alto, tenor and clarinet.

Hey, ur lessons are great. I was wondering what tuner app you were using and what you would recommend to develop the ability to play intervals in tune when playing alone without anything to refer to for tuning. Thanks!
@musicbypedro
@musicbypedro 8 жыл бұрын
I was using the tuner feature from my music DAW Logic Pro X. You can't really work on intonation without the help of a tuner. Once you practice enough you'll start developing a good sense of pitch. You'll also start knowing how in tune your instrument really in so intervals won't be a thing you'll really have to work on. Best of luck! :)

I have a guitar tuner and I also downloaded on my phone a tuner for saxophone "soundcorset tuner and master saxophone" But if I play a B or A or G the tuner shows another key not the note I am playing. I see by how you tuned a saxophone you just want to get it in the middle I am a just starting out to play sax almost one year and I am working on my scales now. How come also when doing the scales I go from a low b to a b flat to a c the key I press does not do anything and the note sound the same as a b flat or is it from low C to b flat but it is in the bottom first four or five notes I get up to the high C with the octave key but the first four or five notes the four to five sound the same. Why? Thanks Pete

Butter Milk, I was exactly like you while ago. Now I have one alto and two tenor saxophone and a flute while my guitar collection is collecting dust. There is something addictive and meditative about the wind instrument that I can’t find in any other instrument. Give it a try you won’t regret it. You don’t need to spent thousands of dollars. Chinese made saxophone came a long way and you can find lots of good quality Chinese saxophone on the market with a decent price.

Hi Pedro, why is it when you are playing a B the tuner is showing it as a D, and F# as an A? I am new to sax and just bought a tuner and am having this same issue.. Hopefully you can help me understand.. Thx
@franciscogarcia4244
@franciscogarcia4244 5 жыл бұрын
mark yakubovsky It’s called concert pitch.The Alto Sax is what we call a transposing instrument,so if you play a D on alto sax,it won’t sound a D if you were to like play it on a flute.The tuner is reading the note in concert pitch,so if you have your tuner to 440 htz,and it tell you your note is in tune,then you’re in tune

Can you use diaphramic vibrato like on flute on the sax? Ive heard mixed things. I use jaw vibrato and diaphramic vibrato on clarinet and I find that its useful for different things. Im curious of your thoughts Pedro. Great video by the way!!

Hi pedro I am learner of saxophone I just want to tune my sax on android when I play g the tuner shows A# I tried to adjust the mouthpiece little falter or pulled upwards but didn't get correct what the matter
@ryanmarkwart7119
@ryanmarkwart7119 5 жыл бұрын
So the Alto Sax is a "transposing instrument," which means the 'written pitch' vs the 'sounding pitch' isn't the same. The Alto Sax is in E-flat. The piano is in C. An F on piano is a D on alto. Piano C = Alto A. Piano G-flat = Alto E-flat. ETC... When transposing, I like to this of the Alto Sax as a "minor piano" (3 semi-tones lower). It may be confusing but that's life for the Alto. In conclusion, YES you're supposed to see A# on the tuner when playing a G.

That sure is a sexy lacquer. I play all kinds of instruments, and recently picked up my Alto sax again. I'm considering getting a Tenor now as well. But 3k is a bit steep for me. Any other not so ordinary Tenors you can recommend? My alto for example is silver plated. I really don't like the standard gold.
@musicbypedro
@musicbypedro 8 жыл бұрын
Well, if you're looking to stay under 3K and get a tenor, then I'm gonna say a student model horn would be more towards that price range. From there you can pick the colors or finish you'd like.

This dude seriously recommending to do a vibrato with lip movement? "releasing the pressure from your lower lip" WRONG! dont ruin beginners embochures dude. Teach the air stream vibrato first, which is done with diaphragm pressure, and then the proper vibrato, which is done with subtle mouth cavity and tongue movement, like in overtone exercises. Kids, never ever use your lips for vibrato!
@musicbypedro
@musicbypedro 5 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching the video. While you might think I'm wrong, there are actually two school of vibrato when it comes to saxophone. The Jawvibrato is one and the diaphragm is a second option. Diaphragm vibrato is most commonly used on flute, but lots of trained teachers assure that the best and easiest to control vibrato is with the jaw. Thanks! :)
