Fun video and lots of unanswered questions about similar ideas. I'll try to summarize a few answers. The pebbles act like a false bottom so that the water does not contact the soil and keep the soil too wet. The charcoal helps purify the water so you don't get stagnant water smell or other impurities. However, in general, you should not be watering so much that you have a high level of water up to level of the charcoal anyway, sitting in the jar. But because it is an open jar, the water will also evaporate, so don't panic if you do have a little more water than you expected. The moss is optional but it helps retain moisture the in jar. Additionally, the video owner said these were made for an event so having extra layers and colors makes it pretty, too. The soil is that part that you will want to make sure is moist for the plant. Because of no drain holes, this is not like a typical succulent plant container that you might say, water thoroughly when dry and leave it alone for a while. Instead, you may want to water in such a way that you can see the soil is getting wet/moist, and then leave it for a while. Depending on the size of your, your amount of soil, etc it will be hard to give an amount of watering you need to do for your plant and your jar, as well as to say how long in between waterings. Just make observations and keep the plant looking healthy.

Very cute. How much water do they take and how often? Also, how long will they live in this size container? Thank you
@succilife2185 жыл бұрын
yvettrae It’s really contingent on the succulent you’re using.Since the container is smaller and doesn’t have a drainage hole I would recommend either adding just a little water when the top soil is dry. Or try removing the succulent from the container and submerging the roots. These were made specifically for an event so their purpose was primarily for decoration or as gifts. It’s not a long term potting solution for maintaining a healthy succulent plant. I have some that outgrew the pot in a few months and others that have been in there for two years.

J H i think so, because of the false bottom, the gravel at the base of the jar.
@lovebug93864 жыл бұрын
If she had made a false bottom with some mesh it would act as drainage layer.
@pershop49504 жыл бұрын
@@lovebug9386 Even without the mesh, she still has a false bottom already with the pebbles. just don't water too much so that the water comes up to the level of the soil, and the soil wouldn't be over-saturated leading to too wet conditions.

Shahnaz Sheriff it is real moss it just a colored variety used primarily for decoration but it still acts like traditional moss. I didn’t go to into depth about maintenance since these are primary for decoration and will grow out of their small containers within a few months. Since there isn’t a hole to drain the water and the containers are small, I would recommend either taking out the succulent and submerging the roots in water and repotting or just adding a little water when the top soil is dry.

@servicedogchopper76136 жыл бұрын
Small forest dweller Actually there is a real job the moss is doing. It helps the soil to not mix with the carcoil and most importantly the pea gravel on the bottom. If they mix there is no longer adiquate drainage. There is currently a place for water to eccape the soil completely.. If the soil creaps down between the pea gravel that is no longer the case. Many use mesh non-metal synthetic window screen which do that same job (you will see that a lot) but moss does it as well and it is indeed prettier. I just wamted to advise it actually has a job and is placed where it is for a reason. Water going down will pass through the carcoil and then again on the way back up through evaporation. It is also important to not allow your roots to dig down into either the charcoil or the pea gravel or whatever your drianage is. That is another job it does. Pretty, yes. but has a job and is placed where it is for a reason.
