Welcome to my KZbin video: HOW TO RECORD A GREAT BASS SOUND USING 2 CHANNELS OF TECH 21
This video is a mini masterclass video that will teach you how I record a great bass sound using 2 channels.
Recording this way is imperative if you want to have great lowed and distorted high-end bass sounds when recording.
For these examples I will be using my Spector classic euro, a Tech 21 VT Bass DI and a Geddy Lee YYZ Pedal a perfect combination for recording direct or playing live with no amps, I love Tech 21 stuff.

This is why the ged-2112(rackmount) - gd-2112 (Pedal) preamp are great as they both have deep and drive channels you can run independent or mixed and you can blend the 2.

How would you use this for a live setting, like on a pedal board? How would you do the post DI mix?

depends what kind of live ,1 if you have a sound man he will usually run a di signal and then you take the thru from the di back to your amp as a monitor so you can hear yourself , he could also be micing or taking the line out of that amp for the dirty sound so the di becomes the clean sound and your amp is the grind and the dirt. In the case of using the sansamp vt bass di without an amp live you could just pretend its your actual amp if you put it at the end of your pedal board and run all your pedals into it then you will still need a di box to get a separate clean as if your running effects into the input of the sansamp vt bass that same sound will come out of the vt bass parallel output defying the purpose of 2 sounds but if you use just the vt bass di and set it on a touch sensitive or full grind just a clean signal will come from the parallel out and the distorted sound will come out of the output of the pedal , hope that helps thanks for dropping by you rock M

I love those two pedals because they allow you to do that out of the box. On the VT you can blend between the clean and sansamp emulation. The YYZ is dual channel (deep + drive), the "deep" channel is clean-ish and has a preset EQ that emphasizes the low end.

So does the parallel out on the Sansamp VT act as the “Thru” on a DI Box?

exactly !!! using it that way is like a di box with eq , drive, gain , speaker simulation and a few other bells on the mini switches ...thanks for dropping by have an awesome evening you rock M
