Damn these are cool, never seen them before today. I was poking around amazon and ran across some tamiya stuff and saw these cars with rollers on the outside and thought man those gotta be something like a slot car racer. Then I found this vid, awesome!

Remember what I was talking about with the one way wheel sets? I have another idea in relation to them. Try with one way wheels on front only, regular wheels on the back, then use slightly smaller tires on the front, for example 25mm front and 26mm rear. If I'm not mistaken this will give you AWD, meaning initial acceleration it should bite like normal then when up to speed, the front wheels will be running on diff only with all the motor power transferred directly to the rear wheels.
@Z3NBluster6 жыл бұрын
Could you do me a favor and weigh the medium diameter one-way wheels you're talking about. Do you have a scale that is able to measure .01grams? We don't normally see these. I don't think DXN carries them because they don't sell. I have a feeling that the extra weight these wheels have actually counteract the benefits that they may give.
@foxracerdrew6 жыл бұрын
Sure, I'll get back to you later with pics, but I did try weighing the large one ways once with 3 spoke, overall difference was 3g for a set of 4 wheels (0.75g difference per wheel)
@Z3NBluster6 жыл бұрын
That depends which set of large diameter wheels you're comparing them to. Three spokes are less popular for technical as they tend to break often. Also did you weigh your one-way wheels after they've been glued together? It would be pretty embarassing if these wheels broke apart after a few jumps.

Looks like the one-ways are around .5-.6g heavier than their normal counterparts. If a full set is slotted in that's around 2-2.4 grams heavier. If only a pair is added the car will be 1-1.2 grams heavier. Have you tried these on jumps or any big impacts? If these come apart during a race, that's it. I just think there's gotta be a reason why you don't see the Japan Cup winners use these wheels. I haven't seen a Japan Cup winning setup with these since the 90s when the tracks had no jumps.

Hey man, are there any upgradability differences between closed wheel (designs like the Toyota TS050) and open wheel (no wheel fender/cover)? I plan on buying my first Tamiya and I'm looking at some MA chassis models. I'm deciding between the Toyota TS050 and the DCR-01. I was thinking that maybe some wheels would need to stick out of closed wheel chassis due to the wheels hitting the fenders. I'm a beginner so I don't have much of an idea about these stuff.

The open wheel bodies that you're referring to are lighter. It boils down to that. Also, please avoid asking your question twice on two different videos. I don't have alot of free time to read the same question twice.

Of course the MA chassis is going to be hindered in this setup! The whole point of the MA chassis is it’s advantage in term of Center of gravity (COG). It was never the lightest chassis but what it had was all of the weight close to the center... Therefore, it doesn’t need as much weight / correcting dampers. Because of the more balanced chassis, the MA would require a different set of dampers that is minimal. Then the MA chassis will be allowed to show its full potential when not being sandbagged by its “tuner”
@Z3NBluster5 жыл бұрын
This was filmed early in the day while there were less customers at DXN. I only had 30 minutes to work on this video including filming and quick tests of the car. Since DXN is a shop, they also have other customers to attend to. I didn't want to intrude and hold up the other customers for much longer than than 30 minutes. What you see here in this video is a product of a quick comparison. If I had the luxury of having a solo session with the DXN track. MA would have won with much better tuning.

Tell me the best MA setup for this basic tuned class. I wonder, MA was the worst chassis overall. heavy, slow and unstable when landing. The only strength that MA have is only its torque. I am an MA user and i wonder how people out there show a full potential of MA

For tuned class. It's disadvantaged. It's heavy, the transmission is underwhelming, and you're forced to have a wide offset wheel setup because of how wide the chassis is. Actually, I also do not recommend it for Open Class unless you're a PRO.

@@Z3NBluster How can I have a good transmission? I also use 3.5:1 gear ratio. Thank you for replying. 🤙🏼
@Z3NBluster6 жыл бұрын
It's hard to explain just by using text. Examine your gears and shafts. If you have bent shafts, it will cause a loss of power in transmission. If you have gears that are loose or are too tight when they mesh with other gears, that will cause another loss of power in transmission. Think of it as "tolerances" inside of an Engine. If there are parts that grind, are too loose, or are too tight. They will adversely affect the performance of your car's transmission.
