Was great for You and Brad to bring all of us along for the road trip and swap meet! I had an neighbor, when I was little, that was like my adopted Grandpa name John Priest in Lorain ,Ohio. He was a WW1 veteran. He had a Model A truck cut down and made to pull a plow, a disc and what we called a lump crusher.(Float). If you helped him, you got a turn riding with "Gramps" on the bellowing Mode A. Those days were the greatest! I miss those days! Thanks Merlin!

Well, sorry I missed you Merlin. I was born and raised in Long Beach California and my parent's house was about one mile from Veteran's Stadium. I was both a buyer and seller at many of the swap meets there. I was able to see new Douglas airplanes being built, tested, and flown from the Long Beach airport. I also was able to watch the Model T Hill Climb on Signal Hill several times. I lived in Lakewood [which is just on the other side of Carson Street from Long Beach] for 33 years. [about two miles from the Stadium] But we moved to Oregon about eleven years ago. My last sell at Veteran's Stadium was my 1959 Ford Galaxie, that I wasn't going to take to Oregon with me, to a man who bought old cars for resale in Austrailia.

OMG that pinto brought back a memory I forgot I had, my uncle told me of a friend who he first met at the Traverse City swap meet, the dude had a ford pinto station wagon with a Toranado front drive in the rear and a 350 chevy in it it was welded so it didn't steer man that thing would scoot, the same guy shortened a ford econoline van to 6 feet and put the same set up in that with wheely bars and drove it in the Cherry Festival parade, then he had olds station wagon and put a Cadillac eldorado front end in the rear with a 454 V-8 with oval port heads and he raced that in the drag races, something went wrong in his second race, the back end came loose and steered to the left and he drove across the center and crashed into his opponent and was disqualified for circle track racing at a dragstrip. What a story but that guy must have collected every toranado and eldorado in michigan, ohio and indiana, he had a huge junk yard and that was all he had.

After getting hung up in traffic once during the daytime in Los Angeles (I was in 5 mph pace) I looked at my odometer and took note of the mileage. I looked at it later when the pace broke and we all started speeding up......I had driven 85 miles!!!!! I couldn't freaking believe it. After that I always went into the city during the middle of the night. I have hauled a ton of loads in and out of the LA area. Long Beach, Paramount, Rancho Cucamonga. I could go on and on. My first time ever in that Big Ass City, I was team driving with my Uncle David. I had at this point already been through Chicago, New York City, Jacksonville Florida, Bangor Maine. I was driving and when I rolled down off that hill on I-15 down into Ontario. It was in the middle of the night. And for this Farm kid from Kansas, it was like I was in a Peter Pan movie or something. It was as if I was in Never never land. I was in a different world for sure! I have never been to a swap meet yet in my life. A buddy keeps trying to get me to go to one in Denver Colorado but I always to busy to make it work out. Someday I will go. 💯👍

You know I should drive semi truck. From Northern California to Southern california. Twice a week. I was there at 95. The morning of the earthquake. Load it with lumber. Now you talk about traffic. Sometimes. It took us 223 hours to go five miles. From seven lanes down the one. Anybody broke down. Traffic never bothered me. I was born in southern cal. Back he didn't have all freeways. But I don't , at the age of five , the northern california. When they still do grew hops. I'd go to back to northern california and heartbeat. I have three kids there one in southern california. Things have changed. Now I am the older. Now live in missouri .. Misery I call it. You can have your desert. I worked in it for years. Palm Springs, Indio. Coachella el central. Hundred and twenty five degrees back in the seventies. Moving buildings jack and buildings in the sand. Take care.✋🏽😎🪶
