From the beginning of 2021 to May 2022, I've been painting and sketching in a mini Hahnemuhle watercolour sketchbook. I've used this little book to experiment with different styles, build my watercolour and sketching skills, and to document some of the places I've traveled to or seen in the past year. This week, I wanted to film a detailed tour it - from some of my worst paintings to my favourite painting, here's what's in my travel sketchbook - hope you enjoy!

Thank you for showing your hits in this book. I appreciate seeing the pieces you are not as proud of. It helps normalize the process as we all grow.

I had to smile when you turned the page and there was a tree! I just did two trees in my small sketchbook yesterday. I'm trying to prepare to expand my art to outdoor nature journaling or even urban sketching, and felt the need to try learning trees. We have slot in common in the way we practice skills. Great video and wonderful sketchbook.

I really enjoyed the architectural sketches. And I totally love your style of leaving the first page blank. There is so much pressure around it. Why do we do that to ourselves? :)

Thanks Silvia! I suppose it is just the inner perfectionist in us all that makes us fret over the smallest of things - and it is surprising that such a simple thing of skipping the first page can make all the difference at the start! 😊

Love the colored tree ! and the houses too. Watercolors make everything look better too i think. I should try that on my bad sketching haha. I also love to see an actual sketchbook, not a ''perfect ultra skilled pro artists show off book thing' :p I have 2 or 3 emtpy ones, i can't really draw, and if i try, i use just a piece of paper to not ruin my sketchbook haha. But you show the real purpose of a sketchbook imo. Experiment, have fun, have 'bad' but also excellent drawings in it... Thx for that ! I feel the urge to draw everyday , but never really do. (started and stopped a loooot of times over the last 20y , but always gave up due lack of time, or some other excuses) thx for motivating me again.

I'm glad I could be some sort of motivation for you. Yes it's very hard to be okay with having bad drawings/paintings in a sketchbook (especially when the previous page may have your best painting yet on it). I always try and remind myself that every artist has horrible and ugly paintings in their sketchbooks. I was privileged enough to have the chance of going through some famous artists' original sketchbooks and scraps of paper a few years a go and a lot of those were just scribbles on paper, unfinished drawings, and just testing different mediums - it's important to remember that no one's perfect and also, you don't have to show your worse paintings to anyone but yourself if you don't want to :)

@@DrawingsFromAnna true. Thx, 😊. Also, if i looked back at some drawings i did, after a few months... Some are fairly good, even though i thought the worst of them at the moment.

Thankyouuuu!! I'm still playing with the idea of painting a larger version of the Folklore painting - I've got a big commission on at the moment, but maybe after that I'll have another crack at it! 😆

Some great sketches. I like the style that you are developing. I agree with you about the Sandy bay ? multiple houses sketch. I can easily see it being a part of a travel magazine. My favourite is the one that's your favourite too, the Jetty.

Thank you 🥰 yes, I totally agree, it would sit nicely in some type of arty travel magazine - you've actually just given me the idea that I should get in touch with a couple of smaller magazines to see if they maybe wanted to collaborate in some way, so thank you for the idea!! 😊
