Nintendo is using the smartest most brilliant marketing tactics that are singlehandedly rivitalizing the gaming market, drawing people back to old style games, to collecting, to caring about gaming. I absolutely love Nintendo and is a company I felt for since I was a child. Props to them and to this cute little piece of retro history that they're releasing.

I too was very disappointed with the distribution of NES Classic Minis too. They sold for $79.99 CAD here is Canada and if I knew they were taking Pre-orders I would have put some money down. This time around I wonder when the North American SNES mini will be out for Pre-orders because I will buy one no matter if they charge $100 CAD

Funny. About a month after the Switch was released my friends were trying to get a Switch. We randomly came across 3 Switch's that just came into Walmart so we bought them for ourselves. However! Sitting right next to them was 1 NES classic. We were was utterly shocked. So we bought that too. Been having lots of fun.

They're all amazing, must-own games - but only 21? At $80 this really should have had at least 30+. The omission of Chrono Trigger is baffling, but I can only guess that Nintendo didn't want to license any more stuff from Square to keep the price down. I would have added the following games: - TMNT: Turtles in Time - Aero Fighters (it's CO-OP!) / UN Squadron / Space Megaforce - Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest - Chrono Trigger / Breath of Fire II - NHL 94 / Mutant Hockey League / NBA Jam / Tecmo Super Bowl - Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (would have made way more sense than just Super Mario World; dat value) - Harvest Moon - Super Bomberman 2

So many people were left pissed, why Nintendo would do this all over again is beyond me. They can claim more stock for the SNES mini, I don't see it happen, just as many people, if not more, will be left pissed all over again, this can never end well for Nintendo's image in the eyes of most fans. I want to be excited, but I'm not, because I know how this will go down. My stores never even got any NES mini in stock, ever, as in, they were never even send any units. But when it comes to money, Johnny, I have to disagree, people keep saying "Doesn't Nintendo want money." But just because it was selling doesn't mean it was making that much of a profit, and that's most likely why it was limited.

That's Nintendo's fault if they didn't price out their own product correctly. They could've sold the NES classic for $150. People would be upset but people would still buy it. Also, if they didn't make any money on it then they wouldn't be doing another run with the SNES now. Though they did up the price to $80. Proving that no matter the price people will buy.

I am in England and was in CEX computer exchange shop and saw a NES mini second hand no box ( Maybe it had one but could not see it) and was on sale for £120.00. Piss takers. I couldn't get a preorder for SNES Mini in Game ... they sold out preorders within minutes. I have preordered and paid for mine at Shopto now.. I finally gave in and bought a new-in-box NES Classic from Craigslist a few weeks back. I paid just slightly more than double the retail price for it. I considered myself pretty lucky in that regard. I didn't like having to do that, but it's an item I wanted to own. And I don't have to justify every purchase I make. I grew up with Zelda and Metroid and that wonderful grey box with the blocky controller. I have to tell you, the joy I experienced while unboxing it when I got back home made it worth every penny. It sits right beside my monitor on my desk and it makes me happy every time I glance at it. As for the Super Nintendo Classic, I definitely want one. But I (unfortunately) grew up with a Genesis instead. I chose wrong. But that's how it goes. I'm not as attached to the SNES Classic as the NES Classic, but I definitely want one of these SNES Classics badly nonetheless. And I'm going to try my best to preorder one like everyone else on the planet. But I'm sure I'll end up having to use Craigslist again. And I'm too lazy to camp outside a store. You can't beat scalpers and bots.

Are NES mini's rare here in Europe to see in shops, as they seem to be in America/Canada? I wanted to get one when they first came out but of course scalpers ruined that. Today I was walking past one of my local trade in stores for phones and games and such, and the guy had a brand new NES classic in the front window, he wanted 215 euro for it though so I just walked away. Now seeing how Johnny has never seen one in the wild, I am having second thoughts. Plus on amazon they are more expensive also, I might head back down when I have some spare cash and try barter him down. I can't understand why Nintendo are not capitalizing on the demand for these, hopefully the stock up more classic SNES, plus is anyone else sad to not see Zombies Ate My Neighbours on the list? Same here, I have not been able to track down a NES Mini, missed the pre-order and at least down here in Tasmania it has never made it to the shelves anywhere. So luckily this time someone told me about the SNES mini and I managed to pre-order one before they sold out of pre-orders - I just don't get why they don't seem to want these to actually be on shelves. Even if it is never hacked like the NES Mini, the list of games on there will keep me happy for quite some time. Going to put it down at my holiday home (where I will actually get time to play it properly). I am worried about the 'we will make more' as they said that for the NES Mini too :(

i have a hypothesis regarding the nes classic: the control was made for the wii remote, thats why it is so short. They made a bunch if them, but never selled them (they show a picture once, but that's it). So, instead of let them rust, they came up with the nes to cut their losses.

Here in the UK scalpers already have their pre-orders on eBay for £200-300+... I was lucky enough to get an NES classic at RRP as I pre-ordered on amazon before most people even knew about it. We were pretty lucky over here in the UAE as the NES classic was pretty easy to get. Granted, it was retailing for the equivalent of $120 but at least we could get it. My local game store had a couple a month ago when I last went in there. Maybe I should pick one up if they still have them. The SNES classic looks awesome and because of that Nintendo will keep supplies low to make sure the frenzy surrounding it builds to unbareable levels. I want one but at the same time don't want to get suckered into the scramble for one by Nintendo's typically short stock levels. If I see one in the wild I'll probably pick it up.

Well they said that the NES Classic was really supposed to be around for the Holidays. I'm guessing they were intending to make the console in such limited supply because of that and maybe because they thought it wouldn't be such a hot item. Hopefully they figure out that there's a lot more people who are into this sort of thing and make a lot more of the SNES Classic and maybe re-release the NES Classic(?).

It's going to be in short supply. It's done on purpose. The NES classic was released then cut short to creat demand. Then the Switch was released..Now their releasing The Super NES classic and that will also be in short supply. To creat demand for their virtual store. That way when they announce the store/online service there will be all these ppl who bought it. Now interested in Nintendo again. And those who didn't manage to get one wanting a Switch to play all those games. It's very clearly planned.

ROFL, conspiracy theories. It was clear why they stop the production of NES classic, because they were about to produce the SNES classic. And they already say is a 2017 production product only, they dont have unlimited resources and they are struggling already with all the machines they have to manufacture, you know the ones that gives them the real money (Switch, 3DS/2DS family of systems) The classic edition is more a promotional material, they dont make a lot of money out of this. 80 bucks deal and thats it, you got the hardware with all the software.

Bittersweet sums it up perfectly - would love one, but no point in getting too excited when I don't trust that I'll be able to get one. UK pre-orders sold out in minutes on Amazon, while Game crashed, came back up and despite having one in my online trolley, I couldn't pre-order a SNES classic before sold out came up once more. Nintendo say they'll make more, but won't scalpers just snap them all up again? As a 40-year-old and someone who mostly plays sports games but loves retro, I din't have any interest in a Switch, so it'll be £79.99 that Nintendo won't get of me in 2017 if I fail to get a SNES classic. Indeed, not being able to obtain an NES classic has half put me off buying Nintendo products, so another disappointment would seal it.

Luckily, a friend told me that the UK store Argos had them on pre-order this morning, so I got in quick. They actually lasted for a few hours, possibly because you had to pay upfront. I'm not sure that Nintendo don't want to make money, but moreover they don't want to run the risk of having overstocks of anything. If you look at it from their point of view, they have sold every single unit of the NES Classic (apparently) and made a clear profit. From a business point of view, this is a massive success. From the point of view of the casual consumer, not so much. But at the same time, they clearly did fall short on supply and probably didn't realise the demand would be so high. Nintendo don't deal in credit, it's all money upfront. Their pre-orders do not fund the manufacture of their products and they don't provide retailers with sale-or-return orders. This is why it's possible for a pre-order to be sold out. The scalpers issue is obviously something that needs sorting, but I truly think they have no way of solving it. Brilliant video, as usual! I can't say about the rest of the world, but in Australia, they major retailers (EB Games and JB Hi-Fi had them up for many hours before finally selling out...and then today I wake up and they're back in stock again). Seems like a good sign, or at least a better sign than the NES Classic.

I have pre ordered one. Not sure about other countries but Australia EB games sells 1 per customer but you need to pay a $30 deposit. Looking forward for it my family was too poor to have SNES back in the day so its going to be fun experiencing mega man for the first time.

There's a few games I wish were included (Like Zombies ate my Neighbours), but yeah it's looking pretty sweet. Really hoping I'll manage to get one of these.

well to us retro collectors it is bitter sweet. we have most of these games already. so maybe to get that rare game its worth it. but personally I was a Sega fan and that was my diet in my younger years, to me this produces only passive interest to me. But to snes fans that don't have these games or those new to retro collecting, this is a God send!!!!

i wish places like target and kmart bigw in Australia would put the snes classic in there catalogs now saying coming soon so mums and dads have a chance of getting one not like what happen with the nes classic a week before it came out it was advertised and there was alot of people left mad and disappointed thinking they could just go into there store of choice on day one and pick one up
