A lot of my friends scoffed at me. Told me that I could easily make my own with a raspberry pi. It's a glorified emulater, why would you wait in line for 3 hours for that? Because my experience was exactly like yours. The line wait was the fun. We live in a world of instant gratification where nobody has to wait for anything to the point where people are unwilling to even bother. You want music? Stream it. You want to watch a movie? Stream it. You hungry? DoorDash it. All the while missing out on the minute interactions between other people and your environment. It's not just about the thing. It's about sharing a moment with other like minded human beings. It's Nintendo, and it's about fun.

I wish my experience was nice and dandy but i totally agree with you. I wished that i could have talked to another fan about some of the games included and wished games that didn't make the cut such as chrono trigger, killer instinct and mortal kombat 3 or ultimate. There were plenty more tittles but 20 out the 21 are pretty solid to start with.
@DigitalDirigibles7 жыл бұрын
Ya Chrono Trigger should be there for sure. I kinda wish it had DK2 diddy's kong quest as well, and super Mario world is great but give us Super Mario All Stars too.

emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Canoe The SNES Mini is, in every sense of the word, trash. It even works worse than most free SNES emulators. Neither waiting in line nor paying the money is worth it. I do get the sentiment of wanting to talk to like-minded people about games you enjoyed back in the day. But you won't get that nowadays; it was part of the Zeitgeist back then. Anyway that likes these games either enjoys them for himself nowadays, or seeks out community hubs on Discord or whatever to keep talking about their hobby. If you want to do it right, grab an original SNES unit and get a device called FXPAK Pro. It is more pricey, but the most authentic way to play these games, unless you want to play the games directly from the original cartridge. Plus, third-party support is sustained with the FXPAK Pro on real hardware, too. Like UltraNet, which allows for online multiplayer - even for games that initially never had a multiplayer mode to begin with. www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=28578.0 Or, "CrowdControl". More info here: krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=8276.0 I can only recommend that thing. If anyone thinks about getting one, you can buy one from here: krikzz.com/store/home/54-fxpak-pro.html The latest firmware update can always be downloaded from here: sd2snes.de/blog/ Certain games (Pilotwings, Super Mario Kart etc.) don't work out of the box, but can easily be fixed. More info on that here: sd2snes.de/blog/faq

I got really lucky but also kicked my own ass haha. I've never camped out for anything before but I was not going to be left out on this one, so I went to my local Best Buy last night at 9:30pm. I was the only one hanging out playing my Switch for hours. Eventually some people came and they were all super cool. The guy right behind me, held my spot, so I could warm up in my car, and take a small half hour nap. That was really awesome of him. Eventually at around 6am, there was a huge line, and I felt really excited that I was first. They let us in at 7 am and I got mine, came home, and fell asleep for a few hours. Glad I requested the day off now!

Well, I lived here in the US for one year and I'm leaving today, returning back to my home country. It was an amazing year and I'm kind of sad but happy at the same time because I made so many friends and good memories here but I really want to go back to my family and my house. And just in the middle of all this mixed emotions I managed to get my SNES classic this morning, in my ladt day here. This will be forever part of a great memory and everytime that I play one of those amazing nostalgic games I will remember this day. This means a lot to me.

I ended up getting 4. No I am not a reseller, but I picked up more to help family/friends. I had a Best Buy preorder that arrived on Thursday, which is the one I'm going to keep for personal use and went to WalMart at 4pm on Thursday and waited 8 hours till the system released. People in line were excited and it was a good turn out. I then went home, slept for 2 hours, and went back out to Target at 2:30 am until they opened up at 8. They had 53 units there, and WalMart only had 24, and then finally, I got home and noticed the military exchange had these on there and I ordered one from there. Great day for me! I love the Super Nintendo!

I have to give props to my wonderful mom for picking up an SNES Classic for me. I was on a cruise last week with my girlfriend, and I didn't have the chance to buy one in person. I thought I was going to miss out like I did with the NES Classic, but my mom got up to her local Target at 6:00am to wait in line for one. She actually said it was a fun experience despite having to show up two hours before the store opened. She was fifth in line, and she said everyone around her was having fun, talking video games, and was just being pleasant to be around. After 45 minutes of waiting, a Target employee came out and passed out vouchers to everyone in line which reserved one console per custom. This allowed everyone to go home and come back to pick up their console between 8:00-8:30am before the remaining consoles would be released to the public. Target had 8 left over after all the "ticketed" units were sold, so it wasn't a horrible stock level for that store. Anyways, I'm excited I got one, and I have to thank my mom for doing such an amazing thing for me. The SNES was my childhood, so I'm happy I'll get to relive a lot of these wonderful games in HD!

I did the March 3rd Switch line at ToysRUs and really enjoyed conversing with all 10 other people who made it in time for the initial release. For most of us it was all about getting to play Breath, but the SNES Classic is much more about all the roots that really still make retro gaming a huge past time and fill a lot of us with sweet memories. Glad you got one and had such a pleasure being in that line with so many like-minded souls. That energy is so important to us aging gamers. I am excited about getting an SNES classic sometime in the next month.

I had a great time getting my SNES mini. The lineup had about 30-40 people in it when I showed up at 6:30 am and everybody was really enthusiastic. I don't think anyone was there to re-sell it. Glad to hear that you had a good experience at Walmart. Here in Arizona, that experience is typical at Best Buy. Orderly line and simple ticket system helps eliminate anxiety over whether or not someone will rush ahead to buy one. With no worries over others standing in line, it really becomes a micro-community for those hours waiting. Lots of fun conversations. Reminiscing. Leaving the line to bring back coffee and hot chocolate for others in line. The local Best Buy had nearly 50 units for sale. When tickets were distributed 45 minutes before the store opened, everyone waiting on line received a ticket, and when the store opened there were still a dozen or so tickets available.

Wish my Walmart story was as good as this. I went to the 24 hour wal-mart in pittsburgh a few hours before midnight. The Robinson location. There were 47 people in line and they had 52 units. The manager came out and said they were gonna sell 2 per person. A lil over half the line was able to get one. Half the line was trying to convince the manager that thats not fair and there is enough if they only sell one per. He wouldn't budge and disappointed over 20 people. I'm never shopping at this location again. I wasn't insanely heartbroken or anything for me but I felt sorry for everyone else. I was in line to get my friend a unit since I had secured a online preorder prior.

Not sure, if you know this. The only problem with this console is that you have have to hit the reset button to go back to the home screen. I found a way around this problem, you can connect a wii classic controller and just press the home button to go back to the home screen. Now I just need extensions to be able to sit a few feet away from the tv.

Hey Johnny. I got one this morning as well. I got to Best Buy around 7:00am - my location wasn't doing a midnight release, but when I got there I was about 7th or 8th in line. It wasn't a couple of minutes later that this guy pulled up towards the line in his truck to talk to the guy next to me in line. He said that Target had 36 in stock and they were handing out tickets. So without hesitation I got in my car and drove across the parking lot to Target, got my ticket. It was also really orderly, not 1 problem. They did run out of tickets not too long after I got mine, it seems the entire Best Buy line migrated to Target, lol. Most people in my line seemed interested in scalping, they were talking about how excited they were that it was going for 180 dollars - they had no love or nostalgia for it. But, I got it and it's awesome. Big fan of the show.

I waited at a Best Buy in NH at 5am and was #4 in que. I got my ticket and was able to then que up at Toys R Us for a second one. The Toys R Us que was awesome: one fella bought doughnuts for everyone and the staff was there taking photos and asking us about Nintendo, the SNES, and everyone's first console memories. I missed that. After working in the industry for a decade and quitting in disgust in 2014, I had forgotten about how much joy games bring to gamers and fans. There was even a father, mother, and son (~8 years old or so) that queued up together to get the SNES Classic - a family that games together, stays together.

I'm from Sweden and I pre-ordered mine online, from just a common Swedish electronics retailer, and I was able to get my SNES Classic with no hassle whatsoever. I was afraid this would turn into yet another NES Classic experience (I was unable to get my hands on that one), so I was really thrilled that things went so smoothly this time! I love the SNES Classic! The design on it is just gorgeous (especially the PAL version, which in all fairness looks better than the US version..), the line-up of games is just stellar and it just feels so good to be able to just pick up and play all these great games! I just have a constant smile on my face as I relive all these memories from my teenage years. Tremendous! Sure, there are a few omissions as far as the games go, but all in all I feel that the SNES line-up of games is even better that the NES Classic, despite the fact that there's fewer games. Quality over quantity, it's as simple as that. SNES Classic, love it!!

I'm in ON and I went to Walmart because it was the closest store to my office (had to work that day). Woke up 5:30am, went to McDonald's to get takeout, and arrived at the store just before 6:30am. According to the ticket they handed me I was 29th in line and they had 48 units. Was a really nice experience standing in line eating breakfast and talking to the people there. Some were talking about their NES mini horror stories at this same store previously. Rumour was that the people at the front of the line had been there since 11pm the previous night. And it was COLD out (like 7 degrees C) with high chance of rain. I busted out my ski jacket to be safe and was nice and toasty with a hot coffee. Store opened at 7am, lined up to pay, and was out of there by 7:40am, just in time to go work. That was the longest day just waiting to get home and boot that sucker up. Totally worth it! =)

Had a similar experience to you. Walmart that just opened less than 2 years ago, went there around 615AM and the lineup was obviously started already. Got in line and Walmart came and gave me my ticket, 36/46. Talked to the people around me about SNES/Nintendo/Retro gaming and it was a very pleasant experience! Might be a Canadian thing for sure. The line finally filled up and the last ticket handed out around 645AM, and the let us inside to lineup at the tills for the 7AM start (it's was rather windy here in the prairies so was a bit cold). I was surprised because there were no obvious scalpers either. I was expecting families with all their kids that each wanted one but there was none of that. It was mostly age 25-35 demographic people that all seemed to be fans of the system from their childhood. Got my system, which makes me happy after missing the NES Classic, and my BIL got one this morning from Amazon! Much better handled from Nintendo for sure and can't say enough about how Walmart handled it all - although it was a similar experience I had back in the day for the Wii launch (also from Walmart).

I went to the only retailer that did NOT do preorders, Toy's 'R Us. The store opens at 9, but I arrived at 7. I was the first one there and almost froze to death. I was alone until about 8AM, and as the hour progressed, more and more people showed up. The store gracefully had a sign out front that said that they had 42 in stock to sell, so i just had to stay warm and wait for the door to open. A worker came out and handed out tickets at about 8:50. There were maybe 20 people in line there by that time. Everyone was cool and talking about the games and past experiences with waiting in lines. Overall, this was a much better experience than the NES classic where everyone was left in the dark. As i walked out, i noticed several guys running into the store and i told them that they had at least 20+ left. Toys 'R Us was the real MVP this time.

I believe that hospitality and the sympathy of strangers only happens in small groups, such as this group you described. The structure of the event needs to be determined, and the allowance of customers to rush inside must be nonexistent. Here in the US, when I went to Force Friday, the staff was completely disorganized, the customers were hungry for the largest load of figures ( to re-sell on ebay) and everyone rushed into the place without hesitation. It sounds like you had a fuckin awesome experience Johnny! Always love seeing your videos

I'm in Michigan. I was planning on going to Toys R Us. I went to Meijer. If you don't know what Meijer is, it's like Wal Mart. They're not really known for selling video games. It's mainly known for groceries, but you can get toys, clothes, automobile equipment, etc. They had a paper saying they had 14 units. I saw the line and there was only 1 guy. So I went back home to feed my pets. Got bottles of water. Went back. I came back and landed 5th in line. I got a chair from the furniture section (LOL) and some fried chicken from the restraunt. After that, I did not budge. Eventually I had to give up the chair for a generic steel chair, but I still stayed in my spot. I got my SNES classic and I'm happy. Meijer didn't hand out tickets, it was first come, first serve and only 1 per person. And the reason for no tickets is because the manager didn't want people to lose them because he "worked in retail long enough". I personally wouldn't have it any other way. I don't plan on scalping mine. And I refuse to pay for anything more than retail price. I missed out on the NES classic because I didn't think it as going to be such a hot item. But I knew better this time.

Our Best Buy is located in the same shopping center as a Walmart, Target and Game Stop. Best Buy was the last of the bunch to open, but received 342 units. Slowly you saw the people striking out at the other stores joining the Best Buy line. When i left, it looked as though everyone that wanted one, got one. The line experience in Burbank sounds like yours. Everyone was talking with each other, sharing donuts, just having a good time.

There has never been any chance to even preorder this Snes classic in the UK , never seen Nes classic on sale either ? Always on Ebay though for 2-3 times more than retail price

This morning I woke up and was planning on going to Toys R Us to try to get SNES classic, I thought it would be less busy. But on my way there I remembered that Best Buy was like 10 minutes away from opening so I felt like stopping in. I was number 74 to get an SNES classic, they had 120 at the store for people who didn't pre-order. The experience was great because of all the people gathered together for the love of video game nostalgia. It is amazing, the snes is my favorite console and it will live on in HD❤

I'll share my story. I live in a mostly rural part of New Hampshire and the only option for this was a Walmart store. There are pretty much no Walmarts in this state that are 24/7...My store opened at 6 am. I woke up at 5:35 and got there around 5:50. There were only two people standing outside the store, and when the store opened there were about 5 of us total. Went to the back of the store and they had around 20 units in stock. So the first person in line, after purchasing, went to the end of the line and purchased another one. I did the same (I guess that makes me a scalper, though I'm unsure if I'll be selling the second one online or not at this point). A few more people came, and most people bought two units each because there were just not many people there at all. After everyone had left, they still had somewhere between 8-10 units that were not spoken for. At this time of day, they are probably all sold out. But at least in my town, Nintendo did a decent job making sure there was enough supply (for the most part) because everyone who was there early got one (or two). Of course, it would have been better if they released enough such that there would still be a unit or two still left on the shelf at the end of the day...then you would know for sure they made enough. But, overall it was a much better experience than the NES classic, where the Walmart I went to only had 6 units in stock. This is much better people, and it seems that anyone who missed out will hopefully have another chance soon.

So glad you managed to get one. Here in the UK I didn't have any issue preordering from the official UK Nintendo online store, we was given a date and when it would be available a good while before it was available, it did sell out fast but I managed to get my order in without a problem and it arrived 9am BST :D

I skipped school this morning to get mine from the local GameStop. Very much worth it to me. I was number 5 in line with only 18 machines to go around. Everyone in line was cool too and made it a cool experience.

I got lucky enough to get a preorder online back in August. Gamestop did a great job! They had it shipped out and ups had it at my doorstep at 900am. What a great job they did, next up.. the n64 classic edition lol. I truly want to see a little GameCube mini, that would be awesome. So glad you got one and to all the others who bought it for being a fan and not a scalper.

I was at my local Walmart, which is 24 hours at 1145pm, assuming they would have a line and maybe I could get one, but there was no line, the place was a ghost town, and I waited around until about 12:15am when I saw an employee putting stock away and I asked her about it, and she told me they had absolutely none and neither did 2 other Walmarts nearby. I am so disappointed. I missed on the NES classic and I want this one even more. I really hope Nintendo makes more of these. I'm glad your experience was great, I'm glad there wasn't anyone being assholes about it!

Sat in my living room watching the cricket waiting for mine to arrive. Whilst i love amazon logistics delivering things outside of normal hours usually as there is more chance of me being in but today is not one of those days. I've been at home specifically and it's nearly 18:00 and still no sign...

Mine started at the preorder. I was about to leave my GameStop when the preorders went live. The manager called me from across the store to let me know they went live to make sure I knew to get one. I was actually about to walk out, and thought it would indeed be cool to have one. Amusingly, I never planned on ever buying one because I knew how much of a pain it would be just to even try to get one. So, I picked it up with Forza 7 earlier at around 11:30. Just to be clear, I am good friends with the people at my local GameStop, and we keep each other up to date with gaming news. I've even gone out and bought elusive amiibo for them when I've come across them, and they'd just pay me back.

Yeah I'm pleased to say my Walmart experience was great too. my Walmart was doing a midnight release and not knowing how many would be showing up; I set up camp in electronics around 11 am Thursday. The cool part is the manager took it upon himself to get past nintendo consoles and hook them up so people could play while we waited. Had a NES, N64 and gamecube. Just had a good time playing games and chilling with employees really until 8-9 pm when others slowly came in and played games and talked until 11pm when they gave us cake and punch. Midnight rolled around, people were called in order and one unit per person. Just a good experience even with the wait.

I liked this video before it even played 😃 I managed to pre-order mine back in June, here in England. Today, at work, alone felt longer than the 3 months since I ordered it. It's well worth the wait, though - I love it. Enjoy your SNES Classic weekend, my man! 😃

I am happy you got one too!! I am loving mine :D I am so glad that the 8bitdo wireless SNES controller I bought for my Switch will also work on the SNES mini!!! xD In Australia, our EB stores were well-prepared and it was a fun experience. The best part was seeing how happy some latecomers were who were hoping to get one as they were not able to preorder...and there were 5 spares, they were so happy!!

Cool vid. I got mine at Target this morning. There were 24 people ahead of me so I was a little nervous. We were given tickets around 745 am..I got number 25. They had about 75 units. I decided to give it a shot last minute after taking the kids to school. Store opens at 8am I lined up at 730am. Now I'm in my office staring at this box. Waiting for 5pm to enjoy this with my wife.

Lined up at Meijer's at 10pm last night, they had 12 units. I was 9th in line. An old couple lined up behind me to get one each for their grand kids. By the time the 12 units were accounted for, there were three more line up after them. Most of the line was buzzing and hyped for the SNES, but those last three that lined up were very honest that they were there to buy them and flip them. Happy to say that not one of those three got one.

I'm happy for everyone that got one and actually is going to enjoy playing it. thank you for sharing your experience too! i wish i had been in on one of those lines but i work a morning shift, and skipping work to buy something worth 4/5 of my daily wages doesn't make much cents lol. i plan to get one within the month of October though. thank God Nintendo woke up to the reality of the demand this time around. and to put it bluntly, anyone who feels the need question why this product matters or if it's worth it is either dead broke due to poor lifestyle choices or not even old enough to work. quit being so bitter, guys. scarcity mentality is a real thing. you do nothing to bring down those who are happy about the SNES classic; you only keep yourself down :/

waited out in line at 8:45 pm the day before. EB games opened at 8am. I got one and then headed out to another store to buy another. A friend of mine was out on Vacation and wanted her hands on one. The snes classics were sold out in the city by 1pm that day

I got a notification from the Amazon Treasure Truck during lunch at work today and I was able to order one. I mentioned it to my friend who also works with me and he signed up for the Treasure Truck and he got to order one too. After work I drove out to where the truck was and picked up mine and my friends consoles. It was a pretty cool experience for it being their first item offered.

My experience was super chill at Walmart. They got 28 in and I was second in line. It was a 24 hr Walmart so we got them at 12:01 EST everyone in line was talking and reminiscing on games. I think only one person got turned away while I was there.

I have a funny story of how i missed mine (got one later though) Searched everywhere around my hometown and no one had it so i started to search even in some supermarkets who also got electronics. I went to Real (its a supermarket in germany) I met a guy who also searched everywhere (we met at expert. It is a store selling electronic stuff) So we booth with our little kids walking to that supermarket and there it was. The SNES mini. The only problem was that there was only one left :D So we flipped a coin and he won, we shaked hands and left the store :D

This morning at 10am I called my local Gamestop and asked if they have any SNES classics in. The manager said that there was a line at the store. He told to get there quick if I wanted one. As soon as I got off the phone with him, I rushed to the Gamestop and got there at 10:20. I got the last one that they had if you did not preorder one. I also got the SNES book. I was goddamn lucky. When I was paying for it, a woman came in and asked for one. The manager told her it was sold, and she got pissed. She said, "It's bullshit". So, I got very lucky to get mine. I have been playing Super Metroid in HDMI. I already have the game on the Japanese Super Famicon (CIB). Happy Friday! I will say that the scalpers are out in full force today. They are going for 160 to 230 dollars. Its crazy.
