If you chose to put it outside , you may want to make vinyl cover to avoid dirt and salt, higher up would help to, less road grime and protected from other vehicles when parked
@stevennath92074 жыл бұрын
I am planning on converting the garage to living quarters with a wall with regular door and windows about 2 feet before the ramp door. That leaves plenty of room in that space for a couple splits. Since I don't have toys the ramp will actually become my outdoor patio deck and if I put open diamond plate in front of where the splits sit and sound deadening material on the inside it should be able to get plenty of air stay out of the elements and when the deck is down I can use flexible plenum material so that they're still getting air but they won't be making that much noise when the ramp is beibf used as a patio. I think with some solar panels and an inverter I should be able to keep a bank of batteries fully charged to handle two splits and a residential refrigerator. Watching your video is what finally helped me bring it together so thank you so much for that.it was actually the way you have it set up with the door that gave me the idea about creating an open space that allows them to be inside and protected, but with plenty of air. Safe travels and keep up the great videos.

Made my own cabinet- bed frames. I used rolllerhouse electric shade motors. The window shades took a lot of time to make them work right. About $18,000, electrical the most expensive, I find slightly used lithium batteries, 4each valance 138 amp/hr for $350 each. I used ikea’s return section to get most of the high gloss panels and added aluminum angel to cover cut edges. Table is stainless steel ikea door. It most challenging is to fit everything in such a way that you have more space for storage. No need to frame wall and cover each side with panel that makes it 2” thick than one 3/4” panel that’s finished on both sides.

Good question, in order to have as much storage as I have, you have no choice than put fresh, gray, and black water tanks, you would need to install heat pads under tanks to keep them above 32f. Awesome build. Really thought out and problem solved the things you didn't like from your first RV to make it truly customized just for you. The minisplit idea is intriguing, and your setup in the back is unique. An awning over the back would provide some protection in case you have to work on it in the rain. I would worry if I had to leave a door open. I know you wanted stealth, but if that isn't needed, do you think it possible to install that aircon unit into the door, like an after market van window?

Fantastic build! Agree on small kitchen, we cook mostly outside unless raining hard. Did you consider a downward exhaust for the mini split? Would allow door to be closed. This to me would be an essential change. A side exhaust would be acceptable and might work ok.
@paullehto18233 жыл бұрын
A lot of people commented about leaving door open, I could put unit under or behind rear doors like a spare tire . I like minisplit behind doors when not used and stays clean from road grit. When I’m at camp ground or wallmart I simply open door. I have water proof 2/3” plywood wall. In back. Please tell me why leaving door open is a problem that needs fixing

@@paullehto1823 Paul, not an engineering issue, it is a security issue, I do not want open access to my vehicle while I may be sleeping. In Florida it does not cool off at night, for example.
@paullehto18233 жыл бұрын
I think your missing the fact that there is no access to inside from back. There is 3/4” plywood with 2” of foam with other 1/2” plywood . It’s stronger wall than most house walls
@daviddavis78553 жыл бұрын
@@paullehto1823 Yes , good point, but just an open door is an invitation in some locations. As an engineer, I am looking at a downdraft installation with louvers to keep out road debris when not operational. I really do like your design, it focused on the actual camping experience, which is outdoors, not indoors! We rarely spend time inside our class C when camping, except for sleeping. I just need room for the Clam!

Thanks, I’ve spent my whole life designing homes that I hope people are happy with. Camper vans are a new challenge. Small makes then more mobile, but we have our needs that require space. That’s the challenge I plan on taking. My new shorter van will have almost the same comfort as this van but 30” shorter with AWD.

@@paullehto1823 Why does everyone end up going shorter?
@paullehto18233 жыл бұрын
Rv’s are expensive, if you have shorter van you can use it has your daily runner. You still can’t use most drive thurs. when traveling, I want a comfortable bed, Airconditioning, and full bath like a hotel. Small kitchen is a plus that you don’t get in most hotel rooms.

Wow...lots of great innovation but for your garage ac unit if the one rear door needs to be open....it seems the "stealth street mode" is totally lost????
@paullehto18234 жыл бұрын
I have only camped street mode twice in my last 4 years rving. Both times perfect night, no a/c or heat needed. Being a harvest host member I can stay at beautiful winieries, farms, and other places for free. I also stay at federal and state parks. Many of these don’t have hookups. Minisplit for me is so much better than rooftop a/c , it’s quiet ( I can sleep) and can run all night.

Great build ideas- marine products and materials, mini-split, durable Ikea items, access panels, extra space between bed and wall- this also prevents sleeping against a cold exterior wall. Less music volume please- I had to rewatch several times to best hear what you have to say. Can you make a video about the actual marine products you used?

What did I just watch? Paul, this is incredible! Quick question: for the mini split to work properly, doesn’t the compressor supposed to be on the outside of the van? How does that operation work?
@paullehto18234 жыл бұрын
Down side to this set up is, You must open door on drivers side when running mini split. The upside is I can run it all night either for heat( down to -4 f) or a/c off my 560amp/hr lithium batteries. It’s also very quiet . My next van build I’m going to mount it outside rear door. The wall behind minisplit is waterproof and secure.it’s great to have a/c all night when there is no hookups like many National campgrounds.
@mikefranks45284 жыл бұрын
@@paullehto1823 you thought of everything, sir! That shouldn’t be too bad since you have a insulated waterproof wall and left side of door only needs to be opened and it’s a fresh clean look. Hands-down I even think this is better than ARV Vans. Dare I say.

Wonderful build! 👍 Did you CAD this before you built it?
@paullehto18234 жыл бұрын
No, I do my design by hand drawings, after plywood is done on floor and ceiling, I do a-center chalk line on both length wise. All measurements are taken from these lines. I tape every thing out on floor and much sure everything’s fits. It takes a lot of studying on how to fit everything tightly so that everything fits, next one would take 1/2 the time
@paullehto18234 жыл бұрын
