I seen some one add a fan for their mini spilt for their van. It’s similar to this van’s set up so instead of keeping door open, they keep the fan open

The best home build I’ve seen. Mini split is genius

The pros, not having 100ibs on top makes rv corner better, better gas mileage, looks better,, more room for solar, minisplits are quieter and much more energy efficient. They also can heat down to -15f efficiently..

Great Video. Inspiring me to get rid of the tornado sound effects box on the roof ac -- which incidentally removing the diffuser grille on blower helped reduce noise. Really would be sweet to be able to mount under van, but I realize form factor of your mini-split does not accommodate and of course more issues with keeping clean... I am sure the larger fan and blower are so much quieter than the traditional roof mount. Did not think about gas mileage penalty for roof unit. With gas prices going up, might help pay for alternate solution.

Paul glad to see your brilliant mind at work. We have a 2016 airstream van. We took out the scissor couch bed and are selling it because of the air conditioner and the window blinds. My husband contacted the company who put their screens and nite shades in the vans. These motors and there are two in each window have burned out twice in two years. They have since been pulled out from airstream but what company did you use please for your window blinds. My husband has built food trucks and we want to build from scratch because we want as little computer stuff as possible. Love your channel. Big fan. Please respond if you have time. FYI for the front windshield and front windows we used a company called “Adventure Van Co”. They custom make the shades and have never seen anyone make one as good. Lower temps by 15-20 degrees

Great set up! Why not cut out a square on the left rear door? and put a tight metal grill?
@paullehto18233 жыл бұрын
Most rv’s built in Japan use minisplits and they put a large metal grill for exiting air. I can’t see we’re the input air comes in. Maybe from same grill. My new van is finally delivered 6 months late. It’s 30” shorter AWD . I’m placing minisplit outside rear doors. I will cover for long road trips to reduce road grime. I will also need flex line set since it will be attached to rear doors. If anyone has ideas I would love to here

Minisplits need a lot of air all around unit to work, sides, back,front. Rec pro sells a nice low profile roof heat pump I’ve used. Not as good as minisplit. will heat down to to 30f. My next build I’m going with shorter transit and will install minisplit outside rear doors. Flex lines so I can swing out to open rear doors

Paul great video and beautiful quality build. The bathroom is beautiful and the electric blinds are amazing. Wondering what are the blinds that you used and the material for the shower pan. Beverly careful what you buy. Our airstream came with electric screens and blinds for each window. Great insulator but each motor has burned out twice in two years in each window. We contacted the company and have since stopped making the motor airstream had put in. The new motor for our blinds would cost us $1200 per window. $600.00 for each unit. I will say the screens and nite shades are amazing but if the motor burns out when the screen is up, it ruins your trip in summer

Paul, what you've done is super cool! I'm Paul, too, by the way. The only thing I don't like is leaving that door open. I wonder if, with some flexible coolant lines, you could store it inside your van, but then set it out on a back tray when you want to use it. I'm curious what was the power consumption when you ran it 10 hours overnight and how hot was it outside? You mentioned your 560 Ah of batteries--wondering how much of your batteries that used. Also, how do you keep your big 560 Ah bank charged up each day? Very helpful and fun video--thank you!

I’m building a new van , 2021 AWD transit high roof , not extended next. I’m going to mount minisplit outside rear door, will use flex lines and vinyl cover when off road. It uses on avg 300 wattst (500watts on very hot or cold day)

Since wall behind minisplit is waterproof and insulated ( much better than the rear doors) , it’s no problem leaving door open unless your camping on the street. The advantages are many, quite and efficient, better gas mileage, more room for solar, heats down to -5f, moving 90lbs lower will improve cornering. Looks stealth ( with doors close) with no a/c on top.

We use the van mostly weekends and couple of road road trips a year. It’s rare to need a/c more than few hours a day were we live . I never had the need for solar, I charge with heavy transit alternator with 60 amp renogy dc-dc charger. I also can charge battery’s with inverter- charger at a campsite

The condensate drain, did you use a pump or run the drain on either side of the side window? These units come pre charged so the line set is a pre-determined length correct? The stealth factor of the van is fantastic! The thought process, workmanship and outcome is impressive! Thanks for sharing.
@paullehto18234 жыл бұрын
The condensate drain runs in wall cavity in area right before shower wall, and runs out under van , no pump required. I had a a/c pro cut the lines to size and check everything, that’s the only part of van build that I did not do

What I can tell you for sure, rv A/C units are far inferior to minisplits used in buildings. This is because the building market is much larger and afford the newest technology.. rv heat pumps are good to 30f, minisplits building units go to -20f, rv A/C units are a pathetic seer 10, building units go up to deer 40, that’s 4 times longer you can run heat or A/C for the same batteres .
