Hello! I finally had a mini-split (Daikin) installed this winter and don't really know the best/most cost effective way to run it. I basically only want to use in really cold winter and really hot summer. I heard you should not turn it off, so what is the best method to use when needed, but not waste $$ when not needed. (Did not really come with a manual, just one big sheet) Thanks so much from Maryland USA!

How about a bad temperature sensor? I have a brand, you Senville 18K btus with an inverter. The unit will keep running as long as it on (heating or cooling) passing the set temperature by many degrees. Correct amount of refrigerant...I replaced the control board of the air handler...did not make a difference. My last hope is the temp sensor.

I can't get a set temperature, I'll set it to 70 degrees in auto, cool, or comfy and it just keep blowing cold air down into the lows 60s, only way to stop that is to shut it off.. what's up with that as I read this is a common problem

Theoretical perfection in heating and cooling is when the unit is only supplying what is being lost. Boilers and ductless are well on their way to doing this. Boilers are at a 10 to 1 turndown and ductless, because they do not need to maintain a static pressure for balancing, are also getting close to infinite turndown. Early Sanyo units used the remote as a thermostat that had to be in eyeshot of the unit to work. The Comfort star units I install give you a choice, you can flash the unit with the remote and put the remote in a drawer, it is no longer needed. Because the unit is now taking its measurement from the thermistor in the unit, the indoor fan must be on continuously in order to get a true room temperature. Even in a power outage it will restart and go to the last setting. You can also use the "Follow me" button and turn the remote into the thermostat but once again it must stay within eyeshot of the unit to work, this is often used when they are placed on a higher wall. This will allow the unit to run until it gets to the actual temperature that the remote is sitting in. The new high heat Comfort star has a snap out blower. This is a major innovation because squirrel cage blowers tend to get packed with dirt and having them cleaned is expensive. This is one of the reasons I use cassettes whenever possible as they contain radial fans that dont build up dirt and are quieter, unfortunately they cant be used everywhere. Also I would like to point out that there are two "Auto" on the remote One is like you said to let the unit pick the proper fan speed so it can adjust to the load the other that confuses people is an automatic switchover from cooling to heating. People get in trouble with this on multi units if one unit is in a warmer or cooler room like a kitchen. These units can not heat and cool simultaneously like a three pipe unit. It is either one or the other and if one unit switches to heat while the other switches to cool you will pull an error code. So make sure you are setting the auto for the fan not for the unit. I was cleaning the units I installed but have recently given my cleanings to a guy that is specializing just in cleaning ductless, he is becoming quite good at disassembling all the different brands and is doing quite well. In Australia where these units have been around for many years they have franchises that do nothing but clean ductless units. This is definitely a good job for someone who is careful and meticulous to get into as most HVAC techs really don't care to do this.

Thing is with a Mitsubishi multi-split setup. I discovered that the inverter cannot throttle the BTUs down as low as it would be able to with a mini split. The lowest BTU output is set by the outside compressor which is high enough for my bedroom units that it cools them down quickly, the fan keeps running and redistributes all the moisture from the coil becoming a humidifier. So I'll have 70° with 65% humidity in this summer..... My workaround was to get one of those Cielo breeze controllers, set comfy temp so that when the compressor shuts off so does the fan.. Now I have 70° and 45% humidity...

I have a 2021 GREE Mini Split and when set to COLD it never shuts off. (fan will completely shut off when in HEAT mode after reaching set temperature however) When set to COLD and the compressor shuts off the fan will continue to run which it's supposed to just like the guy explains in the video. The setting AUTO is the fan speed and yes, keep it on AUTO for the best efficiency.

I am wondering, which setting on these units are more finaically cheaper, should you leave it on automatic or on the coolest setting. I have a 18,000 BTU and I am only cooling one small bedroom, on the coolest setting it gets to cold and I have to turn it off, then back on. I set it at 30 and I live in Europe so the temp. setting may be different than in America where I am from. If I have it on Automatic it doesn't seem to get cool enough, this is also a new unit. I just need to know which setting is the most economic way, and which is beter, to trun it off when it gets to cold then back on when it gets to warm, the unit never shuts off automatically. 🙃🙃🙃

I'm new to this too. So far, watching my energy usage daily. It takes more energy for about the first three days it's on to build up the pressure. After that my energy usage has been lower. My units are always on, but they deliver the temperature they are set at. Maybe set the fan to auto. (If you only have 1 unit, maybe try that on auto. But you can't use AUTO MODE if you have more than 1 unit.) Also, often the remote is the thermostat. Be careful where it is in relation to the unit. I like a very cold bedroom, but need it warmer in the day. I set it at 63° night, 68° day. Maybe you should ask a technician if yours are working correctly.

If your system is working correctly it’s not supposed to turn off unless you turned it off, it’s supposed to ramp down and keep you comfortable. My first month with a mini split I got hit with a 600 bucks power bill cause I keep messing with the thermostat thinking something was wrong. The following month I left it alone at a set temperature and my power bill has gone down at an average of 15% every month compared to what I used the previous year.

I just installed a new Daiken mini split and I will set the set point to 72 on heating and it will heat it past 80 in the room without shutting off. Turn it to 70 and it will finally shut off. Same in cooling. I'll set the set point to 68 in summer and it will freeze you out of the room with the temp lower than 62 in there. I've been with Daiken tech support for 2 months on this and the things they have told us to try or replace haven't fixed the problem. The home owner is starting to get impatient. We're about read to eat the unit and throw a different brand on there for free. Any suggestions?

Same here with my Mistubishi mini split. Set it at 78, rooms get hot, does not start cooling unless I give it a nudge with the remote. Sometimes it starts cooling automatically, but it is really annoying that I have to keep the remote next to be to lower the temperature for it to finally start cooling. Maybe the temp swing is too much like 1.5/2*F before it turns on, idk how to change it.

Ideally it would work the other way if you have a hot humid summer. My Mitsubishi's run continuously once temp is reached in both modes. I have a controller I bought on Amazon that shuts off the fan when the temp is reached in cooling mode. So it doesn't redistribute moisture off the coil and make the room humid. In heat mode I want the fan to keep running

I did a video recently on this exact topic that you should check out. Most multi zone systems cannot be in different modes and operate properly. Although this would not necessarily create damage to the system, it will usually just not operate at all, if the systems are in different modes.

@HomesteadOnThePreserve
@HomesteadOnThePreserve Жыл бұрын
You may have the same situation as me. The temperature set on the unit makes the house way colder then its set at. Example, the mini split is set to 79 but it cools the house to 74. If i set the temp to 74 it would make the house 69. My old house with central AC had an adjustable thermostat that could swing 3 degrees. Meaning i could add or subtract 3 degrees to the thermostat that the AC wouldn't recognize. If the mini split allowed me to do that I could set it to 76 instead of 79 and it would cool to 74 by using the example above. If it could swing 5 degrees that would be perfect because then the house would cool to exactly what i set it at.

"Inverter" also means DC electric motors, correct? If yes, DC runs much more quiet than AC as the "60 hz cycle" is not present in a DC motor.
@NewHVACGuide
@NewHVACGuide Жыл бұрын
What is an inverter in HVAC? An inverter air conditioner uses microprocessors to control the speed of its compressor motor to match the required output. Once the room is cool or warm, an inverter air conditioner lowers the speed of the motor to save energy and maintain the desired temperature.

The long and short of it is "inverter" units use variable speed motors on the compressor, and to drive the air handler and outdoor fans as well. It's actually a confusing terminology to use, not sure why they use the term "inverter" because that usually denotes taking DC and turning it into AC. Yet the source current for all of these HVAC units is AC. This term is often used in solar energy or RV equipment, where an inverter takes DC output from a battery or a solar panel and turns it into house current at 120 AC. So in trying to clear this up I probably just added to the confusion sorry.

@@EPeltzerSo true, an engineer corrected me once when I used that inverter term on HVAC. We both agreed that AC should be converted to DC at the main panel of homes and run everything on DC, lights, motors everything because DC is more efficient than AC but it cannot travel the distance of AC which is why its being used mostly. We have garage door openers, washing machines and dryers that have DC motors in them and they are so quiet !
