MINI UPDATE: Panasonic UB9000 4K Problems Plus Upcoming Videos By The End Of 2022

A small update on some issues I had with my Panasonic 4K player. Plus a quick update on videos that should be out by the end of 2022.

I have the UB820 and love it, no problems. I did have to exchange it though. My first one had a problem with drive noise like you describe. Good luck.

Hope your new player is fine. I have the UB820. No issues. I thought about getting your model, but I only use my player as a reader to send video information to my TV and audio information to my surround processor. I thought the 9000 would be overkill for that, although the build quality is much better.

This sort of reminds me of 1997 or 1998. The first DvD-players came and I bought a champaign colored Pioneer dvp-505 or something. A friend bought a Panssonic that was pretty expensive. Mine worked fine. Loaded a bit slower but played anything. Even discs it was not supposed to manage. The Panasonic burned up. In just three weeks. That model had a heat problem. Otherwise Panasonic has some good stuff around. They are very good at making codecs for sure! Hope all goes well! Merry Christmas!

My Panasonic player just gave up playing 4ks after about a year. It started with glitches, then stopping and skipping,, then it just wouldn't load any 4ks kept saying doesn't recognise disc. It's still under warranty so I'll sort it after Christmas, I ve got a lot of blurays to catch up on. Hope your new one is OK as they look great when they work.

This is almost identical to what’s happening to mine! It hasn’t gotten to the point where it doesn’t recognize 4K discs (yet), but mine has done everything else you mention (I’ve had it 2-3 years). I got a Sony X800M2, and that has been freezing 2/3rds the way through triple layer 4K discs right out of the box. Now I’m debating getting another Panny… reason I avoided it at first is because for $1000 you kind of expect a device that’ll have a relatively long life (that’s a part of the reason I got the 9000).

I added a usb powered muffin fan to the top if my Oppo 205 to hopefully increase the lifespan. It turns on when the player is turned on. The player already ran fairly cool, so I added the fan above the only area that generated any heat. Now it all runs very cool.

Yes a true bummer. With the products sitting longer because of shipping delays and the lack of Quality control we are having issues. When it is new the update can help in one situation and can hurt in another. Most products are minimally inspected and not long enough to notice the squeak or sqeal More products are made by other computers and their fine tolerances that the process is to ridged it lacks the human touch The squealing and the artifacts in the picture are connected. Be sure allow your player to run continuously for the next 24 hours to allow the components to be more relaxed and less stiff by this constant motion.I do this for old DVD players and recently a micro SD card I had in old phone that has not been used in 8 years since my strokes. I had all the same issues with the Sony Mark 1 it drove me round the bend freezing up silences on layer change no time to die both the 4k and bluray same problem at the same place. It had to go so I got the panasonic 820 plays all regions fantastic picture and sound big plus us dolby vision which the mark 1 didn't have. I hope you have a replacement soon.

Sorry to hear this. I have the model below your one the ub820. As I understand it has the same video capability but lesser build quality and does not have as good audio circuitry as the flagship model. It works flawlessly and the upscaling of dvd discs is fantastic! If your replacement doesn't work out go for the 820 and save yourself some cash as you need a serious audio set up to fully make use of the flagship player👍🎅

Oh no sorry to hear about that. I have the UB820 it’s been pretty great. I’ve had it for about 4 years or so. Have you tried updating the FW? Also have you tried a different hdmi cable for the pixilation issue. I also upgraded from the Sony x800 which had the constant freezing.

Hi, mine has an issue with the hdmi settings, when i go into the items it kicks me out immediatly, I can't change anything, but only in the HDMI settings (the first one). If anyone has the same issue, I would love to receive any helps, thx !

I have a strange problem. Blu ray player was playing blu ray and DVD fine. Suddenly today it stopped playing audio with DVDs but does with BLU RAYS. Any idea what the issue could be? I’ve tried everything. It’s the latest flagship model the UB9000.

I had bad luck with Panasonic DVD players. Switched to Sony when I got my Blu Ray player, no problems and now have the 800-M2 4k. So far so good. Sorry to hear you're having issues with the new player so annoying. Hopefully the new one doesn't have any problems.

I'm of the opinion that the issue lays with the discs. I have the same player (Region free) and have zero issues playing Blurays/DVD's that are purchased locally, region 4 (Australia). However, I have quite a number of movies from the US/UK and when I play them, some of them have pixilating or freezing issues as you have described. So I'm kinda thinking it is not the player, although all Blurays/DVD's come from overseas, which would suggest it could be something to do with the region coding or geo-blocking on the disc? As for the 'squeaking' noise, I don't have that issue at all... Yet.

I got the same setup u have there, my C1 is the 48 inch model and it’s in my bedroom, wit the UB820 player and now I bought my first Soundbar. Got the Bose Smart Soundbar 900 wit Dolby Atmos, I like it so far. Not sure when I’ll get the Bose Bass Module or Bose Surround Speakers, the sound bar sounds great on it’s own for now and good amount of Bass in it too and this is for a bedroom only.

So strange my 9000 doesn't do the squeek or the menu problem you mentioned. My road house 4K from Vinager Syndrome was a lemon it froze during the stabbing scene on 3 different 4K players. So I emailed them & they said they would send another disc in the mail.

I really hope the new player works well for you. I'm starting to look into getting a new 4K blu-ray player. Of course, $1,000 is pretty steep for my budget. I was initially expecting to go with the Xbox Series X, but apparently it only supports DolbyVision HDR for streaming and games, not for disc playback, so now I'm having to consider other options. Also, I've been seeing a lot of complaints about disc playback on the Series X. Looking forward to seeing what else you have lined up.

@@Stevenmacher I wouldn't say Xbox is a good disc player, but I still use it. I'm not even happy with it as a video game console. I am still looking forward to the Panasonic UB9000 and figuring out the best way to connect a PS2. Both would be better than my current set-up.

Sorry to hear your experience hasn't been great. I have a ub9000 and have not had any issues. If picture issues persist I would troubleshoot a bit as it may be the hdmi cable or even the hdmi ports on your projector or receiver. Connect the projector to your player directly, see if you still get issues, and also try different inputs/outputs on your avr. All this gear is made by different manufacturers and for some reason some play nicer together than others...

Hello. I purchased a UB9000 five months ago. After two months, it began to make noise when playing Blu-rays during the first 5-15 minutes of the film; then the noise stops. With 4K Blu-rays, the noise is louder and persists beyond the beginning of the film! Have you experienced similar issues?

@@andreassouth1523 no I haven't. My ub9000 pretty much not had any issues apart from the eject button on the unit not always working, but it's not often and the one on my harmony remote works flawlessly, so it's not really a problem.

I'm kind of feeling sick about something concerning a tremendously less expensive item. Specifically, the other day the French Bezos site had the Demons 1&2 4K Steelbook - which I first mentioned prior to it even being released and which I nearly ordered with the items I eventually did order recently and got the second of the two of in today - for a little over half what it had been listed for there, and so I wanted to build another order which would include it, and as has happened to me SEVERAL times on different sites, they ran out of it while I was doing that and two days or so later, they still don't have any more of them.

Hi Richard, just joined. I purchased a Panasonic DB-UB9000 last year (out of warranty by 3 months). I had to travel 5 hours to purchase this and was so excited. Worked brilliantly for quite a while but then a few months ago the disc drive won’t eject. When I press eject it says reading and starts playing the disc that is in it. I have used the ok, blue and yellow button directions from the manual, reset to factory settings too and nothing works. Any idea on this problem, possibly a solution? Thank you. K Bird

Exactly the same problem with mine. Mine won't eject either. I tried everything that you have. Still nothing. I had to open up the player to retrieve my disc. I bought the 820 model, which hasn't had any issues...so far.

Make use you update the firmware on your new player. Any issues should be fixed.

I learned when I get pixelation that I need to clean finger print from discs. Won't fix the squeak.

I’m sure the new is great but the ub820 should basically be that current player without some of the build quality. That’s what I own it’s great. There really aren’t other players worth recommending. You could try a cheap Lg.

Hey Richard , sorry for the problems u had wit the UB9000, I have it’s little brother player the UB820 and honestly it’s better, it’s only 500 dollars , which is half the price of the UB9000. The UB820 doesn’t have the metal body like the UB9000 has, it’s mostly all plastic. There’s no stereo amplifier built in. I did have my player freeze once when I was watching Matrix Resurrections 4K Blu-ray Disc in one scene. Had to skip a scene then it worked fine. But I unplugged the player and restarted it, went back to that actual scene and the disc played normally, no problems, never had any freeze issues since, all my standard Bluray movies play no problems, same for 4K blurays too. The HDR Optimizer on my player is the exact same as the UB9000. It does look amazing. I never had any squeaky noises on my player like u did. My advice is if the UB9000 player keeps havin problems, go for the UB820 it’s little brother. It has the same video and audio quality, only cons are no metal body and no stereo amplifier, that’s it only pro is it’s half the price of UB9000. I’m happy so far. I’m from Canada, big fan of tech stuff. I have a LG C1 OLED 48 inch for my bedroom and Panasonic UB820 4K Bluray player and now I bought a Bose Smart Soundbar 900 wit Dolby Atmos, I like it so far. The manufacturers aren't putting in enough effort to produce new and updated 4K players that will get the best out of the format. Even the 9000 is over four years old now I think, to my knowledge with nothing still on the horizon for Panasonic.

The UB9000 was released in 2018. The latest iteration is the UB9000P1K. The ONLY difference is the DAC. The 2018-2020 UB9000 had an AKM DAC but apparently the factory which made them burned down!? Panasonic opted for the ESS Sabre DAC for all 2021 onward models.

You are right. I use this great blu ray player for playing cd's. My amplifier is a Accuphase. E-650 and it sounds terrific.

I bought a panasonic ub8000 about 8 months ago, had nothing but issues like you described, big piece of crap, replaced it with Sony 800 m2 and all good, $500 wasted, guess I'll try to sell it as is, plays disc's eventually after unplugging and loading and unloading disc's.

I read for years that Panasonic has the best high end media players.I bought the DP-UB9000.I am shocked it will not play disc’s from different regions.I don’t see any difference in a two hundred dollar player and this.Playing disc’s from different regions would have been one thing to make it cost so much money,but it doesn’t even do that.Panasonic is all hype and no substance.Sony smokes them in every way.

If the second UB9000 player doesn't work out the Magnetar UDP800 was announced a couple of weeks ago but it's going to cost you $1,600. Then there's buying a used Oppo 203 if you want something really reliable. Sucks to buy a new player and it doesn't work right. Anyway have a Merry Christmas.

1:50 I read a lot about this freezing problem with Poltergeist's UHD in a Blu-ray forum. Seems you're not alone. I haven't watched my copy yet, but I'll bet it freezes.

I ordered THE PANASONIC DP UB9000 from AMAZON came with streaming issue you could see horizontal lines on dark scenes, sent it back, got a brand new one from BB and by far is better than my old SAMSUNG UH4k which is over 5 years old and just started humming noises, the PANY is so smooth quiet & improved my sound/video and BLU RAYS, i had no idea how pale my old 4K PLAYER looked, until i played the PANY😂

Richard i feel for you i swear to god as my witness (I tend to get lemons so many times) When i first started collecting DVD’s had to return replaced dvd player twice, had to swap out a Multi disc cd player back in 1996/1997 i bought the XboxOne during the first price break i bought it at WalMart less then 2hrs later i’m back at Wal Mart swapping it out for a replacement the console couldn’t read game disc i tend to always get the defective products 😢😢😢😢 (Good luck hopefully everything works out)

I think you should get a Xbox as a 4k player is more reliable I had a Panasonic ub420 after 3 weeks I started seeing a white line vertical this begins after watching the Walking Dead seasons 7 watch over 9 hrs. In my xbox I played games in disc for 4hrs then watch movies for another 5 hrs nothing wrong no vertical white lines. I return the Panasonic in my local bestbuy I LOVE the Panasonic 4k player the picture is beautiful blows away my xbox. Now im planning to get Panasonic ub820 the ub9000 is beautiful. How reliable is this?

This has been the worst purchase I have ever made. Purchased this player in 2022 because of how it was praised as the “best” 4k player. I paid $1200 for it, 8 months later I start getting pixaleted video on a lot of 4k movies. I tried the same movies on my other 4k player (Sony $300) and ps5/series x and they all worked. Called up Panasonic and with their awful 3 month labor warranty I had to pay $115 for the repairs. $115 on top of already $1200 is just ridiculous. It’s been another 8 months and again the same problem has started. The problem now is that since the player is completely out of warranty they want $115 for labor and shipping and $550 for parts. I would NEVER buy another Panasonic product ever again. It has been nothing but a pain dealing with this trash product. If I could sell it I would and recover some money back.
