I bought an old mini bench vise, it is not an antique, but it is not very common. In this video, I restore it,And made a little modification.

I have one about this size on my welding table, it’s amazing how much I use it. If you want a fixed vice it’s a decent restoration, I like that mine is on a clamp. I’m sure some people don’t realise that a lot of metal paints tell you not to put an undercoat on. Things like colour are purely subjective, it’s not for others to say if it’s right or wrong, if you like it it’s right.

More like a salvage than a true restoration.

You did a pretty good job, don't know or want to know where you got that paint, gawd what a color, but it's yours and if you like it that's cool!
@kenparnell42975 жыл бұрын
Yeah, throwing away a part of something that can be saved isn't a restoration, and not using primer....and that would be two coats of primer, before painting is also just being lazy. I like that you saved that part of it but if you're gonna restore, then restore the whole thing and not just the parts you feel good about doing.

That part was the whole point of that vice , it's portable lol

The only guy I see has a complete portable vice and he throws the handy half away to make it a small perminent vice that makes zero sense when the handy half could be freshened up and made right and kept with the top part of the vice as a portable appendage like it was designed to be. Nice work though

I can't believe you threw away the base. That was a good part of the value and uniqueness.

That is a nice small vice great video thanks 🍺🍺👍👍👍

Funny what people pick on. I would have kept the base BUT it’s your vice so it’s your choice. I think you did a good job. I like the way you made new brass washers. I like the colour and I don’t like the way someone made negative comments about it. I’ll say it again, it’s your vice so it’s your choice. Besides it’s not hard to change the colour later. Negative people are dicks. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺.

It’s yours, so if you’re happy and consider that a finished product then that’s all that matters... it’s ok to disagree, that’s why we’re individuals...

I literally stopped watching when I saw the wire wheel being used with gloves. It's too uncomfortable because I've seen first hand what can happen lol

Since you have a lathe, I'd fish that cast base table clamp out of the scrap box. Make a new pad for the clamping screw out of that brass stock you have. Counter bore the pad so that when slipped over the clamping screw you can stake the screw so the pad won't fall off. Or you could drill and tap the end of the clamping screw for a small retaining screw and washer for the pad. A few minutes work with a side grinder and a file should have the clamping surface squared up to fit the work bench correctly. Good video.

You lost me when you threw away the table clamp. That was just lazy and totally degraded the “restoration” part of the video.

Parker Pascucci thanks, I will. I still think this was a shitty, lazy “restoration” though. Thanks for reminding me. 🙄
@giggidygiggidy48845 жыл бұрын
Parker Pascucci and now that you’ve made me re-watch it to see what was wrong with it seeing as I commented on it two months ago I’m even more annoyed. There was nothing wrong with that table clamp, that’s literally the way it would’ve been made. And why do you think he kept it? He threw it in a scrap pile.

Two things, you could have just used a rust/paint stripper wheel or you could have used paint stripper first cause by the looks of it, it took a while. But all in all great job 😁

G r a h a m A brilliant tool. If I had to advise anyone what to buy straight after the basics, such as the aforementioned "thumb detector", I would say an impact driver and torque wrench.

Out of all of these I've watched, I've never saw a sand blaster. They are handy. I like watching these cause they remind me of me when I was in my 20s. I done that kind of stuff. I'm almost 70 now. Now days if it breaks, you throw it away. Terry
