No obnoxiously long selfies. No useless info. Concise and accurate description of various types of plastic and bonding characteristics. Incredibly smooth and fast pace for busy people. Perfect lighting and camera work. You should do tool reviews all day! Best plastic welding video I've found. You should be proud of yourself.

PolyVance has a book for filler rods and tips to use for each application. I use it to repair bumpers and the book comes in handy

did you try using regular filament in it?

Word of advice, put some backing on the pieces so they don't deform. Welding requires you melt the base material otherwise you aren't getting fusion. In metal work, we refer to as brazing instead of welding.

Lindy Design Lab hey, while off topic want to tap your artistic genius if possible. Have you polished metal filament prints? If so how. I put money cat in my vibratory polisher that is use to clean brass for reloading ammo and there were no results of any polishing. Thought it would look nice maybe like a cast statue.

I wonder if there's tips like this for temperature controlled soldering irons. I'll have to look on Ebay or something. That would be the route I would go using regular filament as glue. Otherwise, I can see how this would be very useful with plastics other than 3D printed types. PVC especially is a tricky plastic to get things to bond to besides itself with PVC cement. Great video though!

Have you tried a hot air welder ? The iron/ airless is great but definitely doesn't make for a pretty weld.

Also when you're doing a seam take your time make sure that the plastic you're working on can accept the heat iron then go get your material out of the hot iron then go straight down do a inch or two Wicked straight down trying not to spread it so wide and sparingly when you go to trying different plastic tubing always clean the remainder out with your new tool you made out of your scrap then put the new material in before you start your other projects also The Wider rods use the teardrop total that comes in a case that might work better

Interesting video! Not super happy how they joint come out because anyway will require a lot of sanding to clean up and make it smooth

I'm using a cheap temperature regulated wood burning tool kit (comes with a lot of different shaped tips) and just regular filament for welding or fixing printed parts. I really don't like the way you have to feed your plastic rods thru that "nozzle" on your welder, all I could think about was you burning your fingers at some point. And the burnt plastic kinda indicates that this welder does not have a good temperature regulator. For the price tag of your kit, I would have expected a bit more to be honest. Generally, if you want to weld pieces of printed plastic like this, make shure you print them with enough shells and high infill rates, or the heat will make it too easy to bend everything out of shape. Giving your workpiece some time to cool back down (use a fan to blow on them) can help as well to preserve the form of the original pieces. For bonding PVC pipes, I would try to get some specific PVC-glue (should be available in your local crafts or DIY store). That stuff is awesome because it chemically melts the PVC as bit. Usually PVC glue is based on the chemical Tetrahydrofuran, so it works kinda the same as Acetone does with ABS plastic. (And you can use Tetrahydrofuran to smooth some PLA-mixtures, just like you do with Acetone and ABS...).

Before you weld your PVC pipe and other pieces of plastic always treated with especially polyvance plastic prep sand it down with roughest sandpaper like 50 or 40 clean it again with plastic prep polyvance dry it off for the shop towel then try to bond materials together

Please, get a vise and clamp the parts down. Also, if you could slow down a bit and make progressive material fills, your results will be much stronger and look nicer. Plastic welding rarely gives a pretty smooth result, so have a little patience and you might not have to sand your final joint so much. Good start and keep it up.

My advice to you is to use hot air plastic welding device to make best solid construction bond and then use the airless plastic iron welder with flat leg to smooth the surface and enhance estetic. You can order on Polyvance page iron thin round brushes to clean the hole from black burned plastic remains. Search for this numbers; 6140 and 6141, price is around $6. I use hot air plastic welder Leister Triac Pid with digital temperature adjuster, but you can find on aliexpress the same device with different name with low price.

I'd rather use some adhesive than have my parts look all burnt and gunky. Not a good device

U definitely need more practice with plastic welding. Also just 3d print your own plastic rods for welding. It's very important to use the right welding rod. If your plastic is abs then u must use abs welding rods. If it is PP then u must use PP and so on. U will get the strongest bond that way. Do not mix different types of plastic. Also since I dont have much money I just use a soldering iron with a chisel style tip that I hammered out from a pointed soldering tip an I use various techniques shown here. kzbin.info/aero/PLuNGkitCpD6bHY3bfWKFuTBzLgqzpHH_Z

I also now use a soldering iron primarily. It's great for detail patching and smoothing small 3d prints and seams, and I use the filament straight off the roll or applied with a 3d printing pen, so it's always compatible.
