You've been doing this for years and half the comments are armchair makers saying dumb shit like "you'll get splinters!", "carbon fibre outlet cover why???", "the short is too short!" Its experimentation you morons! Let Lindy cook!

Where do you get your UV protectant from?
@LindyDesignLab2 күн бұрын
I've depended thus far on epoxy that says it has some UV resistance and also N3 Nano coating from Blacktail Studio. I do not currently have personal data for how effective these are.

Epoxy is so dang expensive, I can’t think of anything I’d need so strong I’d be willing to spend the money and time to do that vs printing what I need when I need it. Maybe you can give me some tips on what to make so I have an excuse to do that lol

Thanks for sharing your process! I'd like to work more with fiberglass but every time I reach for my fiberglass-scrap-encrusted tin of resin I'm reminded of what a God awful mess it creates. There's no clean way to do anything involving fiberglass lol.

I can tell you haven’t experienced carbon fiber splinters before , keep mushing down resin like that and you’ll be removing that splinter for a couple years

Bro it's the first layer of wet resin. Only gets sharp after it cures.

Oh and one more thing lol. If you do the mold in the arrangement you have the release agent is still on the part so you should sand it down really well before spraying anything on it or even putting additional coats of epoxy because the release agent is in between and will leave avoid. Maybe having wiped it down with some acetone would ensure you've gotten all your release agent off of the item.
@LilDirt128 күн бұрын
Oh and I forgot to tell you there are additives you can add to your epoxy to make it UV resistant and there's also epoxy with it already in the epoxy but it is more expensive. I found the spray ends up cracking due to the fluctuation of the part itself in the heat and cold and It flexes when on the road or shutting the door.
@LilDirt128 күн бұрын
What will help your final seal or coat seep into the pinholes and smooth everything out put your can into a cup of warm water it warms up the spray helping to make it more fluid. If you don't have access to that then a heat gun works very well keep it at a nice distance about 12 in and sweep back and forth. This warms up the product helping it flow into the pits as well as helping the drawing process. Great video Thank you for sharing. I'm in the process of making a new headliner for my boyfriend's van. I started with regular fiberglass for the main mold and then I will do a layer of carbon fiber last. My mold is backwards of yours. Because the part that is exposed to the eye is the outer area. Thanks for sharing take care
