I know this was 5 years ago but don’t beat yourself up for the paint job or the build. That’s an awesome WSM build. 👏👏👏 Thanks for sharing. Roy Auburn, WA

There are three legs on the smokey joe. I think I will just line up the bolt holes for the tamale pot with the legs on the smokey joe and make my holes around. Awesome build man!

Well Done!! I've never had any interest in making a WSM, until now. My wife and I watched this and now I have to make one (she's egging me on to do it). Keeping an eye out on FB marketplace for a deal.

+mironccr345 lols, I hope you come across a great deal. Thanks!

If you want a probe hole for occasional use, check out the Weber parts page. They sell a silicone grommet for the WSM probe port on the newer models. I've found it for about $11 bucks on Amazon. Just use a stepper bit or hole saw to drill the appropriate hole in your new Mini WSM.

$3.00????? You got that for a steal my friend! And turning it into a smoker.....A+++ for ingenuity man!!! P.S. Hypoglycemic here...I find eating within 30 minutes after waking and consuming 1/2 cup of any type of beans (a slow carb) with breakfast, will nip that in the bud. 😁

great video! but does everyone know you can buy coal baskets that make the kettle an indirect smoker without all the fuss? And a top grate that hinges over the coal baskets???
@MarkInThePit4 жыл бұрын
On something this small one of those charcoal baskets won't make much of a difference. They do work pretty good on a full sized kettle though by keeping the heat off to one side.

Love this one. Will a regular pie dish do, they are mine so I can use then :) or a pizza dish
@MarkInThePit4 жыл бұрын
A pie dish should be fine, a small pizza pan would be even better.

Make one last year ( it my profile pic) used it on brisket point and did some chicken camping, and then it was crushed by my sons bike coming home from camping. It worked great the two times i used it though!

31.30 what was that you had on your phone? GreatEr it help blow air in fire? Great make what about 13" pizza stone for great deflector? Thank God everything in the kitchen is mine so husband is not going to say NO to me using any pans lol
@MarkInThePit4 жыл бұрын
That was a micro USB cooling fan. Found it on amazon for like $3. Great idea for the pizza stone, that would probably work out very well. Just need to make sure there is still enough air flow to get around it.

Didn't catch that in the video. Yes, I have issues with hypoglycemia which started around the same time I started having thyroid issues, so when I start feeling woobly I'll check. I feel it more often in the morning hours.

*The water pan/ drip pan is your heat diffuser, 🙄. I don't think you know the 3 laws of thermodynamics.*
@MarkInThePit4 жыл бұрын
You are correct sir! BUT what I meant was that the heat would be spread around and not just go strait up the middle.

Aluminum not healthy
@MarkInThePit5 жыл бұрын
I agree, also there is aluminum in almost everything now a-days. One thing to note though, after the first few burn cycles it does get coated with smoke, ash, fat, grease, which is then cured to some extent and is no longer exposed. Also the grates themselves are stainless steel so nothing aluminum directly touches the food.
