Thank you - very useful video. I have experimented with making miniature books and now start with scoring (using a fine-tipped scoring tool) a full A4 sheet to create the folds of the pages. Then, using a guillotine, I cut strips to the desired width and length and fold concertina style on the score lines. It’s a speedier and accurate approach. Hope this helps.

Hi! Thank you for your tips! I’ve taken to cutting my strips of paper on a cricut machine and it speeds the process along for something this scale. I try to stick to showing you how you can do the projects at home without needing to buy a lot of extra equipment so it becomes accessible to more people. Hope this explains why I do it by hand in the video.

Hey there….. you are a GEM! What a talented lady!!! My question to you is: how the heck do you set your pieces of wood to line up so precise? I've been making miniatures for over 30 years and I have never seen the exact fitting you obtain with every piece you put together and corners meet so precise…. right angles look perfect. please let me know what you use as far as tools and what types of wood. Thank you, Diane USA NJ

Hi! I’m so happy you like my videos and find them helpful! I’m sorry to say that I don’t have a magic tool that I use. My tip would be that I always measure twice and try to be as precise as possible. I find it most helpful to work with centimeters and millimeters in such a small scale so I always use a metric ruler when I make my projects. Any time you see me working with wood it’s almost always balsa wood. I hope this helps!

What size do you make the covers and spines? I'm trying to make some and I can't find spines :(
@Craftish
@Craftish Жыл бұрын
Hi! I googled what the standard sizes for books were and went with the one I liked the best. The width of the book will depend on the dimensions of the cover image but I made sure to keep the hight the same. Yes, spines are really hard to find in some cases! I googled the book name and then I sometimes only had the option to crop the spine off of an image of a book stack. Like the book covers, the width of the spine will depend on the book so they all end up different sizes.

I couldn’t get a good clip of it as the shelves were blocking the view of what I was doing from the camera, but I show how to do it in my kitchen tutorial with the doors under the sink. It’s the exact same process.

Can you also use paper for the shelves and just make the paper thicker by layering it
@Craftish
@Craftish 3 ай бұрын
You could definitely do that. I would suggest layering cardstock or cereal boxes as they are thicker and will use less paper/take less time to build up.

How do you know what size to scale the books to once you put them in Word? I know how to change the size I just don't know what the proper scale is. Thanks for your help in advance -- if you have a chance to respond.
@Craftish
@Craftish 6 ай бұрын
Hi! It’s totally up to you! Different countries have different sizing on their books, so you could search what the standard is where you live, or measure one of your own books to see the scale. The same book can come in plenty of different sizes so it’s really a matter of preference! I just made sure to have all of mine be the same height to get a clean uniform look to them. Hope this helps!

You keep saying you "made" the shelves or "made" sides. I thought this video was going to show HOW you "made" this thing not how you "assembled" it.
@Craftish
@Craftish 9 ай бұрын
Yes, I do say that I “made” the shelves instead of saying that I “cut out the shelves with my x-across knife”. I have 41 videos so far and it gets a bit redundant after a while of showing how to cut something and adds unnecessary time to the video. If you want to see a video where I cut something out with the xacto knife you can watch my “miniature door tutorial” or most of my early videos.
@Abby_W
@Abby_W 5 ай бұрын
I completely agree. It is really frustrating to have a video with the word "tutorial" in the title and it doesn't actually show you how to make it. I don't want to have to filter through a bunch of videos just to find the one that shows me how to make hinges for the cabinet when they could've just included it in the video.
