I would really like to master the art of micro crochet. I find these tiny granny squares adorable, and every Barbie doll needs an afghan for her bed. :D

We called a little scraps of leftover thread, orts ! My grandmother gave me a hair receiver, just a little box with a hole in the center so when you brush your hair and pull it out, you push it into this little box to save for whatever the hair craft was called, people made a little tiny flowers in braids and things, and they were put in a little glass brooch with a slightly domed lid. I have crocheted with human hair one time when I had very long hair. Mostly, I only did Crosstitch and crochet as a little child .

I love your all your cross stitches you did. Your tutorial on crocheting in small scale is great. I definitely want to try it out. Thank you for sharing 😊

Thank you Julie, I had not thought of using embroidery thread for crochet work. You have also given me the idea to use my left over thread when I have finished a piece of lace as I always wind too much on my bobbins.

I have just learned to crochet so that I can do miniature pieces but wasn’t looking forward to purchasing whole balls to use so little of each color. After watching this video I’m thrilled to be able to use the embroidery thread I already have! Thank you so much for this video as well as your other videos. I really enjoy them!

I was addicted to cross stitch for a couple of years, but I never tried anything like what you've accomplished--beautiful work! During a move I lost my old stash of DMC thread, and it was so beautifully organized, a rare feat for me! As for mini crochet, I've done a few potholders, nothing like your work. I've also tried my hand at miniature knitting and weaving, with some success but probably not true to scale. Anyway, thanks for another great tutorial!

I created a couple of cross stitch pieces from different patterns put together. My greatest pleasure was creating the 23rd psalm surrounded with a border with lambs in each corner. My dad's name across the top and his DOB & death date. Across the bottom said. "son, brother, husband, and father". I gave it to my grandmother as she outlived her oldest son. ( my brother now has it)

Hi Julie, the first cross stitch picture with the blue china is my absolute favorite! In fact years ago I tried to find the same one to cross stitch myself, but never found it even on line. Your crocheting with just one tiny thread is a great way to make things for a dollhouse! I might just give it a try because I like to crochet too! But boy is it tiny! 😄💜

I bought the dresser cross stitch about 25 years ago I think, I loved it as soon as I saw it. I'm on the lookout for a nice dolls house cross stitch kit, but they all look a little bit cartoony! I do hope you'll give the single strand crochet a try. xx

I've been using embroidery floss for mini blankets for several years now. I usually use 2 strands with a 0.75 hook because I find it quicker and less fiddly than one strand. I have now graduated from granny squares to mosaic overlay and I have also made a version of Sophie's Universe. Like you I also started with left overs from cross stitch kits

Thank you Julie for another brilliant tutorial. I will certainly give this a try. I have only just graduated to a 0.5 crochet hook so I will need a little more practice first. Miniature crochet certainly needs a lot of patience and practice but it is surprising how if you keep trying it works and so satisfying. I just love your videos. 💕

Really good information I haven’t done micro crochet in many years I’m 69 now I’m going to practice with number 10 crochet cotton. I figure I can do all white or ecru and make a little doilies and bedspreads while I practice.

DMC Cordonnet 80 is tatting thread, just in case you go looking for it. A local artisan used 50 wt. for all her doilies as well.

I used embroidery floss to get as small as I could, of course nowhere near as tiny as you did but I dont mind a bed throw or rug being slightly out of scale as it didn't seem to show so much if it isnt granny squares. I am still trying though! 0.6 and 0.75 is sort of where I am at just now so theres hope for my ancient eyesight yet!

Now... if I could get my eyes to cooperate. I just got a huge bunch ( like 2 , one gallon zip bags stuffed) at a yard sale of bobbins of embroidery thread.

I have been crocheting lately with a E crochet hook. Would this be too large for DMC embroidery floss?
@JulieWarren
@JulieWarren 9 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what size E is, but give it a go. If you find it's too baggy, you will need to downsize your hook. I use a 0.5mm (No. 22) hook. :)
@elizabetholiviaclark
@elizabetholiviaclark 8 ай бұрын
@@JulieWarren I think they were talking about a 3.5 mm hook, or US size E. I rather wish, for everyone's sake everywhere, that the crochet world would make hook sizes (and names of stitches as well) global industry standards. In the case of names of stitches, it would certainly make life easier for those of you who are kind enough to make crochet tutorials.
@elizabetholiviaclark

I know I'm late, but I just replied to Julie that I thought you were talking about a 3.5 mm hook, so a bit large for floss.

How do you know how many mm each square is going to be? Is there an equation you have which relates hook size and stitch type?
@HagarenoBoyo
@HagarenoBoyo Жыл бұрын
I have a question, I have 0.75 mm hook and I want to make flowers for corsages for my wedding. Should I still use 1 single thread or two, maybe three? I don't know if 1 thread will be too thin for flowers and might give too many gaps.
@JulieWarren
@JulieWarren Жыл бұрын
With a 0.75mm hook, I would recommend a thicker thread. :)

Notice she doesn’t give pattern to begin center! As an old crocheter, am able to figure it out, but it’s not fair to younger gals to not furnish rest of pattern!
