Blasting rocks with mini dynamite on our opal claim with this miniature dynamite system called the Micro Blaster to free up opals. This early winter trip with the family was a fun way to spent the Saturday after the first snow fall of the year opal hunting. We got to play with the jack hammer breaking up the bedrock, and also the micro blaster. The microblaster fractures the bedrock so it is easy to remove and sort through looking for opals. Most opals from this site are just common opal with some agate, but the rare find has some play of color in some precious opal. Eval love digging for opals, actually we all do. And blasting rocks with this mini dynamite makes it a lot easier.
This video is produced by Dan Hurd, Prospector, Miner, Teacher and KZbinr, as part of his KZbin channel based on educational videos about gold mining, gold panning, prospecting, rock hounding, and mineral collecting.

That mini blast reminds me when I was a kid, my grandpa owned a rock quarry in the Nevada desert. One time he overestimated the charge and we hid under the truck as grapefruit sized chunks of rock rained down all around us.

Yes! I'm not the only person who does this! Some of my friends and my neighbours most of all think I'm weird when they see me scrounging in the drive way for little opals. I was walking down the driveway one day and a purple/bluish glint caught my eye. I've found some nice quality ones but they are pretty small, nowhere near the size of the ones you're finding. I thought there was treasure everywhere when I started finding lost rings and even gems that had fallen off rings, all in the driveway, they turned out to be my sister's ring and a gem from my bros gf ring. But now I notice sparkly things everywhere!😂😂

Hey Dan great video mate, that's an interesting way to get opals I own 2 opal mines here in Australia. The opal you call common opal we call potch it's basically unformed opal or colorless opal, also our opal color is formed on top of or in the middle of potch, the darker the potch means the color patterns of the opal will be brighter rendering the stone more valuable then if it was set in a standard white or grey color, potch is a large determining factor in the value of the opal .We look for black potch with color or commonly known as (black opal) it has sold for as high as $45000 per carrot for a gem quality stone. 😊😊😊😊

You are a great dad. If more parents were like you and get these kids out and appreciate the things like nature and family, we would not be in the mess we are today. Great video. I subbed you. Cheers.
