I know so many “mostly agate” rockhounding channels, but I have never seen even a SINGLE one of them, actually mine them out of bedrock. Good job

I am an older (over 50) college student in my 2nd year. I came across your youtube channel by accident, when I was researching minerals that my Geology professor was talking about, so have a visual. I actually put your channel on my watch later. Once I watched the video with the ocean view ones that you were digging up, I got hooked and went back and watched all your old videos including the ones of you teaching your students. I also have my daughter interested in looking too. our goal is our backyard because the area where we live used to be a river, we find all kinds of things in our backyard and in the woods that still have water running underground. Thank you for your videos. They helped me a lot in understanding geology, minerals, rock and gems. I have even sent my professor your link.

You are just such a blessing to watch Dan! I kept thinking how funny it would look to someone who may just be hiking by seeing you in the water you are crawling around they have ZERO clue what you may be doing.. lol But really, what you have brought together for your family, having that claim you can go to and work the many different minerals of the earth and bring them along has got to be the biggest life blessing of all time. Just to spend time with one another out in Nature in an age where most kids just want to sit on a computer or gaming console. Much love and respect to you, Sir, and your family.

Great video, love the family vibe. Some nice stones there Dan. I didnt know much about Agate, so had a little look. Plenty to choose from out there, but looks like its about $5 to $10 a pound depending on origin and colour. Must of been a fair bit in the bucket and bag, given some of those pieces looked a decent size. Not a bad days work and a fun day too if you can make memories and pocket around $75 on a good day. Certainly pays for the day out, gas etc and great to spend the day with the wife and kids.

When I was a kid, there was a recently closed railroad close by to home and the ballast they had used on it was full of agates. You could fill a bucket with them if you wanted to. Now if you visit you can't find anything because they scraped it all up and replaced it with sandy gravel to make a biking surface which became overgrown due to lack of use. Now its choked solid with trees.

Always good, to see you and the family working together... Good the boys have taken an interest in your mining and panning world. Kids usually run in any other direction, than the one you choose. Hey! I noticed when you first went into the water with the camera, there were some very beautiful blue and green and other colors, of just stones... You can put those pretty colors in a rock polisher and then sell them too! People buy rocks all the time, after they've been run through a rock polisher! Nice $$$! You can sell them by the numbers, like, 10 for whatever price you ask. Or sell them by the weight! You'd be surprised at just how wonderful a plain piece of common gravel appears after being polished!

Every one of your videos literally just brings me a lot of joy. I’ve always loved rocks and stones. Even as a kid, I’d collect them in old cleaned out plastic ice cream containers. Lol. Didn’t matter if they were pretty or ugly and so “normal” I’d collect and keep so many of them. Thanks for doing what you do and bringing my inner childhood out! And thanks for getting me back into a hobby that moves me to be outside and hike, and explore, and just go do stuff. Lol. Love your videos! You have a wonderful family, and a great attitude!
