Many, Many years ago when I saw this technique on KZbin, I brought up this technique with another hobbyist when we were discussing painting. We both laugh because it seems too complicated to use for small details such as Space Marine. I am glad to see that we were wrong and that it has since become a tool within our hobby toolbox.

Yeah flat surfaces come out great, complicated models would result in gaps, I did try this out on a marine and it wasnt too bad but the dipping ink is quite thick so some of the detail in the marine was lost but as always its great to try out new things and see what the results are 🙂

Wouldn't it be easier to spray the entire tank yellow and then make black and transparant swirls to create the same effect. Except that there won't be any white spots left

if you base coated them in a color you could have a third color present in the camo and wouldnt have to fix afterwards

I wonder, if you deliberately left gaps and worked over a certain basecoat, could it result in a more camouflage pattern? Like say you had a black and green over brown for a woodland look, or used blue and grey over white for an urban/snow?
@MiniatureHobbyist

Yup that would work, there is a clear dipping ink that came with the set that would help you see the original colour 🙂

Holy resolution, dude. I haven't yet got into 3D printing because I kinda have a problem with getting obsessed with projects and that realm of tech would most likely completely consume me, but I didn't even know that there are printers that can pull that off. Fascinating...

The drybrush does bring everything together. I think the black ink is a bit too intense though, a darker grey would make it feel less cartoony.

It certainly looks good, but I'd appreciate a closer look to see how well the shape of the miniature is retained. In a few of the shots of the still wet inks, it seems like it's very blobby and thick, coating the surface details. In later shots when they are dried, I can't really make it out either.

For really small magnets like the one you put in the turret of that first tank, I find it easier to just use a paperclip rather than a magnet applicator, which might have too strong a pull on the magnet. Also less risk of gluing the magnet to the applicator.

I feel the failed prints thingy. I got into SLA printing in June and I haven't had any failed prints since I dialed it in until late November and the last two I tried both failed, I think it's because it's too cold in the basement. I have a space heater somewhere I have to find to see if that'll help. These turned out great and I wish I would have tried these on my Catachan legs before I assembled and painted them.

One thing I’m wondering, because I always see hydro dipping used to make swirly psychedelic paint jobs, but can it be used to make a uniform coat of one single color ? As I see it, n theory, the coating should be very uniform and smooth. Of course, this wouldn’t work well on highly detailed objects like those figurines, but what if I use it to paint panels from a model car for example ? Could it be an alternative to spray paint ?
@Ninjorz
@Ninjorz 5 ай бұрын
There's really no need to do that spastic swirling after ever dip. Just dip it, pull it out, add some more ink, do another dip. Another trick, for something like what you're doing here, would be to simply paint the tanks in the orangy-yellow, and then simply dip into black stripes. You'll get a much more complete paint job that way, without white spots.

man, I love those tanks ;) @dipping: really wanna try it, so thx for this video! here's 2 questions: -wouldn't a basecoat (say of yellow) solve your white-spot-problem in the first place? or maybe a different color so you could have 3 colors effectively? -how are the details, say on the gobbo-driver? I'm a bit scared that the dipping clogs the details up. is that a thing or not? again: thx for this great vid and the great inspiration! :)
