Its really up to the handler, I teach and have a SD but during recess her harness comes off and shes allowed to interact with the kids and have some positive dog time. Once recess ends, back goes the harness and shes back to work, all the kids know and understand that miss Beccas dog is only to be pet when naked and outside on playground and to always ask before talking to or petting any dog. I understand that no one may pet your dog, thats your decision to make and perhaps it makes it easier so that your peers dont bother your dog in the school, I suppose as a teacher, students already respect and listen to the me so its never been an issue.

Ok this is a lot of useless conflict. The thing is that the vest is off and they were obviously told that they could pet it at that time. Notice the wanted to touch it but never did when the vest is off. They have some self control and knowledge of what’s going on and most kids know to ask before petting any animal out with a person , vested or not. I’m only saying that since it’s their animal in a second grade class with kids showing such good restraint that it’s the handlers (the person who brought him in) choice if they want the animal to be pet.

@Cassandra Lentsch Statement from differencebetween.com: Height should not be the only determining factor between a horse and pony for the following reasons. The Shetland pony is about 10 hands tall and is still considered a pony while miniature horse breeds such as Falabella, which are not taller than 30 inches, are still known as very small horses, not ponies. The classification is decided by considering other factors too, which were discussed in the article such as temperament, appearance, stature, etc.

Being in a classroom/bedroom/home (if they are service animals, that is what they may end up doing/having to do to help someone with a disability) can be hard for them, especially if they must do it constantly. You have to remember that horses, especially the mini ones are not like dogs. They don't react the same way to being petted and touched. The way horses are taught is different to dogs as well. A pony that is stressed does not doze but would be constantly alert (it was sleeping in the class room). Horses are basically lion food, so when they feel comfortable and safe and relaxed they like to sleep. And yes the sleep also on their feet standing up. If you look closely, you will notice the pony is friends with the boy. Ponies do not let just anyone to touch their heads that way as the boy and the pony did so trustingly.

You need to check out a video where horses groom each others manes and coats. Those tiny hands pulling on the mane does not hurt. Ponies have their own personalities and this one is suited for service job. Not even all dogs are suited to service job, so it is the same with ponies, there is a lot of differences between animals. I am so angry! Any horse or pony needs constant hay or grass to chew and water! Horses graze up to 18 hours per day and no matter where they are they must be given this option! If not it causes severe damage to to the hind gut(they have 2) it can cause colic, stress, behavioural problems! Great for the kids! Awful for the poor pony! Even if on a diet you double net the hay and soak it to reduce calorific intake! And what was wrong with the ponies eye, it was constantly weeping, looked like he was blind in the one eye, or eye infection.
@heidikarinen5635 жыл бұрын
If you would give this pony constant access grass it would get very sick. Her need for energy intake is not as much as with big horses. And the work load with these little ponies is not the same. This one does not carry the rider or pull a cart. And most likely is of a more placid sort so not athletic, so does not even want to run on its own accord so much. And there is no information how long the school days are for the boy. And how the pony is being fed. Definitely she is bit chubby, and has gotten food. Too much actually, so it is good it has something else to do to keep it distracted from eating all the time. What is exactly what all ponies would indeed do given the chance, and that is actually when they get very seriously sick. The same metabolism problems ails them as humans who eat too much too. Sometimes ponies can get eye infections, for various reasons. They live outdoors, with insects, wind, rain, dirt. The normal pony life so eye infections can happen. (It could be just the draft in the trailer that got the eye running suddenly. The handler just need to close the windows in the trailer and the problem might be solved with that). Looking after horses and ponies takes a lot of knowledge and experience. This pony looks very happy with his boy.

Southern Comfort the fact all the kids to to the pony to touch him/her is rude because it it's a service animal you cannot touch or speak with the animal or the human
@alyssabosch67266 жыл бұрын
Bidybab SI I agree with you on the not distracting a service animal but I did notice the pony did not have its gear on, which is often a signal to service animals they are not on duty,so it might have been a moment for the children to ease their curiosity without distracting him when he was urgently needed.
@bidybabsl52256 жыл бұрын
Omg if it's off duty it would be at home being a normal long but if it's in public its on duty also you DON'T NEED A VEST FOR IT TO BE ON DUTY!

Harleyquinn Gaming, horses stand around all day anyway. They aren’t meant to be lying down for long periods of time. Their organs can collapse if they do.

kroakie4 but they are grazing animals. I wander what the effect of restricting the time allowed to eat would have on a horse/pony

Why don't you agree with petting service animals? They are most worthy of being petted with the incredible job they do.
@katblack256 жыл бұрын
Before making comments on horses and service animals like that, you SHOULD do what you were taught in school. Research and get the facts. Horses that are not wild are fed twice a day, morning and night; Rich hay and grain depending on health, needs, and breed. Yes that matters. Service animals, correct, SOME you never ever pet while they are with their person. When their service ATTIRE is off, such as a vest, then you can pet them with permission. The animal expects it in fact, it tells them it's their turn for love. The best service animals are those that are pack or herd animals so they are very social and community minded. They NEED physical attention, sometimes MORE then people because that's the way animals are. And last most people tend to ignore this there ARE service animals who job is to be PETTED, FUSSED OVER, and be in CONSTANT CONTACT with their person. Very often their person will encourage others to pet. Not only good for them on many levels, ex. more socialization, but good for the animal too. Next time do the research! I have a horse, worked with the special needs and I still make a point of researching anything new. DON'T state it as fact unless you have the facts.

I don’t like that she’s not educating kids not to distract, and I don’t like that she’s working a horse that’s blind in 1 eye, I don’t think this horse is suitable for the job, and if she’s not setting the tone for how to behave around a service animal the poor kid and his horse will never be given any space.

I have problems with this looking at the little horse. She doesn't belong in a classroom staying there all the time. It's still a horse eventhough I understand why it's there. Still, looking from the horse it must be stressful and not healthy, mentally and physically. Also a horse needs to eat all day, not just when humans think it's ok. It's not good for their digesting system.

This is animal abuse and a bunch of little kids should not be touching a service animal you don't see any adults or any other little kids touching a service dog or other service animal this is not okay
@goob276 жыл бұрын
Sicily Rose The owners of the animal were around, her vest was not on, clearly all the kids in the class had permission to pet her. It's also not animal abuse, they were simply petting her and braiding her mane. Her ears were back because she was focused on what was happening behind her, her facial expression held no tension or anger. While you are correct in that you should never pet a service animal without expressed permission, they were allowed to.

JakeyandBolt The horse is a trained service animal and knows how to behave in loud situations. There is nothing wrong with kids petting the horse if the owner allows it and the horse isn’t actively working.
@jakeyandbolt32595 жыл бұрын
whomst well even if it is trained it still could get scared I’ve been doing horse riding for three years I know what I’m talking about so yeah it’s only a pony just a little one yes I know those are the ones that get trained but what if they touch the pony the wrong way ? So yeah .
@Iceblinkwolfsong5 жыл бұрын
JakeyandBolt No... a trained service animal is absolutely bombproof. You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve been riding horses for 12 years and have been a service animal handler and trainer for 3 years. Service animals are trained for every situation. They are trained that whenever they get pet or slapped or their tail pulled or whatever they get a treat so if a kid hits them they know not to freak out. If a service animal isn’t bombproof and fearful at every situation, they can’t be in public.
