Me and my family fostered four puppies in the past for 4 Paws for Ability, a local non-profit that trains service dogs for kids. I teared up a little when Kaya met her old family again because it reminded me of when I got to see some of our dogs at graduation. It's hard to say goodbye but so worth it, knowing they help kids and their families so much!

k9 unit dogs won't attack anything without the command, so that information is wrong. Also, if they get adopted, it's usually to people that have a lot of experience with dogs, especially dogs trained the the k9 units.
@thatonedog8196 жыл бұрын
Raven C dogs that wash out are awesome dogs! They usually wash for lack of drive which makes them good service dogs a lot of time. It's when they get on the force that becomes a problem because the police don't keep up on the training. An experienced dog trainer could handle a dog like that and get them back on the right track with no problem. They probably would never make good dogs for people with no experience with the breed or as a family pet, but for someone like me who is used to high drive dogs would have an easy time with them.

A lot of people owner train their service dogs as well. Where they work with a private trainer or by themselves. The dogs in the video are considered “program” dogs and are usually more difficult or expensive to obtain. They are just one of the many ways people obtain service dogs.

Belen Ruiz ...or she can be owner training.
@carriehollyland35969 ай бұрын
U do understand that not all service dog come from programs, and that here r more than just one service dog program, right? Service dogs can be program trained, private professional trained, or owner trained. Handlers who get dogs from programs r getting dogs that r already fully trained. If the handler u know has a dog that is being service trained for herself, then she is either going the route of a private professional trainer, or owner training.

As someone with a now retired service dog, I love this new series! Thank you for being so thorough and recognizing all the different sizes, shapes and jobs of service dogs! One thing though, when you were introducing Mr.Pip you mentioned little dogs can comfort those with anxiety. Please be clear that comfort alone is not a service dog task. A dog that solely provides comfort to a person with a disability is an Emotional Support Animal. ESAs do not have public access rights like a service dog. Other than that, great job!

if anxiety is your only disability than your dog is being trained to be an emotional support animal and wouldn’t have rights to be in public. learn the law
@riversong61416 жыл бұрын
sarah young, actually no, anxiety is her alert. She helps me with anxiety, depression I'll start scratching myself, or I won't be able to get up, she'll get medication and water for that, I also have momments of black out in large crowds which she will snap me out of, and and she will also be trained to remind me to take medication as well as block from crowds, DPT, Ext. But sense anxiety is her alert, she is called an anxiety alert dog. Just to keep the name short. 😂
@carriehollyland35969 ай бұрын
@@sarahyoung8724 wrong. First of all, ESAs require no training. Secondly the ADA does recognize severe anxiety disorders as a disability. And it is a disability that service dogs can be trained to help with.
