Miniature Still Life Photography Experiment

Would a gradient work with a white background, and then 2 bright light sources out of view shining on the bottom half and top half of the background with varying sunset colors?

While editing this I was thinking a type of white rice paper would also work with a bright light shining at the back of it, the hotspot can be the sun and then It will/might create the gradient required. Your suggestion might also do the trick, more excuses to do this again. Appreciate the suggestion!
