On the minimal phone discord, the founders said what will be happening with those 100 units. The manufacturers kept 80 in China for lab testing, and 20 are with the founders for internal testing and to send to youtubers for reviews.

Phisical keyboard is also good to setup shortcuts. Not having to pull settings to activate wifi is nice, just fn 1. Or launch apps, or whatever. Also you avoid all virtual keyboard awkward interactions, like having to close the keyboard to be able to click that green button on the bottom of the page

It's been extremely maddening for me when I try to type on a touchscreen and the phone thinks I picked a word from the predicted text options rather than the letter 'p' or some other letter at the top row. Physical keyboards for me please.

I'm loving this idea. I'm a huge fan of e-ink FOR READING and as a user of many text apps (like WhatsApp, Trello, Google Gemini, etc) I love the idea of having a real physical keyboard as it's been kinda difficult for me to type lately on my iPhone (idk why, my thumbs might be getting dumber, I guess). I'm looking for a device that allows me to work completely focused without the disturb of social media (even though I work with social media) and KZbin (my current obsession and time eater). Looking forward to see more of this device and (probably) get it.

I pre order already the LP3 but this looks pretty good as well. For me the ink display, the size and the company made me go for the light phone.

It's not a stupid question. Yes it will have KZbin but it will be boly black and white. It will also be a bit strange since e-ink refreshes often and the screen will flash a lot to keep up with the dynamic content.

@@LauraMalvoyante Thanks for the reply. In my opinion it's a shame that some features are so limited. The design is nice, the keyboard seems functional and the idea seems great, but perhaps the limitations are a little too much for me. I'm desperately looking for a replacement for my BB Passport, but so far nothing comes close. Let's hope that in the future someone will take inspiration from this splendid phone.

It looks good but ive always been a light phone guy my current device is a light phone 2 and i preordered the light phone 3 to me the light team has proven they make good devices and do 5 plus years of OS updates they are still updating the LP2 to this day so they are the company i trust

I am backing the Light Phone for those reasons as well. I like all these new devices coming out that will hopefully get people to think outside the box when it comes to supporting different companies and philosophies.

Laura, I have greatly appreciated your insightful and perceptive comments regarding each of your roll out reviews about this phone. I’m ready to buy, but I do have a question that many people will be asking who are seeking a phone of this type and I would value your opinion. In my case (and I suspect MANY other people), I have struggled in the past with phone addictions including porn addiction, doom scrolling addiction, etc. Is this the best option, or would you recommend a different solution which would allow apps necessary for work, music for my soul, and limitations for my spirit. 😁

@@chuckferraro2738 as someone who is struggles daily with smartphone and doomscrolling addiction I don't think this device would be the best option. I myself am a bit extreme and try to use a minimalist or a very dumb phone. But if you absolutely need to have specific apps for your job this would be better than a traditional smartphone. Content consumption in general is a lot less satisfying on e-ink devices in my experience. You can also install a minimalist launcher to make the device less tempting. It's really hard to choose the best device since everyone needs something specific. Some devices are more restrictive but overall it's a good starting point into digital minimalism.

Thank you for this thorough reply! What would your suggestion be if I didn’t need any specific apps at all? I do have the option of using my computer for any applications required and then just keep my phone as it’s basic uses such as phone, text, maps, etc.

I'm following closely. The lightphone II was useless to me (does anyone here want to buy one? :D ) The Mudita kompact will be as limited, and I love eink, so this is one is the one to look for. That said, I have also bought phones from new companies in the past and they never give the same level of polish as established brands do. So I will wait for the reviews and for people to use these for a while.

If you're expecting this phone to have the same polish as a flagship phone from Samsung or Apple, then of course you will be disappointed. This phone will do what it needs to do, nothing more. It's in the name, Minimal Phone.

In e-ink devices you can't officially have google play services. These devices are not certified by google. That's why eink with google play is a sham.

@@detlefmogl1770 Yes you are right but as a non-commercial user. If you sell a phone with google play as shown here then you are violating the terms of agreement. That's why I'm surprised that officially here they show that they support “google play” and sell it. Unless it's going to be some semi-legal shipping from China.

@@fallchloe This is not the official version. It's just that “someone” is uploading the google play version to eink. There is a google official page where you can check the official phones that are supported by google play.
