I do decluttering onb a regular basis. Last year I did the 30 day minimalism challenge twice and decluttered about 600 items from our home, like clothes, books, kitchen stuff, art supplies I did not use anymore. This summer we moved, and some more items went out. I think about what I need when it comes to clothes, and I sort out clothes I do not feel comfotable in anymore. I absolutely needed the reminder about not to buy unhealthy junk foood anymore. I ahve the habit of emotional eating myself and gained some weight during the pandemic, which is hard to get rid of when you eat chocolate and crisps on a regular basis. Sigh. I now try it your way: what's not in the house will not be there to eat. And I love what you said about excercising. I did spinning classes for about one and a half year until my body told me in a very rude way that I shoud stop them. So I skipped from overdoing myself with hard cardio training back to Body Balance classes and light weight training, wich I like a lot more - I feel that this kind of excercise has a positive impact on my body. Plus, I check how I feel during my period and skip those classes when I don't feel good enough. And I stopped forcing myself to learn to play the guitar because literally everyone around me does that, and bought myself a ukulele (and got two more as a gift from my hubby). And I have so much fun. :)

I’m really appreciating your videos. I am 6 months post-major surgery, having a big clear out and have started meditating. I feel like the clear out has ‘unstuck’ me and made me ready to move on from a really bad year. I tend to ruminate on negative stories in my head, blowing ‘bad’ things out of proportion, so meditation (okay, really I just stare at the beach video on the Calm app & try to calm my mind) really works. Your videos have been a huge help in letting me move forward with my life now. Thank you, Vera!

I've been doing a similar kind of one important thing a day, spreading things out to different days. That has been helpful now that I can only walk a couple miles a day before my arthritis acts up. Another thing I do is to break one hard task down to several easy steps. I do one step, then find I can do another step or two right after it, and then the big task is either finished or half finished and I've accomplished something.

I sort of did the opposite with my to-do list... I've started to put EVERYTHING on (even like "take a shower"). It helps me feel at peace more because I feel like everything is taken care of, I just need to consult the list. But I have 2 lists - one is the "needs to get done today"-list (which is similar to yours) and the other is the "i don't want to forget to do that, but doesn't have to get done today"-list that just calms my mind

The garden in my mind is relatable. Not only are there plants to thin out but seeds to discard. I am reminded of heirloom seeds, the pure seeds that have been passed down through the ages because they are pure and unadulterated from chemicals and other harmful means of change.GMOs remind me of anxiety, hate and evil. Our power need purity.

🍵🍵🙏🏻 practicing mindfulness has helped me tremendously in acknowledging transitions in the day. I’ve learned long ago that transitions are challenging to me, mindfulness and connecting to the breathe grounds my energy, recharges me- literally and figuratively awards a bit of breathing room, time, and space among daily activities, thoughts, interactions. Also, during times of stress or insecurity, mindfulness eases the critic and cynic in myself. Thank you Vera and friends- take good care ❤

I love your concept of Most Important Task. For me, that's often the most dreaded task! Haha. But I completely agree, when you complete that one big thing (earlier in the day) it's a great feeling. In terms of consumerism, a cute phrase I learned is "____ peace" like some people love buying bags and once you have plenty, you have purse peace. I'm at the point where I have peace with my belongings and when I see something I want, I question how much I really want or need that new thing. Would I still like that new item in 3 or 5 years.

To balance my tasks for the week, I make 2 lists. One is the to do for the day: the other is tasks I want to do for the week. Each day, I create a new to-do for the day and add one or 2 from the want to do list. Time can be balanced better with having regular breaks. I feel happy and not stressed. Your tips are a great encouraging reminder that the balance of rest and fun times with the to-do list works ❤

Hey Vera! Great video. I have to say my interpretation or understanding of mindfulness is prayer and biblical meditation. When I get into prayer in my morning quiet time it helps me release any internal burdens I may have and invite both peace and joy. It really is a blessing. I think I will also try having a tall glass of water after just waking up and see how that goes. Take care!

Thank you so much for your videos and good ideas. Thich Nhat Hanh was such a great teacher. Such a beautiful, compassionate and wise soul. He had really been through it too! (He was in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and was helping people from both sides, even though, unfortunately his brother was killed by American soldiers. He walked through the emotions and still helped people no matter what side they were from. He has really been through it and has seen and experienced many things, yet chose compassion. This is all such wonderful common sense!! The only thing I would add is that there actually are “bad foods” However, if you are eating real food that comes from nature, then I would agree with that; however, there is so much processed and ultra, processed and just fake food now that people are eating, and we are learning how incredibly destructive that is to human health. Increasingly. Increasingly, people are becoming aware of this; however, unfortunately. Many still are not, and they are suffering the consequences, something that will get worse over time.

Well said ! Also , it is never too late to make changes in our food choices . Even when done gradually , the changes for the better in our mental & physical health will soon be apparent . Read a label , find a healthy substitute for one thing at a time , ask if a food choice is " fuel " so the body works more efficiently , etc. 🥰

🍵🍵 I’m still decluttering my home and would like to implement all of the things you are talking about. I already wake up very slowly and peacefully for years and I must say that I have a very long to do list, but only do whatever I feel like doing. Every little thing that I can cross off the list makes me feel better, but it is a never ending to do list, so not just for 1 day. I just write down everything that I think of, it is more like a braindump, and just try to start at the top of the list but when there is something that I really don’t have the energy for that day I will just skip it and try it another day. It doesn’t give me the feeling of pressure to see this long list, it just gives me peace of mind to put it all down on paper.

I love the idea of letting my home tell me what to buy, this resonated with me because I recently moved and I had to buy everything from furniture to dishes and I have been trying to be mindful of not buying too much “stuff” and it is really easy to overbuy so I’ve been doing it slowly to see what I feel I’m missing and then I’ll go and buy that thing. There is always something that you’re going to like when you shop, for instance I bought some dishes and when I was shopping for a vase I seen some other dishes that I immediately loved and made me second guess what I already had but when I got home I immediately was very happy with the ones I had, they made me happy just looking at them, so I realize that that will always happen so it makes it easier now because I’m aware of it. I am loving your new home Vera, it seems so much cozier and warmer 🪴🍵

🍵 Great video Vera! I have been decluttering for about 5 months now. I have moved through the items of many areas of my life; massage table, essential oils, affirmation decks from when I was a masseuse, Dance gear, music collection/ instruments etc from my performer/ dance teacher days, wardrobe declutter: either too dressy, fussy, poor fitting, household items not being used (stored away in cabinets and pantry) Holiday decorations, just way too many, so just kept my favorites. Jewelry making supplies and craft stuff, I got plenty of use out of these items and I am ready to move on I even helped my husband with wardrobe decluttering! And Finally, Paper clutter ( this was the most satisfying!) I donated everything and I feel good about it as it’s part of recycling. It helps to think that someone else will discover a treasure in one of these items. Thank you for your help and inspiration Vera, I do feel lighter!

What a great video, Vera. Powerful yet gentle. The "to do" list is a huge one for me. Sometimes I feel like a prisoner of this. I like your approach and will try it and wanted to ask how you store away all the other nattering "to dos" that don't make it onto a list on any given day? Another thing I've started doing, tied to "to dos" (the incomplete or unaddressed ones) to help myself sleep better is to spend a few minutes in the evening writing down incomplete or unresolved things -- plus (even more valuable for me) I write a heading I call "On My Mind" and jot down something that is on my mind and may rear its head to disturb my sleep -- like something I really need to handle the next day or perhaps a conversation I need to have with someone or something I really need to make a decision on. That has really worked for me! Thanks again Vera. Greetings from Seattle.
@SimpleHappyZen
@SimpleHappyZen Жыл бұрын
Hi!! Yes, writing things like that down before going to sleep can be very helpful :) Also, about your question, I believe that just writing the most important things down, I make sure they usually get done during the day, but all the other small 'nagging' ones usually also kind of get done if I don't put any pressure on them, just by going through my day. Things just kind of 'get done' without me really stressing about it. But if they don't get done, I'm fine with it too because I know they're not the most important ones, and I know they'll get done in the next couple of days. And if I have too much on my plate, I usually just ask my partner to do a couple of the extra ones :)

So many good and inspiring points, thank you Vera!🥰 I really love the metaphore about the garden😊 It reminds me of the story about the two wolves: there is a battle between two wolves inside you - one is kind and full of love and will do anything to protect you and keep you safe, the other one is mean and harsh and will do anything to tear you down and hurt you. Which wolf will win the battle you might ask? The one you choose to feed. It blew my mind when I heard it and I like to share that story with my students😊🐺❤ We are so much more powerful than we can imagine!!🌷

It's the Holy Spirit ( Jesus ) vs. the evil one Satan. Jesus is our all powerful Creator and when we remember that, the devil hates it. We just can't forget that our power is in and through God. Then the devil never wins ❤❤❤❤

Through all the highs and few lows I've experienced this month, I realize that mindfulness is something I've been struggling with a lot, but that changes now. I know that meditation has been a great resource for me, so this is one thing I plan to implement more often as well as yoga.

I feel like the de cluttering tips helped me especially the MIT the most important thing. I tend to get so overwhelmed by it all that I don’t do anything. My MIT will be shredding receipts and statements. I will put on a timer for fifteen minutes and that will help. Thank you!❤

🍵your videos are very good at distilling information. Ive relabeled my To Do list to the Could Do list so thank you. I have been actively working to not multitask. That helps tremendously. It gets more difficult as you get older or maybe we just get sick of multitasking.

🍵🍵🍵I would say intuitive exercise. I used to do a lot of weight training and although I liked the physical results it always tired me out so I had to modify my fitness routines. I also do a short to do list now. It was always too long and even if I managed to finish ten things I always focused on what I never got around to. Like you I let my space tell if something is needed instead of just going out to shop and I also do frequent declutters. Its amazing the amount of things that you come across that you still have not used even after several declutters.

Re breaks at 4:48, Dan Jones Hypnosis says the brain goes through intensity/trough cycles of approx 90 minutes, and during the troughts you want to let the mind wander. When it appears to be doing nothing and you're not aware of your surroundings, the brain is consolidating learning and memories and preparing for another period of intensity. You didn't say what the people who didn't use their phones during breaks were doing, but they may have been doing something closer to that wandering, which thus explains why they performed better.

🍵Yes please to the video. Thanks. I gave up on having a to do list for a few reasons. What I didnt finish on my list I tried to do the next day but, if it still didnt get done I somehow felt like a failure. Plus i have a mother who had her own schedule for the day and heaven help whoever was in the crossfire if something didnt get done. So now I just go with the flow and if something "blows up" or whatevver I take it in stride unless it keeps happening month after month.
