Love it! There’s been great studies that show kids with less toys actually have more playtime engaging with their toys, more creative play. Dawn the Minimal Mom has the links to those. My 5 granddaughters parents have a similar set up at their home. At my apartment they have a wooden castle, a felt farm set from IKEA, some baby dolls with clothes and a wooden crib made by their great grandfather for their mum, and play food and dishes to “cook”, play grocery shopping etc.

Thanks so much for sharing. It's great to see what other families do in regards to toys for kids. I have 3 kids between 3 and 7, one boy, two girls. I try to keep all the toys they have open-ended. It can be challenging because their interests and abilities vary. I would love to pair it down to a similar amount displayed here. We have a box of fidgets, playfood, magnet tiles, other magnetic toys, wooden blocks, wooden train set, stuffies, barbies, legos, duplos, dolls house, stationary and art supplies, drs kit, tea set. Plus more randomness. My 5 year old has the most things as she loves to collect stuff. I often struggle to balance between setting limits for her things and leaning in to her interests. I do often find her things spread across the house. My eldest would be happy to just keep the legos. But storing legos comes with its own challenges. 😅

I'm also from Brisbane where Bluey is made. My kids and I love that show.

Love this video, as always! We have the Bluey house and Gabbie’s dollhouse as well for our almost 7 year old. My other one is 14 so she’s no longer interested in toys. We usually gift clothes, books, etc for holidays and birthdays to her.

I think people need to mind their own business on how much you should or shouldn’t have for your children. Looks like they have some good toys to keep them busy. ❤😊

Our kid’s toy collection is more than double that and it is too much to manage. 😂 We will be giving half split between the grandparents house. And our Lego bin (from my husband’s childhood and nephew’s collection combined) is almost as big as that. Our kid could easily get away with the same amount of bins. The most played with items are magnatiles, legos, bluey/Peppa play house things, and truck/car play set. Things like cooking and tool bench play sets are played with but only once he’s bored with the other items. And those things can easily be replaced with things from around the house. I found that out after we had bought them. 😂

We have a similar toy set up. We used the same bins until yesterday I switched toys to bins with lids so they can't dump them all out at once.

Enjoyed the video! Trying to minimize our household inventory as well. I am curious, do you have a separate area for educational items such as puzzles, Play-Doh, blocks? For me its hard to down size these types of items and also keep them separate from the toy boxes and bins.

We have a cabinet under our school work that has all of our games. Since filming this video we have also added Magna Tiles. I typically just set a physical boundary around these things. We can get a new board game as long as there is room in the cabinet, otherwise we have to get rid of something.

@@lindsaysimplified Thanks for the reply! Great tip! Our homeschool stuff is one of the hardest areas to keep decluttered. 🙃🥴

Thanks for sharing! I think every household with kids could benefit from intentionalism with toys 😊 Just in case you’re looking for minimal toy ideas for birthdays and whatnot, I can recommend magnetic tiles (like magnatiles) to build with, the possibilities are endless and it takes up very little space when cleaned up.

what do you do about family gifting to your kids? i have three kids only two are toy age anymore 3 and 6 girls both have birthdays the week before christmas and they have grandparents and great grandparents and aunts etc who gift gifts for all occasions and then we get way to much stuff i like to keep minimal and less plastic character things now becuase its ussually a stage they go through then dont like it anymore what i have been doing is letting them play with it for whille then donate when not interested but it would be easier if they went minimal in the first place with gifting but i dont want to tell them what they can and cant get for there grandkids either! but i also dont want them wasting there money etc ...

We try to set boundaries as far as others buying our kids exorbitant amounts of gifts (we also try to recommend what to get them). After the gifts are received we will go through all the toys and they decide what to keep and what to get rid of.

maybe you only get them a toy each, if you usually bright loads yourself?

Another bluey fan! Which age plays with it the most?
@lindsaysimplified8 ай бұрын
I would say my 2 year old and 8 year old play with it the most. But my six year old doesn’t prefer any specific toy and usually just goes along with what everyone else is playing with. 😂

Do you own outdoor/backpack particular toys?

We have some sand toys, but honestly very little outdoor toys because we live in an apartment.
