Just ordered your book. Need to downsize and love your videos. Can't wait till I get your book. Wished that I had known about this while I was raising my 5 sons and couldn't figure out how to keep our 2100 sqare foot home clean and picked up. It was inventory control problems. That and nurturing all the kids in the neighborhood who's moms didn't welcome their friends into their superperfect homes. Thirteen grandkids later and I am working on simplifying my house so I can enjoy them being here.

100% agree that less inventory makes it easier to clean. If you have to spend a half hour picking up before you can sweep or vacuum it decreases your likelihood of getting started significantly. A lot of what I used to consider cleaning was actually just tidying up. You've been a real Godsend in my life. Thanks so much for your gentle guidance and encouragement. It's made a huge difference to me. ❤

I am a homeschooling mother of 7 children, ages 13 down to 3. Until I found you, and Cas from Clutterbug, I felt completely hopeless in ever truly managing my house. I was embarrassed every time someone came to our door, cleaning for company started a week prior, and my laundry room theoretically had a floor, but I hadn't personally seen it in years. Your videos are an answer to unspoken prayers. Within a month I have completely turned my house around. I still have some work to do and ordered your workbook to help keep me on track, but our house finally feels like a warm and inviting home instead of the chaotic mess it has been. Thank you for this ministry. Thank you for being real, for being honest and for helping me give my family the home they deserve.

I love how down-to-earth you are! And I love seeing tiny messes in your home, like crumbs in your microwave! Haha. My house is currently a disaster, I have way too much inventory, no doubt about it! 3 kids and the youngest is 8 months…toys and clothes are my biggest obstacles. You are so motivating and I can’t wait to start decluttering. I have to take advantage of this emotional detachment I am feeling towards my things, and push on to feel that reward of a peaceful home. PS…thank you for wearing non-matching socks, too. Makes me feel better about myself 🤣

Put the comforter in the sunshine to dry. That works well to “bleach” stained diapers. It should do the same for a white comforter. My daughter discovered that trick for diapers when she accidentally left them on the line too long and they got super white and stain free.

@alison2984
@alison2984 2 жыл бұрын
Terrible advice... the sun doesn't bleach things it hides the stains as soon as you put it on a long hot wash all the stains will come back up It's very dangerous to do this to reusable nappys/dipers so if you have stains on them it means you haven't washed them long enough, the water wasn't hot enough (40 minimum ideally on a 60 degree's wash) with enough bio detergent and stain remover And if there still stained after the clean cloth nappy recommended... 1 hr pre wash and 2 hr main wash then they need to be bleached sanitised in the washing machine to sanitize them then you need to review your wash routine cos it isn't affective enough If you don't wash nappys correctly you can give your baby rashes and ammonia burns from the urine

Hi. Love your content ! I removed rust from carpets without a trace. Peroxide is a bleach. Recommend adding a quarter cup of peroxide to a few drops of dish detergent and scrubbing with a toothbrush. Tip: the mixture loses its oxygen cleaning power if left out for hours and cannot be stored. Small, as needed batches are key and most powerful. You got this! You are MORE than a conqueror! 😇

I spent our last snow weekend cleaning the oven and watched KZbin hacks to clean between the glass. Open the warmer/storage drawer and put something up the gap to clean. Rubber band them on whatever you are using. I tried ruler, paint stick, and fly swatter (not strong enough). Nothing goes high enough that can also get up between glass. My oven doesnt have a full bottom opening..there are 2 or 3 dividers. Can't angle a meter stick...still on the hunt for something more than a foot/less than a meter that will work!

I find it really interesting to see how people in different households and different countries make their bed, as in what actually goes *on* the bed. I would suggest getting a comforter cover (what I would call a duvet cover 😊) to protect the comforter. It is way easier to clean than the comforter itself: no need to go to the laundromat or dry cleaners. The comforter would still need to be washed once in a while but... I have multiple layers on my bed because I like to vary depending on how warm or cold I am. Everything is protected in duvet covers that do not get washed as often as the sheet that is closest to the body 😎 Love your channel ❤️

I added a question after my initial declutter purge that has improved things immensely for me. "How much time effort does it take to clean this item/how often does it need to be cleaned?" That idea helped me determine if the item was worth keeping/maybe could he replaced as needed with an item that was easier to maintain.

It's so true; when there's less stuff lying around, cleaning gets super easy! I cleared a lot of clutter off our kitchen counters and started putting dirty dishes directly into the dishwasher, and now it feels like the kitchen almost keeps itself clean! I used to vacuum only when company was coming, after hours of tidying, but now that I've reduced the kids toys, they're pretty quick to put away and I can vacuum every few days!
@wishingb5859

I was the same way about vacuuming and mopping. I ended up getting a Hizero to consolidate mopping and drying and picking up debris. Not sure it is better than Bissell mop vac or Tineco, but it is super quiet and there are separate cups for debris and dirty water, so the dirty water can just be poured down the sink and the debris can just be dumped into a trashbag and it turned out that I have learned that if it takes more time to clean the Bissell or the Tineco, the quiet, relatively no maintenance Hizero was right for me. I needed to get rid of mops and brooms and other things, too.

A lot of people on KZbin are uptight or unnerving in some way, and I turn their show off fairly soon. It is nice to sense real peace in this family. I nearly always watch your show all the way through if I have time. 🙂 I have adopted quite a bit of your outlook. Thank you. I have been tossing out whatever is showing wear or I don’t use most every day. Hi Dawn. My 10 year old granddaughter was here the day my workbook arrived. She immediately put it with her things to go back home with her :-). She’s working on her bedroom and as she goes through it, she’s prompting her mom to get onboard. I’ve watched all your videos and can’t begin to tell you how your methods have changed my life! It used to take so much time to pick up the house that I was out of time and energy when it was finally time to clean. Those days are gone. My home is so much more organized, decluttered and clean. Thank you!

One of the best tips I got from my 80 yr old neighbor years ago was that she worked on an entire room when she cleaned. That was a novel idea to me at the time because my mother had my sister and I work on a particular task at a time - like vacuuming the whole house or dusting everything. Which meant each room itself was never completely finished in a day. Then we would have to do this massive cleaning when company was coming or spend a whole day cleaning all the windows, etc.. And in my own home, it was easy to get distracted that way - like deciding to polish the silver or something when you were dusting...and never finish the original task because there was no schedule or routine in place that actually worked. Now my bedroom stays clean and neat much longer and I don't dread it because I know what I need to do and when I will do it and where to put everything away - daily. Which is why I find these videos so fascinating to watch how others do what they do AND why, plus tips on what has worked to make the job easier. So many things I've learned about have really been a game changer for me after years of procrastination and frustation. Thank you so much for putting in the time and effort to put this stuff out there - I rewatch so many of your videos because you are such a great motivator! The peace that passes all understanding is living in my heart and my house.

Today, I took a box of donations to Good Will. It was a variety of things I put in there a week ago. I had to remove a few things to make them fit and I tell you, I wasn't even tempted to keep them. Yes, I do feel like I forever am decreasing our inventory, and for having three kids, I still think I have the least cluttered house.of all the other mom friends I have. I am ALWAYS dropping stuff off at our donation center, and constantly throwing out big bags of junk... Once you declutter once, it truly is the onion- there is yet another layer deep you can go. And then, somehow more stuff comes in and you have to keep the same level of minimalism.

Dawn, thanks for this video and all the helpful advice. At 63, I’m still figuring my organization out. When it comes to cleaning, if I can’t bleach it it my washer or put it in the dishwasher, I’d rather not have it. If my comforter can’t be washed, I use a cover and wash that. I buy dark fabrics that don’t show stains. I store extra pillows, blankets and out of season clothes under the bed and in a cedar chest that lives in my master closet. 🥰

For rust maybe next time, since you were able to get most of the rust out this time is lemon juice and direct sunshine… I kid you not! 😃 Saturate area with fresh lemon juice or even the bottled juice… but I usually have lemons so I always use fresh. Then take outside even if cold the sunlight will do the work for you. You can also put in a sunny window. Then launder again and you are done and I have not ever noticed a fade on what I am cleaning! :)

The more we let go of the easier and easier it is becoming.
