Ah. I miss your videos. Rewatching them now. I know you have a job now and I hope life in Seattle is full for your family in the best way. But I still miss the videos. I found them calming, peaceful, helpful, and for me, entertaining ☺️. Praying you all are happy, healthy, safe, and at ease ❤️🙏.

Hi, please don’t feel like you need to explain yourself in response to the negative comments. You have futons because you like them. We have our mattress on the floor. Please keep sharing for those of us who love your lifestyle! And your kiddos are happy and blessed.

Love how you are raising kids to be responsible towards life, our earth, body and mind. Keep doing what you are doing and hope you don’t let a few comments bother or question your way of life. If anything those people have a lot to learn from you. Good vibes and wishes from one Seattle mom to another.

I grew up in Oregon and the darkness is something your body goes through every year. It affects you without really realizing it too! Supplements, moving your body, making yourself comfortable and allowing yourself to move slowly and not resisting or fighting the gloom. Move with it and you’ll figure out a groove to get you through the rough dark months. Once spring comes you will feel like a brand new person and it’s an amazing feeling!

Yeah it has been hard. Thanks for the advice:) I definitely look forward to spring!

You might want to talk to a doctor to check your vitamin D levels. You are probably getting a lot less sunshine and that could be part of the sleepiness! It’s common in Nordic countries during periods of reduced daylight!

Thanks, I agree I will look into that. I rarely ever am in the sun now

Just discovered your channel! So nice! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and such a beautiful home ❤ I lived in Seattle (1980) near the Fremont Bridge and I loved hearing the boat toots and ferry horns each day. I still adore Japanese and Scandinavian items - thank you for posting a list of where to find the items. Thank you for creating your beautiful channel - it brings me so much comfort and I feel like I've found a friend.

I like your small table and tea pot. I have similar table that I found while thrifting, I use it for doing online work and sometimes eating. I’m hoping to find a tea table for eating, but for now we eat on the floor like an indoor picnic.

I love your home. I have a Japanese futon too and I like it much better than a regular bed. I have a tatami mat I put under it. I don’t even have a bedroom. I live in a 2bed condo and gave the rooms to my 19 year old twins. They go to college and need the space to work. I don’t have much and I’m fine with just putting my clothes in the larger bedroom closet and I don’t use the dining room so that’s my area and I have a Japanese screen I use to provide myself privacy. Works for us and saves money from rent for a large place.

How are you dealing with this cold, wet summer in Seattle? Are you still enjoying the downtown neighborhood?

I love the cold! I don't really like the sun. So I actually prefer the fall and winter in Seattle to the summer.

Thank you for making this video and answering my question. I think your apartment is beautiful and I love the idea of the Japanese futon! I also meant to ask how do the kids like being vegan and where your daughter's name originated from. Thanks Jennifer.
@TheMinimalistFam2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! The kids like being vegan because they prefer the desserts. My daughter misses pizza sometimes she says. Yale’s name came from the Gossip Girl books I was reading around the time when I was first married.

I heard of Goodbye Things but never read it before. Maybe I should. The video was so calming. I woke up, made coffee and watched it 😊 I have a question. Have you read any Thich Nhat Hanh books? If not I strongly recommend them, I am currently reading Zen and The Art of Of Saving the Planet (by TNH) I am a minimalist as well, just not in the book department 😅
@TheMinimalistFam2 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) Yes I have read a few Thich Nhat Hanh books. I really liked The Miracle of Mindfullness and The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching:)

Because of American culture, everyone thinks if you don't have a traditional bed something wrong with you. Humans started out sleeping on the ground, then a hard surface. In indigenous countries they still sleep on the ground or hard surfaces. Vietnamese even sleep on traditional style beds with a beautiful solid finished wood sleeping surface. Arthritis is essentially non existent in those countries. Anyway, there are a lot of structural and other benefits of floor sleeping. Most fall asleep faster, wake more refreshed, wake easier, with reduced overall pain, back or other joint pain eliminated, etc. Not to mention how it's improved posture for many. People don't realize how traditional mattresses and pillows are essentially orthotics that our bodies conform to, which causes back pain and joint misalignments. As far as the kids go, the less they have, including screen time, the more creative and resourceful they are. I can remember all the stuff my kids had growing up, it was absolutely ridiculous and they lost interest so quickly, plus they never wanted to clean it all up. I so wish I had been able to be exposed to this info back then, there's so many things I'd do differently.

Hey, I’m so interested in this topic and intend to become a minimalist in the future, but can you suggest some major problems of this
@TheMinimalistFam2 жыл бұрын
I think it hard when you first start out trying to become a minimalist. It can be overwhelming at times and it is a long process, but if you keep working at it, it becomes very rewarding to not have clutter everywhere and extra time for things you enjoy without having so much cleaning/tidying to do.
