Alright, enough of you have posted comments now saying that "KZbin is social media", so I thought I'd give my take on that. I don't consider KZbin a social media platform. I don't treat it as one. Nor do I ever state that YOU have to use KZbin in your marketing. I don't view YT as social media, because most people don't come here to socialize or see what their friends are up to. They come here to be entertained or educated. It's a content platform and a search engine. Not to split hairs about what is and isn't social media, but I'm not even sure if real "social media" exists anymore. Nowadays, everything's an algorithm-run content platform. But some platforms are better, some worse, for marketing purposes. Bad platforms hide their algorithm, take away creator control and access to the audience they've earned, make them jump through hoops to get their content shown, force them into a hamster wheel, and pay them little to none of the revenue generated from their work. Better platforms help their creators succeed, pay them, and reward quality work. In my opinion, KZbin - although not without flaws - is one of the better content platforms. Because it's primarily a search engine, not a social media. Content here has a long lifespan. You get rewarded for building a body of work overtime, and you even get paid. The point of this video is that there isn't any one platform or tactic that you HAVE to use. You can totally pick and choose. And if you enjoy Instagram or TikTok and get great results there - go ahead and use them. No need to be a purist. Every platform has pros and cons, including KZbin. I'm not trying to say that you can somehow market your business without getting in front of new audiences. You have to. But social media are not the only (or even the best) way to reach new people. You don't even have to "create content" if you don't want to. I highlight plenty of other strategies in the video, including doing PR. I hope this clarifies things. 😊

I want to add my personal testimony to this philosophy. I have been a freelance creative for 11 years. At first as a photographer, then a director, and finally a small production company with my partner. In that time frame, I have experienced year-to-year growth. This year is shaping up to break another annual revenue record as we've already closed multiple six figures and it's only June. I do have social media, but among my peers, I have always been the one neglecting it. Maintaining a relatively small following count and using it for direct messaging communication. What's crazy is I've always felt crazy for neglecting our social media even though what we are doing has clearly been working for us. And it's exactly as you prescribe, focusing on genuine relationships with actual buyers of your work. Thank you for this video.

I ditched all my social media accounts two years ago, stopped watching mainstream news, freeing up the energy and focus to engage in activities and projects that make me want to jump out of bed in the morning. As a writer ,though, I still have allowed myself to get lured into the trap that I'd need any (or all) of these channels to share what I think may benefit others. Your video comes as a timely reminder that I can apply the same principles I apply to my personal life, to my work. Which, and life is not without a sense of irony, is the core of the message I'd like my work to put "out there" - to define "success" on your own terms, whichever they might be, focused on your personal preferred outcomes, and rooted in your unique, innate and natural abilities. Just a suggestion for you from one small business owner to another, you don't need social media but from my own personal perspective A site like cara can be used not for business purposes but feedback purposes I use it for constructive criticism to see where I fall flat in my art when I'm stuck on a piece. I use it as a tool as opposed to a business platform so to speak since everyone speaks art there. Not saying you need to, just something to keep in the back of your mind since it's been helpful for me.

I own a social media marketing agency here in Zurich, Switzerland. We create short form content for some of the biggest brands in Switzerland (which is a very small country). I‘m fortunate to have 15 wonderful employees. I believe you hit on an interesting idea. I also think you‘re right in terms of: Quality over quantity and focus on your work first. However, KZbin also works with an algorithm. Your video was suggested to me. IG Reels and TT work the same. If I‘m into sensational content, I will receive these. If I‘m into more calm, relaxed, no face explainer videos, I will get these too. What I‘m trying to say is: yes, you‘re right. Focus on your work first, create long form content (blogs, podcasts, public speaking, youtube videos). If you have a good set, use Social to leverage these things (snippets from your pod, public speaking and so on). Those things will also find your audience.

For now my focus is KZbin whilst trying to figure out how to market locally, as I have no clue really how to market anything, it is not a skill that comes to me naturally. This video couldn't have come at a better time! I have only used one social (any more than one would have overwhelmed me)... but, I deleted that app from my phone yesterday. The net negative was outweighing the net positive (for me personally). I kept convincing myself to stay with it, telling myself that sharing my creative work with friends and family and ultimately trying to grow a community where I could share art and writing would be worth it and that I probably couldn't do it without that kind of platform. But, I couldn't ignore its effect on my energy, mental well-being, and ultimately my time. I miss what once existed -- a refreshing platform that, for me, was a space of calm and inspiration... a place where I had the opportunity to share, view, and appreciate what I and other people around the world found beautiful and inspiring, but that has given way to what is described in your video: a space that is loud, shallow, and distracting. I feel a renewed sense of hope and optimism to know that many creators here also want to create and share in a space that is calm and authentic.

I'm searching for ways how to tackle multiple accounts for my business, for my projects, for clients business, and my dogs account 😅 Aside from organizing a whole year's calendar worth of content ~ I'm trying to find a less time consuming way to get on top of it all.

How refreshing and calming to hear your voice and marketing insights in such a fast paced space.

I wish I could like this 1000 times. I love your perspective. I've been wanting to get off social media as it takes so much time and doesn't offer anything in return. This is so helpful and a breath of fresh air in the marketing space. Thank you:)

So refreshing to hear "common sense" being spoken rather than the social media hype. I say common sense but unfortunately it seems to be not so common these days !! Many thanks 🎉

I agree with what you’re saying here 10O% ❤ I’m actually a singer/songwriter but I left FB and IG years ago. No TikTok and just use my email list and blog posts and KZbin. Life is sooo much better this way ❤❤❤❤ thank you for the awesome reminders. Just found you today and subscribed. It’s so rare to find like minded people!!

The analogy of standing on a busy street yelling along with thousands of others is so perfect. I’ve been so burnt out of Social Media. It was taking a huge toll on my mental health so I cut wayyy back both personally and professionally. However, lately I’ve had the fear that my business will never grow if I’m not constantly posting. This is so reassuring. I have actually grown more in the last year in my business, but have posted social media content less. This is because I stopped focusing on just posting and started thinking, “how can I help the people I want to work with” Word of mouth is still a really valuable tool for any business. 🎉 Great video and super excited to watch more of your stuff!

Such a good workshop, Louise! I love the highway metaphor - SO true. This is all so old-school - the way commerce has worked since ancient times! Thanks for your efforts. The more people embrace this calm approach, the more aware the whole culture will become - especially artists. And everyone needs that right now.

I’m so happy to discover you and this video. I currently work with design and social media for a company, and I’ve just been diagnosed with burnout… I am rethinking everything about my life, and trying to visualize a path where i can pursue art and other creative activities I love, as a way to build a life I actually enjoy. I was very desperate specially because of all the AI stuff that’s happening right now, but you reminded me so much of how humanity and authentic matters. Thank you so much, you calmed my heart a little ❤

Oh I am so glad to hear there IS another way! I'm so tired of Instagram and social media in general is just too noisy these days - I feel like I'm being shouted at whenever I'm on there 🙉 Thank you for this video, I'm determined to do things my way and enjoy the journey rather than trying to get rich quick!! 🌈

"The greatest force that exists is the human personality." - Goethe In the last five years I've been trying to find my way of doing business as a solopreneur. It is the first video of yours I've watched and it really talked to me. I tried a couple of times keeping an active Instagram profile, posting 20+ stories everyday, creating daily content, and it's exhausting. I have two kids now, and now trying to find a way to be able to homeschool them. I need free time and mental health. Since the end of 2023, I am developing a new business aimming in simplifying the processes the maximum I can, and calm marketing is something tha makes total sense with what I am trying to reach. New subscriber here.

I'm more of a quiet viewer who rarely comments anything on videos but after this one, I had to leave a comment. This content is precious and gives me hope that the internet can someday be a toxic-free environment. These tips are not only for marketing purposes but can be applied to the way we interact with the digital world in general. Thank you for this video.

Thank you, Louise, for being. Thank you for sharing your calm and grounding voice. I've been scattered on all sides lately, confused on what/ how to do this because everyone online is just jelling faster! faster! more! more! And that's just not me. Though I started to believe that faster and more is the only way. I began to think that I have to build an empire or nothing. And thank you for deciding to stay on youtube, I'm subscribed to your newsletter, but I'm a lazy reader - more of a listener.

Thank you so much for this video. I started out on Etsy and KZbin years ago and, particularly at this time with so many changes occurring, I totally relate to "NO algorithm between me and my audience." I have been shifting away from algorithms that rob me of my joy and create stress. Email list, my own website, etc. Thank you for putting this into words for me! This is spot on!

This was a very helpful video. I am not at the stage yet to start selling my art but I actually feel hopeful now that I will be able to. I absolutely hate social media and I really want no part of it. So knowing that I may be able to make a business for myself without it is so refreshing.

This was so, so helpful! I was burnt out after two years of running a creative business alone; I desperately needed a team to see every day and work alongside. Now that I have a team around me, this kind of sane marketing makes so much more sense. I am very excited to introduce this video and channel to my company! Thank you for making this invaluable resource :)

Hobby doesn’t need to become business. I love this. I’m NOT ready to switch my mindset to the client point of view. I just want to create! I feel like I got trapped into thinking that I have to post every single drawing and painting I make. Why do I do that? Why I feel like I have to sell? I truly believe life will put me in a place when it’s correct time for business to start but for now even though we need money this is not the way to get it.

Thank you for this video. I am so sick and tired of social media! I agree, KZbin isn't social media. I would rather make content here and have my content stay forever. It doesn't disappear after a day or a week. Plus, I don't have to spend everyday posting reels or photos. I prefer the longer format of KZbin. I still haven't given up social media completely, maybe someday.
