Thanks for being the only source I've found to validate what I'd started to suspect myself. I found your videos after the company I order contact lenses from sent me a trial pair of a different brand of lenses than I usually use. The RX I've had for over 3 decades (!!!) is a -6.5 but their trial pair of lenses was only available in a -5.0. I tried the -5.0 and even though they were 1.5 diopters weaker than my usual rx I was surprised that I could see fine. But the biggie was that I did not need cheater reading glasses for close-up work, anymore. (That was huge since I'm a web developer and on the computer a lot.) I tried asking around to see if it was just the fact that the lenses were HD that I could finally see distance and also close-up now. Could not find answers even though I suspected that all this time my rx has been too strong. Your videos and website are the only thing that I found that supported that theory. Tried popping in the stronger rx after wearing the weaker one almost a month and definitely seems too strong....blurry. Now ordering several brands in the weaker -5.0 to see how that goes. If I could inch that down another 1.5 diopters to a -3.5 in the future that would be so awesome. All this time I've hated the fact that my eyes were so terrible that I was practically blind and needing such strong correction. Even if I don't get perfect vision in the end if I could just not be too blind to function w/o lenses I'd be so much happier. Honestly, I live on the west coast and sometimes worried that if I have my lenses out at night and we have a big earthquake and I need to get out fast I'll be too blind w/o lenses to save myself. I know that may sound hilarious to some but I believe it's a valid concern.

Just wanted to let you know that the weaker -5.0 lenses in the same brand I was wearing in a -6.5 before (for decades!) is WORKING WELL! I'm so happy and will let my eyes adjust a bit but already looking forward to getting a small order of -3.5 to try, especially for close up work. I am not expecting perfection but if I can manage to get my rx down to -3.5 or even (fingers crossed) -2.0 it would be the best present ever for my 60th next Sept! Already I wake up every morning feeling tickled that I'm doing better with weaker lenses. And NO READING GLASSES! YoooHoooo!

My active focus only comes when I blink and goes away every time I blink. What can I do about that?
@novelacollection6 жыл бұрын
I was having headaches with my old prescription glasses, so I went to the eye dr as usual and got a new pair and I could see for miles literally. Then I found your site and bought some cheap glasses in lower strengths. My new glasses from the eye dr is -5.0 -2.75 w astigmatism correction. When I checked my eyes with my home eye chart no glasses, then low power then docs glasses I found I can see 20/20 with -3.5 -1.75 w astigmatism correction. My differentials are -3.0 -1.25 no astigmatism correction for desk computer work. Otherwise I don’t wear glasses at all unless I’m driving or working. So basically the doc overcorrected my eyes to read the smallest line on the chart 20/16 totally unnecessary for me to just drive. Thanks for your work keep it up, you’ve opened my eyes to the possibilities.

*FUNNY STORY!* *Went to the dentist a few weeks ago and she asked me if I wanted a tissue mid treatment . I said yes and went for the box . I obviously had removed my glasses .* Description : *The tissue box was " transparent " , it was a little further away from my arms distance and attached to the dental chair setup , like away from my body .* *Note : THIS WAS AN EVIL TISSUE BOX . OR A BOX THAT WAS KEPT THERE PURPOSELY TO MAKE FUN OF US MYOPICS :P , because the tissue was not hanging out of the box . So you practically could not pull the tissues easily.* *Now because of the technically hilarious arrangement of the box , I ( while sitting on the chair ) raised my upper body , raised my arm and while mumbling to myself , tried to locate the almost invisible tissues. Found it at the first attempt 😁👍 yayy THANK YOU GOD !* *Now that I had managed to find the box , twice or thrice my hand moved on the outer surface of it , unable to find the tissue box hole . Amazing .* *Finally my hand went magically into the tissue box hole and without thinking twice I GRABBED 7-8 TISSUES AT ONCE , REMOVED MY HAND FROM THERE AND CALLED IT MY BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT EVER .* During this scene I slightly said to her smilingly in a lower toned voice " Can't see where the box is......." *So embarrassing yet so funny! :p* *BTW WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT PEOPLE WITH HIGH MYOPIA CANNOT SEE CLEARLY AFTER A FEW FEET ?* They act as if they have seen something extraordinary ..... I can relate to anyone who says they have got high power and are practically blind without glasses .

Here is my little stupid story . I have -6.5 and -5 power ( I know it's A Lot , let's not discuss that here ) . At the optometrist , they would make me try different powered lenses and simultaneously ask me which one makes me see the ' chart ' clearly . So I mostly went for the lens that made me see *' crystal clear '* aka the higher power lens and came out of their office all sad and tensed because my power just kept on increasing at every visit . *But* sometimes the optometrist would ask *if a lens with lower power makes me see okay* and he kind of wanted me to go home with a lower power of lens ( such a sweet person ! ) .*And I would think ' what is he trying to do exactly ? If I choose a lower power then I won't see crystal clear ..... that might hamper my vision further . This can cause disastrous changes to my vision . This person seems confused .* So I went for the better vision-more power lens . But during my teenage years once I was so sad visiting the doctor again ( because of the fear of getting higher power ) , that I chose *a lens with a little lower power that was little , very very very very little different from the crystal clear vision . I don't remember what happened later on , it was long ago .* After that , on almost all visits , I went for a lens that made me see ' clearly ' the last line of the chart . Not going for a crystal clear vision . *But eventually with time my vision got stable and I never gave a thought about ' improving vision ' , because I thought this is something irreversible and this cannot happen , only a surgery can fix it , and I am NEVER going for a surgery , EVER . PERIOD .* Here I am happy to know such a thing exists 😁👍 Would definitely go for a slightly low power lens this time 💜 God Bless You 💜

Since then, when I read or use my phone without gasses, I started to use active focus, while seeing your video, and can almost balance out my worst eye(L) to "catch up" at times with my right eye in those 1 or 2 cm when trying to focus. Until I found you channel, I was always scared of forcing my eyes to focus because, as a child I remember asking my doctor if I should read without glasses and him telling me not to. Thank you for your dedication in helping others understand what miopia is and how to actively reverse it!

Jake Steiner, I have been reading from the blog and subscribed to the 7 day email. Yesterday I went trail walking and running and put on -3.75 and -4.75 contacts, instead of my full prescription ones and was sad to realise that I can see just fine with those and that my "full prescription" is most certainly higher than needed to be for 20/20. That outdoors time yesterday was very emotionally intense thinking on how I got stuck in the system, on the fact that I already have a prescription at home for quarter diopter higher 4.25 for my right eye from 2 weeks ago (before I found your programme), was advised but never really considered getting LASIK because the thought of it scared but glad I took the time to research and get freaked out by it and glad I found this method and can't wait to learn more about my eyes as time goes on and as I hopefully recover my eyesight back! Sorry for the long comment, but revealing miopia not as an illness or a defect, but as a consequence of high prescriptions causing elongated eye that started just with pseudomyopia, makes so much more sense (to me) than what I was taught to believe... And a real wake up call!

Thankyou SO much for making this video. It's really clarified my view on active focus because I didn't like the idea of committing time to keeping a distance from the screen. But implementing it as a daily habit every time I remember, is much more effective. It's kinda like the issue I have with forgetting to breathe sometimes (which sounds weird, but subconsciously its quite common for me to pause during the day with my mouth open, not focusing on proper respiration i.e. through the nose). Thanks again!

However, I find active exercise helpful because they build habit, at least in my life. I look at only far objects for straight 10 min, and after that, for hours, my eyes are constantly looking for far objects. It helps me to deactivate the "get-closer" pattern that builds near-sightedness myopia, I think.

If someone has a computer job, is a computer screen good enough to use as the primary medium of active focus? I'm only at -1.25 (I'm damn lucky that my eyes haven't gotten worse than that over the years), but I'm in college getting an IT degree, so my future job will require me to work with computers and was wondering if I could use the screens for that or if natural light is absolutely critical for vision improvement. Also, another question. Sometimes, frequently actually, I can partially close my eyes until things look perfectly clear and then open them back up fully and the clarity stays there until I blink. What is that? Is that also active focus?

Since finding your videos I've stopped viewing my phone in the dark from super close distance. I am now holding it at arms length with a light on and keep a lamp pointed at a half size Snellen on the other side of my room that I frequently look at. I also set it up so I can use my phone to control a tv screen on the other side of the room 10 feet away which I can use like a smart phone. I plan to get some full size Snellen charts as soon as possible and order from Zenni some reduced diopter glasses for both distance and near viewing right away. I need to set something up in my backyard so I can sit and view the horizon and maybe put up a laminated full size Snellen out there too.

@endmyopia6 жыл бұрын
No central vision not much can be done with stimulus - but as much as possible working on 1) close-up strain reduction, 2) using only the diopters needed for any given primary distance, and 3) stimulus (active focus) would maybe be a good idea. Along with keeping a log, to see whether you can get down as many diopters as possible.

@Ben-pk4cv2 жыл бұрын
Look at a book or screen that is far enough away that it's not quite clear. It should look almost clear. It should be just challenging enough that you can tell it isn't clear. Read for a few minutes and it should become clear. If this is too easy then move back from screen or book an inch (2-3 centimeters) and read some more and see if it becomes clear. If it doesn't work right away then try again later or the next day. It helps to work on this after being outside for 1-3 hours without using phone or close up. Why? Because your eyes are now relaxed and not strained like so many people's eyes are strained from looking at screens and reading close up and they don't even know it.

Ask whoever says you should do "swinging", whatever that is. 😅 (Don't mix random things. Avoid EM copycats trying to tell you that you need endmyopia and also their thing). Just my take since you asked.
@200citizenships96 жыл бұрын
I usually practice this with black text on white background because it’s easier to notice blur. As soon as I notice some blur, I try to focus. Blinking several times or staring and blinking once hard will make it clearer but not as clear as if it was in focus when it was closer. Is this active focus?

There is someone in the Facebook group who is improving starting from -15 and -17. It will take maybe 10 years to go from very high myopia to 20/20, however being under -10 probably sounds nice right now, then -7, and then -5. Then you're feeling great and in control and then it keeps getting better and better!!! And you will feel better in a few months because of the better new habits/ lifestyle of being outside and taking good care of those eyeballs!

Heyy jake. My eyes are like -9.75 diopters (probably less bcos I think my glasses brought me to 20/15 or smth). May I know if I took off my glasses and tried to do active focus while reading a book, does that help me to improve my eyesight?? My maximum distance I can see clear is 11 cm btw

Hello Jake .. Thank you for the video.. My 8 year old daughter has been detected with -1.25 myopia. I want to try the method recommended by you of active focus. My question is should she use the glasses while reading .. she clearly sees the prints when nearby.. will it worsen her eyesight?

Time for lots of blog reading on endmyopia.org. ;)

She shouldn't wear them, they are too strong for reading or closeup work. She should only wear the glasses when she really needs them at distance. Otherwise her eyes would get worse. I started wearing my glasses only at distance. and for closeup work i use a lower prescription. (I'm at -4.5 but my glasses for distance are -4 so I have still a little blurr challenge). Last week i started to make efforts. I can clear things up (blinking) when they are close and even when they are far away on the other side of the street for some seconds sometimes also for 1 min. Good luck!

Hey Jake, whats about close up work at the evening/night? How can I relax my cilliary muscle when there is no daylight anymore? I get lots and lots of positiv stimulus during the day, but I come home late and then I do about 2 hours of closeup work (not always on the pc, paper stuff too). Are there any other habits like taking a break every 10 minutes and just looking at stuff in your room? I really struggle with relaxing my cilliary especially at night. Looking at Street lanterns, etc. doesn't seem to work.

go outside and take a night walk or go to an open area and sit in your car and look around for about 30 min - 1 hour ...
@candace68934 жыл бұрын
the 20-20-20 rule. for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen or even closeup work in your case one should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. these allow your eyes breaks! and allows them to take a moment away from focusing on what’s directly in front of you! God bless you!

Jake, the only question I have. If you are using the correct refraction for whatever distance you are looking, is this a more is better situation with active focus or should we take small breaks if eyes feel tiredish? Mine dry out after a while active focusing, relaxing the eyes Daves way.

Now I know why I didnt understand until I put on a pr of +1 D glasses and went in the back yard for 30 min. You HAVE to active focus or will be blurry. Thats how you remember to do it lol I just dont have enough blur to remember to do it like you guys.

Can I improve astigmatism with this method?
@Olivman846 жыл бұрын
The teacher with the funny hair said 20/30 outdoors (up to 20/50) to practice active focus effectively. That means this is the visual acuity your new reduced prescription glasses for distance vision allow you to see in order to improve your distance vision with active focus habits. ie between 20/30 and 20/50. (That number is written nowhere reasonably accessible on the website full of otherwise useful information but not really pragmatically without this one number)

@esterig.9955 Жыл бұрын
Does this advice apply to those that only wear glasses for reading that started after age 50? If I go back it gets clearer. If I am up close I can't even read within a cm without my 3 readers. So they advice is just to ear then 2.5's. Is it o.k. they are not from an optometrist and I just go down with readers?
@endmyopia Жыл бұрын
If you don't make your eyes work at all for close-up focus, the lens will likely harden more - and you'll really depend on the plus glasses.
@esterig.9955 Жыл бұрын
@@endmyopia Thanks so what you are saying I am on the right track to struggle with weaker reading glasses and force my eyes to work harder. Right now I am carrying around 4 glasses from 1.5 to 3 and switching to the lowest possible as I go through different tasks in my day. Also using Dr. Ray Gottlieb's Presbyopia Reduction Chart.

Hi. What are your thoughts on NightLens ortho-k contact lenses? Ortho k claims to “gently reshape the surface of your eye while you sleep, correcting your myopia (nearsightedness). Maintain your improved vision by wearing the contacts each night. Clear daytime vision - no daytime contacts!” How is that even possible ?
@endmyopia6 жыл бұрын
It’s a stop gap and will slow myopia progression while used. Very expensive though and a lot of readers who used it reported side effects affecting their corneas. Temporarily flattening your cornea every night? Doesn’t sound brilliant and also doesn’t address the actual problem. Get away from screens, use distance vision - free and effective. 😉
