It was one of those extraordinary parliamentary moments. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
The Northern Ireland secretary admitted that the Government was intending to break international law - specifically the EU Withdrawal Agreement, which sets out how Britain and the EU would agree new rules on trade between Britain and Northern Ireland.
The Government is giving itself powers to decide on those rules unilaterally.
That decision has prompted the resignation of the Government's chief legal officer.

16/4/76 Mrs Thatcher "Britain does not break Treaties. It would be bad for Britain, bad for our relations with the rest of the world and bad for any future treaty on trade we may need to make. As Harold Macmillan said recently: “We used to stand for good faith. That is the greatest strength of our commerce overseas. And we are now being asked to tear up a Treaty into which we solemnly entered”

That's right (it seems obvious), but what about Sir Bill Cash' clause included in the signed treaty that assumes that the EU will make an unconditional offer of a free trade agreement? Take a closer look at this, I certainly intend to. Perhaps it is not just one side rewriting the agreement, and the EU must also respect UK sovereignty too.

@rodneyhenchliffe754 3 жыл бұрын
@@AaronStarbuck Yes, it will be very interesting to see what happens. I was never sold the idea that it was ever about the fish (it wasn't), more about the EU using the poor little fishies to undermine UK coastal territory in rejection of UK SOVEREIGNTY. As for "fair competition" via state aid or creating a "level playing field", seriously how can a tiny little nation compete with a bigger block on a direct or international trade front? Perhaps the EU wants simply to tie our hands with their rules to hamper the UK for leaving their precious political project. That's not the same as respecting our independence. Are we to accept this and be served that we are a vassal state? The EU has not accepted our freedom to become an independent entity from them. Political control has to be taken from these globalists in order to restore decision making more locally in the UK. Sorry for the rant!

Manifestos are at best political dream maps, do you really think that in the life of his government 50,000 extra nurses will be hired etc etc etc, has any politician ever resigned the whip because their party failed "to create jobs" as said in every manifesto? There is also pre-election video of johnson telling Northern Irish business folk how they are getting the best of both worlds, which kinda pisses all over your argument. About this "Oven Ready" analogy - if you have an oven ready meal which you wish to serve, you should really consider whether it will be palatable to those you expect to eat it. I think Boris prepared a steak pie for a vegetarian guest - and I'm pretty sure he did it deliberately. Trouble is, he's unlikely to entice any future guests - i.e. his actions will not stand the UK in good stead for future negotiations.

It’s important to have this legislation in place because the EU take 4 years to negotiate how curved a banana should be and we don’t have time to waste. Businesses need clarity and this legislation doesn’t actually damage the EU’s single market anyway. The EU has used Ireland as a pawn

No that's the UK withdrawal Act, not the withdrawal agreement. www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2020/1/section/38 It refers to the 2018 Withdrawal Act (again, UK legislation) and the application of the withdrawal (the transition period, workers rights etc). www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2018/16/crossheading/further-aspects-of-withdrawal As Brandon Lewis states, they are seeking to break international law, even if it is in a "limited way".

Traditional tory view 16/4/76 Mrs Thatcher "Britain does not break Treaties.

9:20 Keir Starmer received £50,000 donation from pro-Israel lobbyist in leadership bid. Starmer’s lack of transparency was challenged by fellow candidates. In February, Rebecca Long-Bailey published a full donor list of those who offered more than £1,500 to her campaign. Starmer, the front-runner, did not follow suit.

Yes, how dare anybody criticise saint Johnson for threatening to go back on his word and break international law. The man is, after all, beyond reproach and above any law, both domestic and international, including laws and agreements that he helped to make and based his election campaign on. Quite frankly every other MP should count it as an honour just to be in the same room as this paragon of virtue.
