Got one on order, I'm fascinated to try it next to the Marshall JMP-1 and SansAmp PSA-1! Two staples of industrial metal!
@ELEVATETHESKY

I love the Marshall JMP-1. I've had mine for a year and love it. It just has this percussive, almost metallic, violin-ish quality about it when muting notes. Also I notice it seems to get fuzzy/furry when playing chords which I love. I only have a few complaints and that is it's age (Worried one day it is going to stop working) and the size (I like to travel light when playing gigs or just going to jam with friends). I was wondering how you like your Ministry Mind Pedal and do you think it comes close to a Marshall JMP-1? Would it be worth getting to try and replace my Marshall JMP-1 or at least to replicate it for live use? Thanks
@Corvid

@@ELEVATETHESKY I'll have to get back to you on the pedal, I totally paralysed my right wrist this time last year (falling asleep on it at a music festival of all things). I appear to have made basically a full recovery by this point, by some miracle, but I've only just got my guitars/amp rig/mind/life back into the right headspace for playing guitar like I used to. Things appear to be snowballing really fast in a positive direction, so I'm not far off giving the Mind pedal a serious trial that will do it justice. Sounds mad to write out loud, but you definitely sound like the kind of guitarist who understands what it means to find yourself through an instrument... when you wake up one day and can't pick up a pen, and you get so musically out of shape that you forget how well you could play, it messes with your head for a while. I've literally spent 14 years chucking out nothing but power chords and palm muting in Drop D and C, and that's my home as a musician. Bought the exact guitar I needed, spent years finding the perfect strings, then years mastering the SansAmp PSA-1 ("master"... is if anyone is anything but a slave to that fucking beautiful machine), discovering the SansAmp GT2 a few years back, and FlyRig Paul Landers pedal, all in the pursuit of an inhumanly heavy guitar tone that above all, makes me fall in love with music all over again just by playing a few power chords. I've gone far enough down that path to become a bassist, after starting to understand for myself the exact ways in which bass underpins (or is the basis of a heavy tone). I may have a degree of nuance in other areas of music, but my guitar playing is just thug-level, tyre-kicking rhythm playing. I'm blind to level of skill I do or don't have have... all I know is that 90% of amps sound like shit, and I can't get a tone out of them that feels right. When I find amps/pedals that I like, I just go nuts with them. Now is the time when I've probably got the experience to at least demonstrate what I appreciate about certain amps for industrial metal, somehow. Honestly, I never gave the Marshall JMP-1 much of a chance... after the stupidly complex gain-staging of the SansAmp, I felt like the JMP-1 had one sound, which I wasn't all that keen on at the time. I was far less experienced in the studio at the time, and I dare say I was too stupid to appreciate it. Given that essentially the Paul Landers FlyRig is to the SansAmp PSA-1/GT2 what the Mind pedal is to the Marshall JMP-1 (an artist refined version of a niche 90's rack-mount preamp that sounds amazing in the right hands), I'm pretty sure I'm going to fall in love with the Mind pedal. I'd make an informed guess that you'll probably have similar feelings to how I view the Paul Landers FlyRig: it's both crystal clear how closely the artist has worked with the designer/design team, and very easy to understand where the pedal comes from in terms of being based heavily on the relevant rack-mount unit. The PL pedal sounds and feels super, SUPER Rammstein... on a really good day, when I'm playing at my best, I can set it up just right and play basically their entire discography pretty comfortably, compensating for most tone changes with technique alone (or a few dB +/- input gain at worst). Exactly as you'd expect really! I can only imagine the Mind pedal is going to feel incredibly narrowed down, and honed in on the Ministry Mind era tone, for the better. I'll need to brush up on playing older Ministry, I've only really smashed the more-gain-than-is-feasable-or-sane sound of Rio Grande Blood/Lies Lies Lies that sounds to me like a SansAmp PSA-1 DI into the desk. Epic rant for a pedal, but hey... like I say, the amount of fun I can have with my guitar, a fresh set of strings and a SansAmp PSA-1 is on par with any drug one can care to name... I couldn't even begin to tell you the name of a single chord, and that kinda implies whatever I'm doing has something special to it. I would add that certain drugs drastically build on the enjoyment factor exponentially, but that's probably just my ADHD brain making the most of actually having dopamine on tap to work with for a period of time. I will get back to you shortly... I may also need to purchase a Marshall JMP-1. Again.

@@Corvid All good. Thank you for your in depth and great response. I hope you have a full recovery. It is tough to have to go through any situation that can prevent or hinder playing guitar. I have tendonitis, it isn't quite as severe as your situation but sometimes I just cannot play guitar because of the pain and tension. Yeah the GT2 is amazing. Sansamp makes incredible products. Take your time and no worries if you can't get back to me with a description or comparison between the JMP-1 and Ministry Mind. No need to purchase a JMP-1 unless of course you desire to buy one again. Thank you so much for your response. I really enjoyed this interaction. Have a wonderful day.

Hey Mixbus TV, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I will be using it only for recording artists and bands. There is a project coming up that I will need to record a 5 piece band in a live studio setup. What CPU and RAM do you recommend to handle the job and or other specs I'm not aware of??? Thanks

This is not at all how Ministry sounds, but I wish they did. With few exceptions, Ministry in studio has atrocious guitar sound, like an amp signal without a guitar cab. Their last two albums had probably the lamest guitar sound on a rock record from a major band. Old records had great sound of course and live they have a pretty standard tone. What are they doing in studio in recent years (having awesome guys like Tommy Victor and Monte!) to get sound like some teenager in the early 90's going directly into his moms stereo with his metal zone pedal is anyone guess. This pedal is nothing like it. Sounds pretty good.

@@mixbustv Well, of course. And I doubt if it's any engineer's fault anyway (how it sounds on the record). It's probably Al having his way. I hope they will manage to do at least one album with great guitar sound before retiring. I love this band so much and they really improved songwriting in the last years. It's just their guitar sound kills it for me.
