Best of God’s blessings and protection as you trust in the Lord to provide for you in this time. I had to live in my Honda Odyssey for a year and a half five years ago due to suddenly losing “everything”. I’m 57 now. My health prevented me from being able to stay with friends or family and my van was my only “safe” space. Be a peace and look for those God will put in your path just when you need it. Be safe. It was only a matter of time before folks discovered these great vans! Ours has 414,000 original miles. We've simply kept up with maintenance, including changing the timing belt and water pump every 90k. We've towed a tiny trailer about 1/4 of those miles as we traveled about the country with kids, but now we're considering leaving the trailer behind and just converting the van interior to be even more compact. Thanks for the inspiration.
@windriderusa96993 жыл бұрын
Excellent build ~ THANKS! I imagined how that could work for me as I watched the vid and I have a thought on a tweak that would allow access to the sink and water from the inside of the van convenient. If you were to cut out an opening on the back wall of the kitchen behind the sink leaving a lip or frame around the cutout for stability of the back wall, for instance 2-3" above counter level for a "lip" to hold items in place and maybe 6+ inches from top and sides, that would allow a person to use the sink and water from the inside without having to go outside each time. I can see that being useful in bad weather, at night, or when needing to be stealth. The mirror could easily move to the side and Ta-Da! Just a thought from a solo female camper. But it's a great design as-is and I thank you for making and sharing the vid with us. You speak fast and get right to the point so your video is rich in information and details without dragging on and on. I appreciate that, too!

I really loved this video and the simplicity and low cost but there seems to be very little storage. Perhaps some kind of rooftop container would help but where do clothes, food, dishes,toiletries, and all the things you may need. Also heater,airflow,cooling etc. I tried to sleep in a van once but the stagnant air was terrible. I hope the owner can work out these things as this is so cool.

This is such a good build! So many great functional ideas. One thing I would maybe do is make a hatch in the rear partition above the sink and bench that you can open into the couch area to provide access to the sink and water from inside the van. It would make hand washing and refilling a water bottle easier if it were nighttime or raining. And use one of those shaving mirrors that is on a movable arm so you can angle it. Love the sink. This build is similar to mine. As for the shelves, if you have problems with the chains, might consider a fold down leg. That was my solution. The leg folds down and rests on the bumper. Can hold a lot of weight. I had concerns about debris flying forward and killing me in a crash, so my bed frame has clamps that hold it to the hard points that would normally hold the seats in place. It's anchored, but can be removed easily.
@RichardHarlos2 жыл бұрын
David wrote, _"I had concerns about debris flying forward and killing me in a crash, so my bed frame has clamps that hold it to the hard points that would normally hold the seats in place. It's anchored, but can be removed easily."_ Very smart awareness. WIth a full-length piece of plywood as a bed platform, any rear-impact that catches that plywood can turn it into a guillotine. Thanks for sharing your comment about this aspect of a build.

While not one thing in here is ideal, its completely functional and would work for a lot of people. I like it very much. The cheap addition it could easily handle is that when the back door is up, a 3-sided curtain can be attached to it to extend space, give some protection from weather and privacy when cooking and brushing teeth, and, the faucet can be changed to the spray type so that it can be pulled away from the sink and that becomes the shower. Youd need extra water but yeah. The right selection of material would let the curtain be folded up in a very tiny space or better still, leave it attached to the back door permanently and a cargo net could across the door could hold it in place.

Love it! Use the KISS. method. I would consider making some bins on the rear wall of the bedroom. I am not crazy about having to remove the sink. Maybe a shorter drain pipe. I would make a longer pop up drive tray. My last armchair critique is a paper tower rack. Very smart design. Keep it up. Again great job!

Great ideas! I'm learning as I go, I hope each build I do gets a little better.

You could use a sink that's less deep, and a flexible pipe that feeds from sink into grey water tank. I love the set up but yes, if you don't want to lift the sink that's a method that may work. You know that white plastic, ribbed, flexible piping most plumbers use nowadays? My only objection is that bioslime builds up easier vs straight pipes, however you can remove them every few months and soak in bleach.

YOU COULD ALSO HAVE THE SINK ON TOP LIKE A BOWL, THEN YOU WON'T HAVE TO REMOVE IT!!! THERE WILL BE MUCH MORE SPACE UNDERNEATH!!! AS I SAID B4, AWESOME & VERY CLEVER.

Hopefully you're not tired of hearing this yet but I really love your build. Its smart, simple, and easy to do. I feel like this is something I (with little building experience) could build fairly quick and cheap. Thank you for taking the time to show us all of the details of the build, where you got the item, and the price range.

So simple yet so brilliant!!! Just remember that at night tinted windows do not provide privacy if you turn on the light on in the inside.

Where do you store towels, sheets, bulky clothing like jackets. My husband is thinking of a roof bag/ storage . Your idea is great for the family that can only afford and/ store one vehicle for camping. And/ or for the couple who want to try some stealth camping to allow them to go on more extended trips.

HI, who else was here because of the toilet in the title? I would suggest replacing this toilet with a foilding toilet u buy them in shops for the elderly. U can then put a throw away plastic bag under it, and throw it in a bin nearby therfor no smells and no "carrying around" your pridest outputs so to speak. This build is genius and it shows what can be done on a budget and with determination. U could go into business with that idea. Thank u for sharing.

Really practical and perfect for certain applications. I really like how you listed your design requirements up front. Probably already said: the little gaps between the wood and the side of the van could be filled with some weather stripping or insulating foam. Attach with double-sided tape and you’re done. Thanks again for sharing. Great, practical, affordable, simple ideas. Very creative.

Such simple solutions. Of course, a bit of a pain that you have to fold the bed up to use the toilet, but in that small a space, it's remarkable that you can, at all. I could live in that!

Very nice concept! I found on Amazon, a magnetic and motion activated 12 inch light strip that is also charged with a usb cord. Makes for very convenient lighting solutions wherever needed.

Wow my favorite - a minimalist conversion. What's missing is an electrical system for powering a laptop for days. Solved with a 1000 kw gas generator such as the Yamaha EF1000IS and a decent high-tech battery charger and a couple of deep-discharge, sealed, lead acid batteries and an inverter for A/C. They should fit into this van with little problem. That's what I did for my minimalist Dodge Grand Caravan conversion. Thanks much for sharing and creating and uploading this video!

Love all the mod cons, the ease, and cost. I wonder about removing the front passenger seat and making that area the restroom; privacy curtains could be added I assume, or tint the front cabin windows for under $200. Then move the refrigerator to the area where the toilet was originally and possibly build out a cupboard above. Again, great use of space. I'll keep this video marked for when I get to work on my build. Thanks for the share!

Many places have laws prohibiting tinting in the front windows(so driver cannot be seen) and because it supposedly inhibits vision when driving

I was thinking the exact same thing for solo camping, if you don’t have to have a passenger seat.

I love this so much. All these van life/camper van conversions have given me an idea for how to afford travel to take my 3 kids to visit family.... traveling is so hard with 3 kids (you have to make lots of stops and hotels/eating out are not cheap)....but if we can sleep in our van, cook when we stop and make endless stops for them to get out and play...also public restrooms can be so nasty...game changer

I'm Going to say this with All Sincerity... You Simplify TF out of Van Conversion Guy... All the Fancy Stuff that Folks Do! Is Fine if you can Afford it but This... Is Life Changing! Bravo!!!
