Thank you for keeping Warhammer Old World alive, I never have time to get to community nights and have lost touch with a lot of my friends who play due to life. I used to love this hobby as a kid. I loved collecting, assembling, painting and gaming with my miniatures. What turned me off in the end, apart from the insane prices, was that every guy I played with HAD TO WIN AT ALL COSTS and could never just enjoy the 'story and the banter'. Cheats, rules lawyers, neck beards and psychos abounded.

Additionally Ash combat reformed his dwarf warriors on the turn he got flank charged by the zombies while the ghouls were still to his front, as per the Unusual situations rule on page 55 of the big rulebook a unit cannot combat reform if it's in combat on more than one side.

@1:01:50 Challenges are fought during the entirety of the combat, even if one of the challengers are killed. So for that round neither challengers can be attacked by any outside of the challenge, even if one is killed. Sorry I don't have my BRB with me as I'm at work. But I'm 99.99999% positive on that.

at 48:00 can the organ gun shoot the skelletons? i dont know the organ guns stats but: eg. if canon have range 4-48... thats means the canon cant shoot targets within 4 inches... and thats not a topic to argue about... thats fact...

The dwarve player cheated he shot his order gun first and said it was long range but he had the better shot thing and said it was 4 and up and rolled and hit 4 or thats what he said he hit 3 times and picked you and dice role of 3. And the the other orden gun was shot and he then said the it was the one with the good shot upgrade not the other that he shot he said that the other was burning shot... Sorry to point that out but it was bugging me...

Definitely something not quite right! Warhammer was always unplayably awful. No game balance, minimal strategy, most of the game is checking through rulebooks or army books. The miniatures were great and a lot of the writing / factions were cool. They got the art side of things down. And it was the 'done thing', the language we all used to speak, so people just played it (no real alternatives). But from a game design perspective, I think it was eight (?) editions of unbelievable, clunky, unbalanced shite. The new Age of Sigmar edition is possibly worse! :-O

I believe that when shooting at units behind other units, if the unit you're shooting at is 50% obscured then you are still shooting through hard cover. It dramatically would have affected turn 2 shooting and turn 3 shooting at the Black Knights because turn 2, you were shooting through the wolves (remember it's not direct LOS but if the unit is 50% obscured) and on turn 3 you were shooting through the block of warriors. If you pivoted with the organ gun properly you would see that the cannon was shooting through your own, giving the knights hard cover (it seems that way, but because you never checked it's hard to tell). Also, you randomise in fantasy, you don't assign shots when a unit is down in numbers and you have characters in it.

You're dead right about the hard cover rule for LOS through the Dire Wolves. The other bit, randomising shots, I assume you're talking about shooting at a unit with five or fewer models other than characters and champions. In this case, the shots are assigned on an even basis by the controlling player.

My adventure with Warhammer started from Undead. I had 14, and just saw box with skeletons in some shop. Had no idea about Warhammer, or playing miniatures. So I've bought them, inside found some leaflet with next clues... Then I remember booster catapult, Undead codex... And next came Space Marines! :) So Undead lost against umans without balls;]. But I had 14 years! That was something. My whole carpet was battleground - essentially I've built whole tabletop setting - hills (books under carpet), houses, trees... without knowing that I am doing correct thing! :). Oh shit, I remember this now so brightly, thanks to this clip. Can tell you one more thing. My collection had exactly 21 skeletons, and one time I am walking into my room (oh, I had chariot too, and dreamed about Nagash), and what I see? My boxer dog lays exactly on my undead army! The pain was unimaginable (for me;], dog went fine out of this, loved him too much...)

very quick and very glaring mistakes I noticed (but otherwise good video and enjoying the series). When the dwarfs charged the bat swarms you moved the forest. So you would still be in the forest and ranked units are not able to count their ranks for combat purposes. Your rear rank would have been in the forest still when you overran into the ghouls. So the bat swarm would have still been there (you got 10 on him and he had 9 wounds left.. so he would have had 1 swarm left) and the ghouls on the overrun would have had less damage on their crumble. Second glaring mistake is even though he killed the champion in the challenge, he's still considered in the challenge and unable to be targeted by attacks until the start of the next combat phase (Wight King). which would have disallowed those attacks to come in. As I said, good series, just a few simple rules mistakes :)

Challenge is counted as a separate combat and takes up the whole combat for that turn to resolve. So you can't hit the character in a challenge that turn with other units just because he killed his opponent off quickly. Also, someone already said it but you can't reform when flanked.

Loved watching this play. Remids me the old classic game "Warhammer: Dark Omen" from 90s. It was a pain to see the vampire troops constantly getting ripped apart by cannons though. I never played a tabletop warhammer game before but I think the vampire side should have split their troops and tried to get to a position that would force the cannons to risk aiming through their own troops or force them to reposition. Hounds and bats were totally wasted at the start of the game. They were the perfect troops to flank the enemy when things got out of hand. Not charging and idling for too long was a big mistake too. But I might be wrong on these thoughts since I do not know the rules of the game. Keep more battles coming, cheers!

Not correct - attacks are still done at initiative order. Unless the rider has the same initiative as the mount (which is not the case for anything other than Hexwraiths in Vampire Counts) then the mount will be unable to attack as there is no target to attack as it died before the initiative step of the mount.

I was played versus a guy who have cheated dices. It was very strange to see all time 5, on 10 dices, 5 or 6 give 5 all time, all time all time, never under 5 (five) by shots. His fall of dices was from 20 cm all time... ^^ I was asking him if i can use them dice and he said "i play warhammer from longtime more than you and no body had the privilege to put his hands on mine dices"! At 1:08:16, the zombies in that unit never got to attack. May not have made a big difference, but may have made it so one more ghoul was in combat. Probably overlooked because you were used to dwarves being the last to attack.

john Smith Yeah. I think I noticed that whenever a die was out of view, i.e. behind the house or toward the corner of the playing field, he miscalled the dice to be hits / wounds when they weren't. Additionally, very speedy in explanation. Being a newer player of the game, if I were to go against him, I'd be lost and probably go along with what he said (don't know the rules all that well).

I've never played this game but it looks awesome. Super complex rules though. I have Battle Masters by Games Workshop though. I used to play it in the 90's in High School and just dug it up again to play with some friends. It's super fun, more like a simplified version on Warhammer. I'd love to play this but it seems like it would be pricey, and I don't know if my girlfriend would be down with this money and time consuming geeky hobby.

Ash - around 16:00 you note that cavalry count as two wounds. This is only explicitly true in the wording of the Regrowth spell. Nowhere in the Vampire Counts AB (or FAQs) does it specify this, it only says that the model must be restored to full wounds (of which Black Knights have 1 on their profile, and take 1 to kill, etc...). How are you determining that it would count as two in this scenario? Also, just a nit-pick - at 41:41 the unit joined by the Wight King expands. He is on a 25mm wide base, they are on 20mm bases. The footprint cannot line up so the character is placed to the side and the unit does not expand (pg 98 BRB). 55:40 - You _cannot_ combat reform if you are engaged on two or more sides. (pg 55 BRB) 50:15 Ghouls forgot Vanhel's. 59:35 You can't attack the Wight King, he was in a challenge. 1:01:13 You are steadfast in a forest so your test would have been on unmodified leadership.

The End Times books are part of the official rule set now, even if you choose not to take anything from Tomb Kings and just have a VC army, or vice versa, they still benefit from the Undead Legions rules. Of course you can always decide with your opponent if you want to play with End Times rules or not, similar to unbound and bound in 40k.

The Nagash books are supplements. With the current power vacuum at GW, some guy at GW who was on crack thought he'd finally update the FAQs (without answering any FREQUENTLY Asked Questions) by throwing the 50% Lords rules and Lore of Undeath and Wizards rules into the amendments. Unfortunately, this seems to translate to some people as 'The End Times rules are now part of the official rules and should be added to those in the main rules book' .

My 2 cents: I believe BSB for Undead reduces wounds caused by combat res. by 1, I think that was forgotten. Also think that the wight BSB was treated as having 2 wounds whilst having 3. Indeed , no ranks for dwarfs and stubborn for the Bats (which has no particular effect)

I love collecting and painting the models but never had the chance to play them but holy shit this doens't look fun. The amount of cheese rules I watched when that dwarf player just kept rolling and rolling and rolling attack after attack in one phase looks infuriating. This game was much more fun to watch. Much less mistakes than another video I attempted to watch. The only thing to add. You can't reform out of combat, if you're base to base with a Champion or model with another stat line. So I'm not sure that reform at 1:02:10 was legal, but overall a good game!

Man, as a kid I remember seeing figures like those at a family member's place, always wanted to learn what kind of game they were for, over the years I forgot all about it until I saw Total war Warhammer. Right now I would love to play this game (or if anything just collect the figures) and read all the lore books about it, I'm a fool for fantasy lore. Just with the name was more obvious, for years I knew there was a link to the name "warhammer" but I kept ending up on everything related to 40k, so I just assumed I was remembering the wrong name and it was something else.

+Jedy Zichterman Well a grid would only make sense in a 4x4 or 5x5 game. In Warhammer you can move at any angle, so a grid wouldn't really serve any purpose for measuring when units move diagonally in reference to the grid.

What a cheat. Those runes changed 3 times so far and I'm halfway through. As someone else noted he cheated on the amount of hits on his very first shooting roll of the game. Not cool. Hope he learns from the negative feedback and becomes a better player and sportsman.

damn. You guys really need to read the rulebook at some point. A ton of non-trivial mistakes that changed the course of the game. If you're gonna play dwarfs, you should definitely give the shooting rules another read and be an expert. Most of that fight your organ guns should have been hitting on fives or sixes because of the obscured targets. Also, casualties come off evenly from both sides of a unit, and there is no 'maximize' move involved in charging. You have to perform the charge such as to maximize to the extent you can. If you can't 'close the door,' then the enemy unit closes on your unit. There is no moving of the units to 'maximize' after the 'door' is closed. Also, if you have the movement to hit a hit a unit in overrun, you move into the unit as if you had successfully made a charge.

Casualties only come off evenly from both sides of a unit when you are removing them from the front rank (i.e. only the front rank remains). Otherwise, you remove them as you please, allowing back rank models to give supporting attacks if possible, unless some are in base contact with units on flanks, rear etc.

One rule they talked about shocked me more than others, but the last time I played was about 15 years ago so that might have changed or I was not just aware of it, as I did not play the Vampire counts : Is it correct that, if he resurrects more troops than there is space on his base, the excess is discarded ?? It seems so random to me. The base is there to help move alot of troops altogether, it does not actually constitue a size limit to the troops. Am I correct or were they ? This surprised me so much.
