Good review... However it does have a faint blue LED to show that the power is on......but it's so faint that it's only visible in almost complete darkness!

I see some really noticable framedropping starting at 21:15 and to the end of the video. Is this because of a weak GPU on the MINIX?

Interested in this but bit of a technophobe, what sort of price are the firmware updates (and how often) or are they free. I've got 11mb broadband download speed or would you need fibre type speeds, can you record tv programs, if so how many hours of ultra hd would it take, Cheers

Actually, the device does have a power LED, but it is very dim. You're only able to see it in a dark environment. You say "Don't expect too many updates". Obviously you're not very familiar with Minix products. Because Minix releases updates quite regularly. Check the official Minix support forums. But you have to install the first update via SD card or through a pc before you get subsequent updates OTA.

Can the Mini X Neo be connected to the Computer in case the Mini X Neo have some bootloop issues, it will need to be reflashed with a PC.

Great review, but you forgot to show the XBMC? with that and the correct servers you can have access to all movies and TV series in the world and have no need for netflix anymore. :-)

***** i did do a quick movietest in xbmc. But i pay for netflix because its really cheap and i can watch it on all devices including my consoles too and dont need to fuck around with streaming :)

***** If you use Kodi tv [new name for xbmc] it runs on any android device, including your phone and most computer OS platforms as well [mac linux and pc] With this device you can live stream from any wifi enabled device, or just connect it to the internet and directly to your TV. The only lag I have ever experienced is internet provider related, With a reasonable provider speed, you will be more than impressed.

Mike111Hunt I am pretty sure xbmc supports pass through of them so don't see why it wouldn't on the android as well. I know it does on pc version but I can't positively say it does on it. Don't have one yet but this is the one I am planning on getting.

Kodi will play xmbc addon also I do believe if you change ur vpn to America u will get the yanks version which is apparently better than UK version

Most movies for me work great same as the reviewer, however I DO get picture stutter on maybe 5% of movies that my 4 year old AC-Ryan plays perfectly and yes that's over gig lan not wifi. The movie "Asylum" stutters for example at the beginning where there is lots of scrolling. I suspect downloading other formats it might be ok, however I don't want to have to worry about being picky where I never had to with my last media player. Minix is releasing new firmware soon that sounds promising to improve on the issue, but this device is not perfect by any stretch, prob still worth buying but don't expect perfection.

This box was really slowing down my internet speed, could not find the reason why for a long time until I moved the box around 1 meter away from my internet router, problem solved, hits top speed now.

Yeah lets use the most generic terms to describe the Amlogic S812H SoC, cause ARM9r4 which could just about be anything, and nothing the Plus version means that you can use 802.11ac... If you have no use for 802.11ac you can save a few buck and get the "H" version. Sans the "Plus"... The "H" version just means that such a Box can do HEVC @ 2160p (IN HARDWARE!) Where the non- "H" Ones will only do HVEC @ a Maximum of 720p, but ONLY IN SOFTWARE!

You talked a lot about the M1 remote. It is a piece of CRAP. Yes, it's RF and works in any direction that you point it, but you have to charge it every TWO DAYS. Also, sometimes it just stops working, so you have to plug it in, then unplug it to 'wake it up'. And sometimes it just won't respond for 5-10 seconds. The standard remote is much, much better if you're just using XBMC. I haven't changed the batteries for 6 months so far.

A android tablet battery usage only lasts for a few hours. Just charge it, I mean go outside you wont be sitting near your tv and watching all day. Its not crapnif it works fine, craps when it actually is a cheep item. Plug it in when you dont want to watch anymore. Tv addict^^^
