I test 3 props for both my trolling motors on my Intex mariner 4 boat in a head to head battle measuring speed vs current draw, the results are mind blowing to say the least... if you would like to try these props for yourself, here are the links....
10X5m-LH prop www.apcprop.com/product/10x5m...
10X4p-LHprop
www.apcprop.com/product/10x4p...
IMPORTANT NOTE!!! if you go to APC's website.... there are two different 10X5 props, make sure you select and order the one in the link.... 10X5m-LH, it is very important so that you may get the correct prop... I'm sorry for any confusion.
If you're handy with a drill, I recommend these props also to try on your trolling motor, just use a 3/8 drill bit to open up the hub where the shaft goes in, and get a small file to carve a spot for the sheer pin!!!
9X4.5 prop for 30lb trolling motors - amzn.to/464W5ar ONLY $2.80 !!!
10X4.5 prop for 40lb to 55lb motor - amzn.to/44P0Unf ONLY $3.16 !!!
NOTE: I haven't tried these particular props, but I have drilled and filed others alike and they worked fine for me!!! I hold no responsibility for any damage or injury that may be caused by altering your trolling motor.
Hey everyone, if your interested, here are some links to the same gear I use!!! hope it helps
Intex mariner 4 boat - amzn.to/3PkQvKG
Intex motor mount - amzn.to/3EwGQLS
12v lifepo4 battery - amzn.to/3Ez7NhW
Scotty rod mount - amzn.to/4633Iyi

Hi Codyakfishing, I wanted to give you, my updates. I followed your suggestion and went to Home Depot with my prop. Found the correct bolt to simulate the prop shaft and started digging through the washers. Found a M10 that fit perfectly. It took 4 of them to stack to the threads. I just went out yesterday and wow! The prop is faster, but I what I found most impressive was the quiet and smooth ride. Totally different from both the stock prop and the 3 blade Kipewa. I trolled nonstop for 7 hours and usually the battery would be at 70 something percent when I put it on charge. It was at 88 percent, what an incredible savings. I use my motor on the rental boats at my home lake. The boat is a 15-foot, flat bottom, fiberglass Carlonia Skift that weighs over 500 pounds. Thanks again for all your very timely support! You mentioned on a video you live in Colorado. I am from Colorado, a small town in Delta County on the Western Slope. Let for the Navy in 1984 and never made it back home. I do go back for hunting trips when I can. Take care and GOD bless!

@@codyakfishing8856 First, great video and thanks for making this!! Amazing that you got this kind of performance in a floppy inflatable boat. The APC "Marine" props are the ones you want. They're made for kayak motors, which are just trolling motors. Also the APC props are *probably* better made than the trolling motor props because I *believe* they have a higher glass content and use longer glass fibers, and so should be much stronger than their size/thinness would suggest.

I think this is one of the best side by side comparison videos ever put out. I hve both pitch blades for my motors also and I didn't have my meter hooked up but i noticed that the 5 pitch was. Little too much chop for the 30lb. I'll have to try it on my 55lb. I did just mount my 80# 24v to the front of my kayak so I'm very excited to see how that proforms. I did about the same for my kayak, with a 40# MinnKota, but I used a 12 x 5 APC prop, because it was beefier, but I cut one inch off each tip, leaving a square end shape. Worked great, but I didn't use it on my kayak much, and use it on my 14-foot aluminum v-bow flats skiff, which weighs around 300 pounds. I use it just as a trolling motor in the marshes, and I've never come back to the ramp with less than 12 volts in my 35-amp-hour battery. Prop cleans itself with a short reverse burst. Good video. I flew R/C airplanes back in the 80s. I remember when APC props came along and they were a big improvement over the Master Airscrew and Top Flight Props we all used at the time. The only downside was that they were pretty ugly while sitting on the ground.(Beautiful airplane with an ugly prop) You could spend a lot of time getting a prop balanced but the APC props were usually spot on balance wise. I would put a 10x4 prop on my plane if I was doing a climb and glide competition. A 10x4 prop would make a plane climb like a rocket. For general flying I would us a 10x6 or a 10x7 if I wanted a bit more speed. All of that said I have always known that APC made a high quality product. I had NO IDEA they made trolling motor props. I will be picking up a few of these for my MinnKota Powerdrive v2 55lb thrust trolling motor. Thanks for sharing this! On another note you might try and put an aluminum or for simplicity sake a plastic snap on spinner (nose cone) on the prop and see if improves the performance any. More "aerodynamic"...

Nice test! The believe the difference would be even larger with a different boat. Your boat probably has a really low hull speed, and thus most of the energy goes into making waves. Standard trolling motor props are designed to have high torque and to cut weeds, so it explains why they're not very efficient.

Ok, been motorizing kayaks for 10 years, tried the APC props on one of my trolling motors. Yes you do get some improvement but the downside is in trying to reverse in wind and/or currents. The APC prop fails to provide adequate reversing power in those conditions vs a standard prop and can wind up putting one in a poor situation so I have gone back to using the prop that comes with the motor. The best saving for weight and amp usage I have found is by using a brushless trolling motor.

I'm sure the kota sacrifices speed for weedless running. Mine came with what they call their power prop and I switched to the weedless wedge. It's actually a slightly bigger prop, appears to be even larger surface area, lower pitch and more rake. It just goes through some of the thickest stuff without fouling. I'm sure that's why they aren't the most efficient design. I doubt that APC would do well in weeds due to 0 rake. Rake may not be the right term, whatever describes the long swept leading edge of the prop.

@timlong1462 10 ай бұрын
@@codyakfishing8856 oh yeah, I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything. Just stating what I believe the reason for their huge inefficiency is. If I lived somewhere I wasn't weed whacking with my trolling motor I would totally put one of these on. I can't even use the power prop though, it fouls up so much. Also it's on a fishing boat foot control motor. I have a gas outboard so speed is less important to me. It was interesting when I switched from the power to the weedless I dropped almost 1 mph max speed though. One of these days I'll put my amp clamp on and see which one is worse, Id guess the weedless even though it's slower, just a lot more surface area/drag the motor has to fight. Hydrodynamics and propellers are so interesting. I would never guess a propeller as skinny as these would actually produce more thrust with less power consumption.

came across this video, and thought i would watch, most comments are with kayaks, ad boats like your showing. what do you think these would do for like a 18' bass boat? front trolling motor and rear stationary trolling motor for lakes my area that are all electric? do you think my boat will be too heavy? just curious? thanks

Honestly I'm not sure, when I get some more time off work I'm going to put some of these props to the test on a 28' pontoon boat with a 112lb thrust Minn Kota ultrex, I'll try to get that video out as soon as possible, but for only 6$ I'd say it's worth a shot, I'd get the 10X5 and 10X8 props and test them both out, just be sure to measure the current draw so you don't overload the system

@@codyakfishing8856 hey, i know its ben a while, but finally got the boat out and got to try your props, started with the 10x8, and it was awesome, moved my 18' bass boat along great. quite amazed , thanks for the info and have to see how it does on a windy day, it was pretty calm. but didn't seem to use much battery either, used it almost 5-6 hours

I'm pretty sure these props are no where near as durable as the original, just have to use extra caution when using them. But at 6$ a piece I'd order 3 or 4 of them and keep spares

Is the stock prop designed more for quiet over speed?? 🤷‍♂️

I think the stock prop is designed for pushing heavy weight slowly, that's just my guess, I don't hear anything different between the two...
