Two years later this motor is going strong kzbin.infoUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

Great review. Both companies make good motors. I bought two Minn kotas in the last 4 years. Two Riptide ipilot 55s. They both died with a "motor stowed" message on the remote. Fried boards from low voltage I guess. Months of repairs and downtime. I just bought a 24 V Motorguide Xi5 and I have 3 new Ionic lithium batteries now, so I am hoping to have a better experience. Wish me luck. PS - I'm a total "gadget guy" but to me the Ulterra auto-deploy and trim introduces a lot of variables for failure that are probably not worth the gains. I think the old adage "keep it simple" might be a good adage when it comes to trolling motors........

Hi Chris, hope all is well mate……Your comment around the Minn Kota holding position better than the Motor Guide is due to the puck you didn’t like….this magnetic compass measures true heading and improves the boats fixed positioning. Thanks for your comparisons in using both systems…..tight lines bro.
@SaltyStrikes3 жыл бұрын
… correct, it’s a great addition to the performance but I think they could have integrated into the system better. Seems like they didn’t think it through or took the easy way out. Both have there pros and cons. Just sharing so hopefully it will be helpful Good, Bad and Ugly 😁👍.

Will a high-thrust transom motor jack knife a 14-foot aluminum boat even if set to the slowest speed, I need the higher trust for my river fishing, but I also need a slow speed for casting and trolling in lakes I just don't want to go airborne.

Good video! One question. Are the shaft lengths the same on both the 72" motors? Its 41' from my bow to the water so I am trying to determine if 72" is long enough? I want to go with the motor guide for price and availability. Any help would be great.! Thanks
@SaltyStrikes2 жыл бұрын
… you want your motor at least 12” under the water line so 41 + 12 = 53, so anything over 53” should work. Just make sure your measuring from mounted position not the rub rail. Good rule of thumb is always get a little more than you think you need.
