The is my second in a short series of videos I shot of the railroads in the twin cites area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the first was 1988 and 1989. This video is from 1990 and was shot on the same Sony 8mm video camera. Again, most of the video was shot at Dayton's Bluff in St. Paul. Dayton's Bluff was THE place to go to see trains, there was just no way to beat the constant action there, and at that time it was very accessible.
What you see in the 90s is that Soo Line has changed from the red and white (actually very light gray) to a candy apple red scheme. Also, with the new color comes Soo Lines first North American cab locomotives. Personally I always like the red and white but the red did add one more scheme to see.
Burlington Norther also made another change, gone were the diagonal stripes which they replaced with solid white panels. The white panels took some work before they figured out the best way to put in on the North American cabs (wide cab). The first white panel scheme on the wide cabs was a little weird, with a vertical white panel flanking a green center.
