Minnesota Native Plants - Canada Columbine (Aquilegia Canadensis). Our first video regarding Minnesota Native Plants.
The Canada Columbine, or Wild Columbine is a perfect plant for many areas (forest, prairie, etc.). Watch the video to learn more about this beautiful native!
While I talk about this plant being a native to Minnesota, it may be perfect for any garden around the entire Upper Midwest and lower Canada.

A gorgeous native plant that is one of the first spring bloomers in Minnesota. This is a great plant to add to your native planting or butterfly garden.

You'll see it on the edges of woods and prairies. If you've got an area for native plantings, this is a great addition. Beautiful for several weeks in May/June. I'll try to save a bunch of seeds and share some with you! Cheers Sarah!

Love the new playlist! Hardly any homestead channels talk about native plants, that I’ve noticed, anyway.

I think we all need to have a native planting on our homestead. This is a great plant to have as part of a Minnesota (or Upper Midwest) garden. You'll get butterflies and hummingbirds. Watch for more native plant videos through the summer. Cheers!

We've got so many beautiful native plants that I just want to share them. I'm hoping more in the Upper Midwest will grow natives and benefit the butterflies (and they just look good!). Cheers Tammy!

Also.... Native North American tribes used various parts of columbine in herbal remedies for ailments such as headache, sore throat, fever, rash caused by poison ivy, stomatitis, kidney and urinary problems, and heart problems. Native American men also rubbed crushed seeds on their hands as a love charm. ❤

It’s a fave and there are many colours. Here’s a challenge for you Rich, try growing it from seed, super tiny seeds. Fun idea for a series.

That's how I got these two. Grew them from seed last year. I'm going to collect seeds and plant more this year and next. I used to have a native garden that was 20 feet x 200 feet. It was beautiful and changed every year. I'm looking to add native plantings around our property over time. There will be lots of videos. I bet this plant looks great up by you. Cheers Jen!!

As the plants mature, I'll be collecting seeds. I'll try to get some to you. They just need to be frozen over winter so they will sprout. Most of the native plants want to be frozen to sprout. We'll talk over the winter!

We grew up calling them honeysuckle plants. We used to pick the flowers and chew off the 4 little bulbs in the ends and they are sweet. Not sure if it is poisonous or not if you eat a lot of them so do it at your own risk!!!!!

Wow! Never heard that. Is there a Honeysuckle plant that looks similar?! I don't want people popping this bloom in their mouth, if it's not good for them?! I'm not putting anything in my mouth!! Cheers!
