It’s actually quite expensive. I worked school food service for 17 years, left in 2019. I think the biggest expense was fresh fruit. We were feeding about 100 elementary kids for breakfast and around 40 middle school high schoolers for breakfast each day and for lunch it was around 300 elementary and 160 middle/ high school. Our weekly fsa order was between $700-$1000 then we had milk, bread, and fruit, so around $1,800 a week and we also got commodities from the usda to add to the food. Commodities were canned foods, frozen foods and dry goods supplied to us from the usda

The justification of this just stupid. Just think about it even if people can afford it or not they simply are going to take advantage of something perceived to be free. Even rich people will take advantage of free stuff how do you think they got rich.

No children should ever be hungry. I grow up in CA in the 90's as a kid. I remember i eat free and my parent never had to pay a dime for my meal because the state of CA has a large budget so they can afford it

STOP putting a price on the LIFE OF A CHILD. EVERY CHILD should have lunch....and NOT receive shame because it's unaffordable to them. VALUE OF LIFE NEEDS TO RETURN FULL FOLD. 🙏💖
