When hung vertically, the abstract shape also looks like an M. Brilliant!

I like the new MN state flag. Not enough to call it "perfect", but I _DO_ like that the left side is basically an oversimplified outline map of the state.

At first I wasn’t a huge fan of the design of the new flag. I liked the left side of it but I thought there was too much light blue on the right. It has grown on me though. It looks great when you see it on the flagpole waving. It pops out Speaking of birds shooting laser eyes, you should do a video about the New Zealand laser eyed kiwi flag. I love how it almost became the country’s official flag but then it got adopted by one of their military groups. They even brought it with them when they helped out Ukraine

Honestly I also wasn’t a fan at first but I really like it now, especially since I’ve got an edited version with a sorta variation of the progress flag (the pride one) in the blue section, and it lends itself well to stuff like that, makes me happy to have it

The light blue on almost every new Minnesota state flag I've seen hanging outdoors has already faded to white. They all look like they are just dark blue and white.

I hope someone told you the story of the Virginia Battle Flag! Sounds like it isn't on display, but the story is so good. Also, Minnesota is so underrated. I'm glad you saw all of the beauty of cities!

Great to see you visit Minnesota - I remember like it was yesterday we were chatting about this whole movement to change our flag. I’m curious if Tyler or Jenae Michaletz were at the convention? They were the one who actually come up with the final design(s) based on Andrew Prekker’s original. I was a bit surprised to hear him take overt credit for the final in this video… but I suppose colloquially he is more known for it. Regardless I think proper attribution is important.

Yes they were there and presented. They, the committee chair, and the sponsoring politician all credit Andrew. He was there for the whole conference and was constantly recognized by all members as the designer since he worked with them for the entire process.

The final revisions of the Minnesota state flag were collaboratively developed by a design team consisting of Luis Fitch, Tyler and Jenae Michaletz, Ted Kaye, and myself, in consultation with Andrew Prekker. At the NAVA 58 conference, we all gave a group presentation about the entire design process, from Andrew's original drafts to the final design and its construction sheet and Pantone shades. We emphasised that the entire group deserves credit, as each of us had crucial contributions during the joint design sessions. Although I was the first to conceive the specific design variation that is now the state flag of Minnesota using Inkscape, it would not have turned out this way without Andrew's base design and our group discussions. At 07:03, you can see our presentation. On the left are Tyler and Jenae presenting their section. On the right are Andrew (blue tie), me (wearing a mask) and Ted (far end). We all wore light blue to match the new flag's design. Luis had other obligations but attended the panel discussion the day before. At 07:11, you can see an alternative shot where I'm presenting my section, with the screen showing the two variants we suggested were the strongest to the commission (and they chose the one on the left!).

As you already know, Illinois is changing their flag as well. I will tell you I am a little bit nervous after watching your video, because the committee in Illinois is being consulted by the committee from Minnesota. I submitted a flag design, that is historical to Illinois and I redesigned it. Like the gentleman who did the snowflake flag, I have a lot of confidence that I will make the top 10. And not giving my hopes up that my design is selected.

Great video. I was a big fan of the new flag when revealed. It stands out from other flags which I enjoy. Most of my social circle preferred the tricolor version, but I disagreed. Tricolor flags are iconic, but tricolor flags to me have always felt like an old world owned design. Using them in the US I feel like would be phoning it in. I'm happy to see someone elsethat likes the new design instead of complaining about how "by the books" it felt. As a secondary item, I do like how the flag lends itself well to riffs on the design like the pride flag, since it can maintain its distinctiveness while putting in other designs in the light blue section.

While I appreciate the North Star flag and would have preferred it over our previous flag, I have to admit I'm glad it didn't become the state flag. I really like what became our new flag. The North Star flag could be a really nice city flag. But I guess Duluth already took the general concept of it.

I don't really like the Maryland flag, reminds me too much of uk flags, i thought it would be nice to incorporate a black eyed susan in the design, to reference the black eyed susan award. Ive even seen flags with the same colors, but have crab designs in the red and white parts as well as black eyed susans in the black and yellow part.

I saw that they got rid of it because of offensive imagery (and lack of recognizability). The imagery in question is a Native American woman riding a horse. Is that really offensive? The Native Americans were here before us (hence the name). It's not like the Washington Redskins logo. That was a harmful stereotype / racist caricature. I feel like this is just another example of, not necisarily assimilation, but a sort ot "white washing" or similar terms. To get rid of the Native Americans in culture is to get rid of their history.
@FlagsForGood
@FlagsForGood Күн бұрын
The Native American in that seal was “riding away” as the white settler plowed the land. It was specifically designed to represent the indigenous people being driven out by colonizers.
