Hopefully they teach the kids about how natives savagely murdered women and children during this time .

The 1862 Sioux uprising is a classic example of this debate. Some see only there side of this. There was brutality and murder on both sides. Yet....it’s been very polarized. And you never hear the side of those murdered by Little Crow...or all the settlers and immigrants butchered. Instead they focus on those who got hung. There’s a lot to this story. Problem is....everyone wants a .30 second..Wikipedia quick explanation of an event. Often seen as to simplified...or biased. Due to political correctness.

My paternal grandmother's folks helped defeat the Sioux, in the Battles of New Ulm (1862). Thanks so much, and very well said.

Minnesota is terrible when it comes to remembering History. The 1st Minnesota at Gettysburg is all but forgotten. It’s not even taught. Minnesota sucks! It’s leadership...it’s media....has become totally biased. History is re told to push agendas! Like this. And the Lakota were not original from this area. And the Indians were fighting...killing...wiping each other out. Long before the white man showed up. Rivalry was used by both sides during the French Indian wars. Red River Indians. Algonquin woodland Indians. And those great mound builders of even before that. They....are unknown. And there fate....unknown. A lot was happening here.....1000 years ago. But now.....all we have are the mounds...a few clay coil pots...and some bones. Lost. No written language....No cave art.....just the mounds are left.

To constantly judge the past...using modern sensibilities. Is a waste of emotion. It’s out of context. The killing of all the buffalo was a waste. However....in the context of the Times. It was a working strategy to defeat the Indians. Right or Wrong doesn’t matter.......except when trying to make a moral Decision about it......two hundred years later. Indians too......get caught up in the illusion. All Indians were peaceful and had a better way.........is also a fake emotion. Heavily taught. Most lived a simple primitive life. Barely out of the Stone Age. Disease and malnutrition....drinking and stealing. After all there humans.....just as prone to Vice...there as Good...Bad...and Ugly in Indian history as the settlers........but they will simply never acknowledge this. The Sioux uprising! Was Little Crow justified? Yes.....and No. you must understand there reasons. Was the hanging of 40 justified? Yes......and No. You must understand there reasons.....both sides. Not just one. WWII.....same thing. You must try...try..to understand. And that means....understanding WWI. And so forth. There’s always two sides..and....maybe more.

Was it moral to intern women, children, babies, elderly and sick on the island by the Fort for an entire winter, not caring about the death toll due to the more frigid winters back 160 years ago? Was it moral for the federal government to tell Europeans that there was empty land for farms here in Minnesota?
