I have a powerdrive V1 and am considering upgrading to either powerdrive V2 c ipilot or the terrova control board so I can utilize a foot pedal. Did you need to purchase a Terrova or Powerdrive V2 coil cord?
@omieyouknowme2 ай бұрын
@@judeatkinson1049 you have to upgrade the main board in the base unit regardless if doing a v2 ipilot or terrova. The board in the base for terrova is quiet a bit more expensive which allows foot pedal. Oh the head unit for terrova is also more expensive. You honestly are better off buying a new terrova by time you add up parts. Hence I just did v2 board and head unit. I don't use foot pedal enough to justify that cost

I have a old v1 that’s giving me problems. Won’t turn in either direction with the foot control, but will turn on its own with auto pilot. On/off and speed controls engage on the foot pedal. Tore everything apart and didn’t see any obvious issues. I’m assuming the pedal is bad, despite taking that apart and not seeing any signs of wear. Any words of wisdom?
@omieyouknowme3 ай бұрын
@@plapnab if it turns with autopilot but not foot control i would start with the plug from foot pedal. Make sure those contacts are clean. Use a small screw driver and close the pins on female plug so it make better contact with foot pedal. If that does not help trace the wires from plug to foot pedal switch, see if there is a break. I'll try to find diagram for old connector. Old foot pedals are expensive

Hey Omie, I know this was about 2 years ago but I'm hoping you can help. I'm trying to convert a Minn Kota Powerdrive V1 (2002) to have I-Pilot. I can get the controller head(top part), the control board(For V2) and the remote assembly separately for much cheaper and faster than buying the kit from anywhere I've seen, including Northland Marine. My question is, can I get away with using the lower part of the head from my 2002. It appears to be the same, from what I can find online and from what I've seen in your video, but I'm not sure. Mine is the V1 with no AutoPilot, so nothing in the head besides the controller. If you see this and can give me some help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

The head unit is replaced with the ipilot upgrade, the wires from it are capped.off. If you don't have autopilot already it doesn't matter the new head unit on top of shaft is a standalone plus the new board in the base. There will be a single cable from head unit that goes to the new main board in the base that.amd the two power wires. Hope that helps. Btw the new ipilot units have a gen2 gps which is more stable.

@omieyouknowme3 жыл бұрын
The on off switch in the head would be for autopilot, the compass board. If it has a real on off switch with speed control someone changed things on it, the speed controller sits in the base of unit not head.

Can you upgrade a 12 volt to a 24 volt , I have a 55 lb thrust ,and would like to upgrade to a 70 lb 24 volt
@omieyouknowme3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, the motor would.take the 24v but it would burn out pretty quick. The physical size of the motor determines the voltage requirements. The 24/36v motors are 3.5" and 4" in diameter and have heavier amateurs inside, they swing a much much bigger propeller. I don't recommend it.

The new pwm controller for 12v have come a long way and is on par with older 24v motors though.

I have an autopilot with a steering problem will not steer left will this upgrade fix that
@omieyouknowme3 жыл бұрын
Need to test your steering motor first. There is black and white wire that goes to steer motor, apply 9-12v + to white and negative not black. Then switch does the steering motor work. If no then there is issue with steering motor not controller. If motor steers both directions, if yes then yes, but this is the expensive fix. You can replace the controll head for a lot less if you stay with autopilot co pilot. The blue tooth pilot though is a game changer in how these motors work, I love the anchor and record the trolling track and repeat it.

Can you upgrade power drive V2 12 volt - 24 volt
@omieyouknowme3 жыл бұрын
The 12v motors are 3" housing, but it is still a motor. 24/36 motors are 3 1/2 and 4" housing for motor but will run on 12v controller as well. they won't deliver the same thrust because the amps needed for the bigger prop is more than the wires and controller can handle. So Technically yes, as the 12v motor itself doesn't care if you give it 12v or 24v it's about watts. 12v x 4 amps is 48watts or if you use 24v x 2 amps is 48watts. Your battery lasts longer with 24v as you will more volts but half amps. If you put in 24v controller it would work, you would be using half the power you use currently in 12v. With that said 12v parts are cheaper to run generally.
