Brian absolutely does NOT talk to much. Everything he says is educational. There are many other guitar teachers on line that talk too much. Brian isn't one of them. One of the best on line teachers. We are fortunate to have him.

I would say your talking/explaining is 95% of the value of your videos! That‘s the cool stuff which we learn from. The song behind it is also nice but only an additional value to the important content. Thank you for your work and keep it coming (I am a member since 5 or 6 yrs)

Anyone can learn licks but understanding why they work & how you can use them take your skills to the next level. Keep on talking Brian!

I have known a couple of musicians who could play your ears off but they were disappointed that they didn't understand the inner workings of why (theory). One of them actually called himself a 'parrot' because he played what he heard but couldn't come up with anything original - he doesn't know why it works. If you don't want to learn anything new, you probably don't belong here.

I looked all through the comments section and couldn't find where it was that anyone said that you do too much talking. I don't think so, unless I'm having a bad day. In which case I would keep it to myself. I have to admit that this is one of the best lessons I've seen on KZbin. This lesson could add a splash of color to a great many compositions that I think any song writer would appreciate. You're creating upper extensions, which is an invaluable tool to viewing the guitar from a more pianoistic perspective. I like the way you explained that. I've never heard it illustrated that way before. It makes it very simplistic.

Great song Brian. As a full subscriber, I come here to learn about what’s going on in the music. I spent too much of my playing life just learning songs from tab but not understanding the theory or why behind it. Don’t change your lesson style as it’s fantastic. Since joining Active Melody early on this year my playing has improved dramatically. Thank you

Great lesson to drive this point home. You have briefly mention in several other lessons how this relationship between a 6th chord then slide down a whole step to a 9th chord works and how it is depended on the under lining chord, but this lesson really drives the point home. Because of you, I use this relationship frequently and understand why!!

Guitar to me was very complex to learn....until i started watching you. The not only breaking it down note for note....thats only half of it....explaining where those notes come from is the KEY to learning..i greatly enjoy your teaching style, progressions, note choices, AND EXPLINATIONS!! Keep up the great lesson, dont you dare change a thing.

The b9 shit is pretty cool. The c# denotes the 9. Since the A is there which is the dominant 7th of B major.

You should go over the theory as to why it’s an A9. Must people watching do not understand that the b note denotes the 9. And it’s an A9 because you have gone past the note cycle since you have a dominant 7 (the g note)

good vid-dont talk, use telepathy...
@robnic524 ай бұрын
I agree, it is a great video, telepathy might be useful, learn every advanced music theory and application all at once. But then Brian the guitar/music teacher would have to charge a few thousand dollars each transmission. Same as you'd pay for a three year course at a top guitar academy like MIT but revealed instantly and unforgettably. 😊 Somehow it doesn't seem half so much fun as learning the theory and techniques we learn by repeating a few times then exploring these ideas. In that long process we eventually find our own voice on the guitar. 👍
@robnic524 ай бұрын
Actually that's an odd thing, how a whole year group of MIT guitar students who all attended the same lessons can graduate after three or four years and all sound completely different. Blindfolded I reckon we could identify various famous players Eric Clapton from Peter Green, Frampton from Prince, Vai or Hendrix.
