Thank you Sandra for making these hard times in which we are going to be quarantined bearable. We have waiting time but with your help and classes it is almost a treat. thanks from Spain

All the best for you, my friend. Our government just announced a partial lockdown of Austria. And no more flights to and from Spain, Italy, Frsnce, USA etc. I went to the supermarket today and all the shelves were empty. From Monday on week have a lockdown. It's crazy! I plan on doing more videos to make up for the teaching sbd gig losses. So good for my viewers 😊

I learned so much from your diminished over dominants and Dorian Trick packages, that I had to purchase the II-V-1 starter pack. I love it. Your lessons are awesome. I am "backfilling" my music theory knowledge, and the theory that you add to your lessons are right on time, so to speak. A lick is one thing, but to understand why it works, makes it a tool in your toolbelt. Peace

Yes, we have a partial lickdown here. Schools, unus, kindergardens closed. Travel ban to Italy, no events exceeding 100 people. It's a disaster. Fortunato we have free health care (except me, lol. As a self employed I have 20% deductible, but it's not really much. We have realistic prices here 😊)

Hey Sandra, it's Christmas Eve 2020 during the pandemic, so instead of hanging with family, I'm checking out jazz guitar videos. I'm just 10 minutes into the video, but the first lick is amazing. I kind of do the same as you, thinking m7b5 as minor 7 up a minor third and using diminished on altered dominant starting on 3, 5, 7 or b9 and using chromaticism in between some of the tones. My lines are okay, but yours are better. Great lesson. Thanks and Merry Christmas from Cincinnati, OH, USA!

Sometimes if you want to have a old-fashioned french style lick like Django. It's good to resolve in Xm6 chord. Not mention to hold that major 6 chord tone. Just to spice up things.

These are fine but I'm a little surprised you didn't use the harmonic minor. Especially for people who grasp a 2-5-1 in major, it's the closest analog to being able to use a single scale and you get many of the same things (e.g., diminished arpeggio). It was used by all the bebop guys (Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, etc.). The thing that I love about it is that it yields some very interesting melodies, plus you have the two major triads (5 and 5+) adjacent to each other. Perhaps you already did this in an earlier video.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman4 жыл бұрын
You're absolutly correct about the Harmonic Minor Scale. I tend to teach people the altered Scale first, bc it's universally usable. I'm already planning a harmonic minor scale tutorial. And I'll be doing a version of this video using the HM in the future. Maybe I should have used the HM on this one already, but I thought, since a lot of my subscribers already have the altered Scale Licks from the major 2 5 1 tutorial, it would be easier. And the alt scale is absolutly valid too, therefore I did it that way. Well, more videos on the way 😊

C minor is a Relative minor key of Eb major, not a Parallel minor key. Just in case guys are looking to understand the theory bit correctly. Great videos, though. Cheers!
@GuitarversumSandraSherman3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I know that, but I always confuse it with the German term. We call it Mollparallele, which translates to parallel minor.

I started playing when I was ten. Made a lot of progress until age 17. Life got in the way now I want to catapult my learning. I am 62. What is the best way to make up the years. I need to learn the modes? Can I just train my ears?
@GuitarversumSandraSherman4 жыл бұрын
Moses ate just a fancy word for targeting Chord tones while playing in the correct scale. That's the key to good jazz playing. Don't forget the phrasing (of course I have a video lesson on that 😊), which is let duper important, or you won't sound authentic.
@donlessnau39834 жыл бұрын
I must be missing something or I'm really far behind in understanding theory because I find this confusing. Around 1:30, she says she's in EbM with a D Locrian. But then she says since it's a minor 2-5-1, you need the "parellel" minor of EbM and she says that's Cm???? Cm is the "relative" minor of EbM, no? What am I missing? D half-diminished is the 2 of Cm but Cm is NOT the "parellel" minor of EbM. Unless I'm not smart enough yet. ??? Confusing.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman4 жыл бұрын
Oh, maybe I mixed things up. We use the word parallel in German, we don't differentiate. But I meant the relative minor to Eb, which is Cm. You got it all right! 😊
@donlessnau39834 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Thanks a lot. That helps a lot. Danke Ihnen sehr.
@donlessnau39834 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman BTW. If you only use "parallel" in the German, how does someone know if you're referring to the parallel minor of a key or the relative minor? Here, we say Cm is the parallel minor of CM. And Am is the relative. What do say over there?
