I was in those same dorms 39 years ago! Barracks 207 next to the NCO Club.91st Civil Engineers service call desk. Cross trained from Roads & Grounds in '72. The trick to surviving Minot was to get to know the people in town. The base people were snobs, jerks, cliquish assholes. Thetownsfolk were wonderful people. I still have friends there.

Good old Minot. I won't miss sliding on black ice, won't miss snow drifts, won't miss car door handle freezing and breaking off, won't miss engine locking up in -40 degree weather, won't miss waiting for the snow plows to come through the parking lot, won't miss being a walker while towing aircraft to the dock with blistering winds, won't miss seeing cars stuck in the middle of 83, won't miss frostbite.

@veedub87 The parking lot looked familiar. I was a missile cop in Minot from 1974 - 1978... The Air Force in Minot was much different back then... In the spring you could walk around the barracks and find small marijuana plants growing. It came from all the heads throwing their seeds out the windows or their stashes when the dogs came through... Yea it was much different back then...

Yep. You can see the electrical outlet receptacles in the parking lot, and if you look close enough, you can also see some of the cars plugged in.

Right on... I think she's the only person that's ever identified the song/cd I was playing here.

Did you guys know many maintainers? Hell, I probably saw you guys a million times, but never had much time to hang out with you. Maintainers end up being pretty tight with SET/CAT though, cause we always worked together. The ART guys were always cool once they recognized our trip number. If we were out late at night on site and the cook was cooking, they'd always offer to bring food out for us from the LCF. Now that was cool shit.

@DSCOBLUE I never paid much attention to dorm numbers. All I know is that I filmed this in the 5th Trans dorm, which was right next to Vallin Hall, the missile wing dorm.

we used to have the saying "if it ain't raining', we ain't training'"...I guess with all that snow your's would be "if it ain't snowin', we ain't goin'"

Heh heh... screw the club. That's why I moved into town not long after I filmed this.

I was a B-52 Crew Chief there from 11/89 to 4/93 and lived in the dorm in the upper right from your point of view. At that time it was one of the most recently renovated dorms. It was pretty sweet. I wish I could find more video of the God awful winters up there. People just can't appreciate how miserable that kind of cold is. I grew up in northeastern Indiana, but thanks to Minot, I live on the gulf coast now. I can't stand the cold!

Well I'll be damned. Look what I came across. My old dorm, my old parking lot, and my old buddy Rick!
