The ultimate pocket gadget. I'm a fan of the last meterless models, had several in the 80's, very tempting with today's films. Looks like film, developing, and scanning are available.

You forgot to mention the Minox Auto-Trike, released in 1961. It was a 3 wheel camera mount accessory for taking pictures in motion at speeds up to 57 MPH. It featured, storage for various lenses, a cupholder, AM radio, integrated headlights for nighttime picture taking at speed, amphibious conversion kit, a crash helmet, and an integrated diesel powered flash bulb port, which eliminated the need for carrying spare batteries.

I'd also heard the pronunciation you used in the first video. Brand name pronunciations are often regional and frequently established by the company's regional marketing. You'd be surprised how many different pronunciations I've heard for Nikon and Hyundai.

Oh, I actually own that tabletop tripod. Passed down from my grandfather, to my father, to me. It doesn't have the cable release though, comes with a very old leather scabbard though. It's really handy and I keep it in my camera bag, though for some reason it always makes airport pull me out of line each time I bring it somewhere.

Minox also made a film slitter that cut two strips of minox width film from the center unperforated portion of 35mm, and it was a nice bit of kit too, using sheer-cutter wheels instead of knife slitters like most folks use today.

Dad had a Nikon SLR. What I've just seen in this is the equivalent to, er, approx. the Sony recording Walkman (TOTL ver.) or maybe even their mini-disc line. One thing I've always always known: If your can screw in a shutter cable it is a serious camera. That prevents "unrequested vibration". Even serious digital cam makers couldn't seem to figure that out for... kind of a long while. But I guess we have BT triggers now. Regardless, that camera and system are rad. My kind of tooling.

Question or three: I have the first replicating 3D printer (2008 RepRap "Darwin"), as in the very first one to self-replicate. Do I tidy it up? Do I leave it in the storage crate? How would I find an institution that would look after it? I'm in New Zealand where the few museums here are highly focused on indigenous culture and not much else.
@zeugundso2 күн бұрын
Have you already talked to Adrian Bowyer? The ur-Darwin resides in the London science museum, maybe they have contacts that make sense? Would be great for that display to show both machines side by side like that iconic "parent" -> "child" photo :) In any case I would not preemptivly tidy anything up...
@VikOlliver2 күн бұрын
@@zeugundso I'm the other guy in the photo. Adrian donated one to the London Science Museum but it got taken away, we don't know where. I donated the first replicated part (actually the second one as the design used a pair, so the other original is preserved with me).

It is hard to believe that the Kodak disc camera had an even smaller film format. I still think that the zenith of miniature cameras was the Pentax 110, even so producing photographs worthy of enlargement with that is not a given. I find it hard to believe anyone ever took any decent pictures with a minox.
@peterrenn634116 сағат бұрын
The Pentax 110 was a gorgeous thing: an SLR that size with full auto exposure is a marvel. The key to decent Minox prints is to get a proper enlarging lens, i.e. a short focal length and optimised for the tiny format. I have a Minolta 30mm which is superb as it gets the best out of the excellent Minox lens.

You should thoroughly confuse your viewers and pronounce it the "French" way as "minoh". Also, I'm puzzled why you use the UK pronounciation (and spelling) for "aluminum." I thought Canadians said it the same way as Americans.
