MinProXT 2021: Mineral Predictive Mapping - From Intuition to Quantitative 3D Modelling (26.10.2021)

On 12th/13th and 26th/27th October 2021, the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), in co-operation with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and the Centre for Exploration Targeting, University of Western Australia, conducted the Mineral Prospectivity and Exploration Targeting (MinProXT 2021) webinar series.
MinProXT 2021 featured invited talks by eminent scientists from the mineral exploration industry, research organizations and academic institutions. The primary objective of the webinar was to present ideas on the varied topics related to mineral prospectivity analyses and exploration targeting. The webinar aimed to be a confluence point to foster open discussions and interaction between the predictive mapping research experts, the public sector organization executives, and the experienced professionals from the mining and mineral exploration industry.
On 26th October 2021, Dr Andreas Barth from Beak Consultants Gmbh talked about "Mineral Predictive Mapping - From Intuition to Quantitative Hybrid 3D Modelling". In the presentation, the audience is guided through the long history of mineral predictive mapping from the earliest recorded sources through the empirical knowledge of the famous Agricola, the (manual) metallogenic approach of the 20th century, the wide use of simple GIS technologies at the end of the 20ies century, and finally, to the machine learning algorithms at the beginning of the 21st century.
