MAAAAN ! That scene still hits me hard Bro. That pause & reflection then "I'm not gonna win this one, am I Chief ? No Sir." Writers and actors pulled it altogether on this one.

I mean look at the Story line....You see that the man was MORE soldier than SCIENTIST......he saw what no one else did or "refused" to see....labeled a warmonger & insane basically. Only to be proven RIGHT...He bet his life on it, his crew backed that bet with theirs. What was it Miles said before to a Cardassion ? "I don't hate you, I hate what you made me become."

Absolutely the best episode Maxwell was a warrior hardened by the atrocities of the enemy. The Chief has to come to grips with PTSD he has lived with for years in a very very short time I live his quote “I consider my self lucky, to have served with the two finest Captains in Starfleet”

I love the use of this song because it's also symbolic of the lone warrior going into battle... and being defeated. And the only one praising him being his own harp.
@dwsimmy25997 жыл бұрын
I don't think the song is about "the only one praising him being his own harp". I think that it's about the Minstrel Boy pledging his undying loyalty to his homeland (the "Land of Song"), and saying that even if all the world is against her, she'll always have his sword to defend her and his harp to "praise thee", "thee" being the "Land of Song" from the first line of the verse, not himself. The Minstrel is defeated, but he refuses to submit, preferring to die and to shatter his own harp than to live to see his home fall. You're definitely right about the first part though; Maxwell sees himself the same way the minstrel boy in the song did; as the last person willing to do what was necessary to defend his home.

Giving what happened in Star Trek Deep Space Nine later I wouldn't be surprised if Maxwell joined the Marquis or was given command of a Starfleet vessel considering he was a experienced Captain. May be the Admirals and Captains jailed were recruited by section 31 as Starfleet were definitely shorthanded as they lost at least 100 + ships and crew during the Dominion War.

This scene shows how good Star Trek:The Next Generation was at its best in a wonderful episode .Colm Meaney and Bob Gunton who played Captain Maxwell are both excellent actors and it was nice to see Rosalind Chao again as Keiko O'Brien.

@tek5126 жыл бұрын
It's a pity, really. Maxwell was right the whole time. ... And it did eventually come to bite the Federation in the ass. The Cardassian Empire had nowhere near the power necessary to fight off the Federation in a prolonged war, either. Taking them down there would've made it so the Dominion had a much harder time later on.

Question, I know that O'Brian is a CPO, but why does he have the 2 pips of a LT? And I would love to have CPO O'Brian as my NCO if I was in starfleet.
@killersalmon43595 жыл бұрын
I think ST: TNG was a little bit confused about ranks, especially O'Brien's rank. He was initially a helmsman or navigator (which would have made him an officer), and then it seemed that he was still an officer and that people calling him "Chief" was because of his job title, rather than rank, and then somewhere along the line, they decided that he should be an NCO. Up until then, I don't think non-commissioned ranks were even portrayed in any ST. I do remember in either ST V, in either the movie or novelization, when someone is introduced to all of the Enterprise crew, she quips, "Don't you have any enlisted ranks?!?!" or something like that.
